Prompt(Tumblr): Slick Tiles is seriously great, I love it :) I bet an ill/well timed slip with a diving brick aimed at Sanji's head by Nami would get some rescuing going - anon
A/N: This was actually one of the first prompts I got for this story, but I saved it cause I wanted it to the be the stepping stone to something greater :) Also, there was like a million different prompts for Zoro to rescue Sanji, so ya'll are getting your wish. But diving bricks are dangerous and Nami wouldn't be that unprofessional; so have little delinquent kids!
Zoro watched quietly as Sanji was diligently making his laps in the pool, completely unperturbed by the surrounding racket created by all the other pool goers. Each perfect arc of his arm coming out of the water was precise and calculated, before it was brought around by powerful shoulders and his cupped hand would slice through the water. The motion would then be repeated with his other arm in a never ending cycle as the man made his way back and forth across the length of the Grand Line Pool.
The blond had a new pair of baby blue goggles that he'd been using since Zoro had so unfortunately broken his old pair. And that incident had since been forgotten as Sanji remained oblivious and Zoro refused to even go near the subject again in fear of messing it up again. Though that didn't stop him from fussing over the inevitable in his every waking moment.
After learning his lesson with Ace, he wasn't going to hesitate with asking the blond out. But finding the proper opportunity to just simply tell the man how he felt had turned out to be a lot harder than he had previously thought. They still ran into each other regularly, but Zoro hardly found any of those few minute conversations to be adequate to fumbling out a dating proposal. Though he was getting really tempted to just go bug the man during work, haul his across that counter by the scruff of his shirt into a kiss, and then ask the dumbshit out.
Watching two kids goofing around on the other side of the deck he let out a defeated sigh as he realized that simply asking someone out was a lot harder than he had first thought. Giving up on the confusing topic he watched as the two hoodlums were getting dangerously close to having to have Zoro call on them for misbehaving. They were fooling around with a diving brick – which seemed innocent enough – until it started to get tossed around and Zoro realized a moment too late that he should have called on the kids earlier.
"OI!" Leaning forward in his chair, arm already partially extended as he yelled angrily to the two boys goofing around on the other end of pool, but his cry went unheeded and even as he brought the whistle to his lips it was far too late. The brick had left the one kid's hand, sailing through the air and toward the lanes.
Almost in terrible slow motion it flew threw the air, reaching the peak in its arch before slowly beginning to glide back towards the earth. Falling with terrible accuracy down toward the lane that Sanji was currently powering through, completely unaware as his strong strokes were putting him right in harms way. Two final perfect strikes from his arms had him right under the brick as it made contact with the water.
Brick colliding heavily with Sanji, the blond was forced under the water as his laps were disturbed. For three heart stopping moments Zoro prayed that it only pegged him in the back, or maybe missed entirely and Sanji had just submerged out of shock; anything but having gotten the blond in the head. But Sanji didn't reemerge and those boys on the edge of the pool deck were looking on in horror at something under the water that Zoro couldn't quite see from the glare of the lights.
Shirt swiftly discarded in one fluid motion he was running to the water, foot landing solidly on the edge of the pool as he launched himself toward the water. A heart stopping moment when he noted the water tinged with blood before he submerged and wasted no time in swimming as hard as he could toward the unconscious body floating uselessly in the water.
Wrapping a strong arm around the blonds torso he swam hard for the surface, breaching the water as he immediately pulled Sanji up so he was floating on his back with his face out of the water. Already using his free arm to side paddle them toward the edge he could vaguely note people being ushered from the pool and Nami taking control of everyone in the commotion.
Reaching the edge of the pool he hauled the blond out, placing one hand firmly on the deck, using all of his strength to heft himself up with the one appendage as he dragged Sanji up and out of the water with the other. Getting a knee up on the deck he managed to manoeuvre Sanji onto the deck, hand carefully cradling the blond's injured head as the man continued to remain calmly unconscious.
Gently pulling his hand away from the man's head, his hand disentangled from blond locks only to find his hand covered in a water infused mixture of blood. An unprofessionally scared whine slipped past his lips as he looked back down at Sanji in slight shock. It was strangely a lot harder to remain calm when the person he was trying to save was not just some stranger but someone extremely important to him. Hands shaking for the first time ever when having to preform his job as he desperately reminded himself that head wounds bled a lot and that the blond was going to be okay!
Numbly going through the steps he had been trained through rigorously he set up preforming CPR quickly on the water-logged man. Hands wouldn't stop their trembling even as he preformed the perfectly timed compressions to the blonds chest as everything was slowly blackening around his vision in his panic. Tunnel vision getting the best of him as he ducked his head down to blow two sharp breaths into the blond before leaning back to pump his chest again.
The moments passed by like droll hours as as each compression that was insufficient to gain a response from the blond was causing Zoro to lose more of a grip on his composure. Movements becoming jerky as each round of compressions that had Sanji only remaining silent was causing a deep-seated panic to set in as Zoro felt his own breathing become uneven. Leaning down sharply he sealed his lips over the blonds and breathed out two sharp scared breaths, pulling back only to find that pale face still lax as blood was beginning to pool underneath the man's head.
