Of Eyes And Fangs

Chapter thirty six

"I'm tired Hiei-san..." Kagome mumbled sleepily while rubbing her eyes, she was having a hard time keeping them open. The fire apparition cracked a shadowed vermilion eye open in time to see the girl start slumping and yawn.

He sighed quietly and stood from his cross-legged position on the floor. He snatched the girl's collar before she could hit the wooden planks face first and effortlessly pulled her to her feet.

She stumbled on her feet, forcing her guardian to pick her up. He huffed in annoyance but adjusted his hold on the girl so that her head rested on his shoulder. He stiffened as her arms came up to wrap around his neck, but they stopped halfway through and ended up hanging limply over his shoulders.

Hiei waited for the tell-tale muttering that indicated the girl was asleep before moving. He padded in silence down a short corridor at an unhurried pace and twisted on his heel to enter Kagome's room. Once there the apparition stalked over to the futon in the corner and set the dozing child down.

The dark yōkai was surprised by how... gentle he was being, it was strange. He stopped that train of thought, catching himself covering the girl with her blankets before he even thought to. He stood quickly, on the other side of the room before another uncharacteristic act could happen on his part.

Angered at himself, Hiei stalked out of the room to go to his right up the hall.

The attachment had already formed, denying it was useless.

I can't believe the reviews the last chapter got, you guys are amazingly supportive.

Telly! Yes, thanks for that review, I try to make her seem older than she actually is because of her upbringing. I'm no mother, I don't plan to be until I'm older, but I have plenty of little cousins and experience with little brothers to choose from.
