Artemis "oh I hate you"
everyone does
Artemis POV
The sounds of heavy combat boots splattering the mud were behind us, it made the spark of fear in my heart ignite into a fiery inferno. The contraction that now plagued me, made the fiery inferno combust in a hurricane of fire. To make matters worse, I was defenseless against all of these things, there was nothing that I could do to save myself, and my life was completely in the hands of Annabeth and Zoe. I could trust Zoe with my life, but Annabeth, the one that is holding me, not so much. Especially since ever so second, Annabeth growing like a beast I don't even know.
The tree line will be our salvation but it was still a good 400 yards away from us, which doesn't seem like a long distance but the quicksand like mud made it all the longer. I watched as Annabeth's feet sunk a good 5 inches into the mud with every step, maybe she wasn't growling at all but do some weird pant thing. Never know, as I am pretty sure every inch of her human identity is gone by this point.
Zoe was ahead of us trying to make sure the way stayed clear. She looked determined for us to make it out of here; she even managed some courage as she pushed on. But that courage couldn't cover the tinges of fear that I could still see in her eyes.
Behind us, I heard Kilalon yell, "Run all you want Artemis, but I will catch you, the reincarnation will be mine" with that I heard Shades join the chase, it was clear that we weren't fast enough, Kilalon was right. We couldn't keep this up forever.
I heard some piercing noise followed with Annabeth stumbling before following to her knees, her eyes were pitch black as she grimaced in pain, her sharp teeth ground against each other as the noise continued. Zoe seemed to register that Annabeth stopped; she turned and yelled "Get moving"
Annabeth growled as she tried to get back to her feet, the mud gripped her knees and refused to make things easy "I can't, something... it feels like something is pushing me down" I glanced behind us to see the Shades had stopped as well. Something was pushing them down to their knees. Kilalon and The Demigod's looked confused for once.
A Flash lit up the dreary base, making the water logged mud reflect a gray light. When I managed to look back at the forest line, the car that Annabeth must have parked deeper in was now at the line. Zoe seeing the opportunity, rushed back. She pulled me out of Annabeth arms and into hers. I wish I could walk so that this was easier on them but the contractions were speeding up making it impossible for me to walk in these conditions
Zoe commanded "Annabeth grabbed my shoulders" for once she followed orders without any backlash, as soon as Annabeth got a grip; Zoe began to drag her while at the same time carrying me. She grunted "Gods, I can feel the energy pushing Annabeth down".
Kilalon noticed that we were getting away and yelled "Move it" The Demigods must have stopped in surprise when the Shades dropped, but they came to their senses and kept running. Except for one, the one that piloted the Helicopter that took me here. It seems anyone like the Shades is being affected by this.
The sound of combat boots against mud, made Zoe move faster. Annabeth did her best to help by trying to kick her feet to propel us forward but it didn't work. The Car smooth surface bumped into my arm as we made it but the demigods were moving in fast, only 100 yards away.
Annabeth managed to let go of Zoe and brace herself against the car door, she hissed "I wish this power would stopped, if not at least stop the noise it's creating" almost as if someone was listen the noise stopped and Annabeth visible lightened. That didn't mean she was the only one. The Shades got their feet look angrier then Zeus when he's out showed.
Annabeth yelled "Zoe get Artemis into the back" with that she opened the car's passenger door and moved the seat so Zoe could set me down. At amazing speed, the two worked in sync, get everything ready. Annabeth turned the car on just as The Demigods were only feet away with the Shades ridding their tails.
Annabeth kicked the Gas down making the car lurched forward before speeding off, running into a couple Demigods in the process. Annabeth screeched "DIE!" Reminding she still wasn't all sane in the head. Zoe looked horrified, not at Annabeth crashing into Demigods, not just the fact that she was letting Annabeth drive.
From my view of lying down in the Back seats, I saw a Shades claw bust through the passenger window, Zoe narrowly avoided its claws before grabbing a small pistol from her belt, and shooting out the Window, making the claws disappear. Zoe yelled "THOY SHALL NOT KILL I".
The Car jerked back making my head collide with the edge of the Driver side door. This made Zoe look back "MI 'lady are you alright?" Just then A contraction hit making me grunt "No!"
Annabeth howled as she seemed to avoiding hitting a tree "Estimated time of those brats popping out?" She turned the wheel sharply making my feet push against the other side of the car. A hand reached back, pressed my shoulders to the back seat, looking up I saw it was Zoe's hand. She smirked down at me "don't want thou banged up"
Finally I answered Annabeth's question "I think soon, my water has yet to break so that gives us time, not a lot" this made her do a rather childish raspberry "so not 120's that it will take to get to Mount Hood, Ok Zoe take the wheel"
"Wah" was all Zoe got out before Annabeth grabbed her hands, thus making me jolt back and fourth with the loose of stability, then Annabeth forced Zoe hands on the wheel while she fiddled with the Jumper machine that was duct taped to the dash.
Zoe screeched "I don't know how to drive" she again impersonated a deer in headlights. She yelped as she roughly turned the wheel, Annabeth saw this and commented "Why didn't you just hit the deer?"
I yelled as I began to hit the back of Annabeth seat "How dare you!" That little monster, That is my symbolic Animal and she just wants to hit it in my presence. Taking charge, I grabbed her headrest to hoist myself to a sitting position. The view outside the car was eye widening. We were just getting out of the base, and once we passed this white line. The base behind us became forest.
Thinking aloud "They have hidden themselves with a illusion" turning my head, I saw that Zoe was still driving, the dirt road made it hard for her to try and keep our car on the road. The noise from earlier started again and Annabeth looked ready to pass out from it but she steeled her nerves and kept fiddling with the machine.
A sudden spark came from the machine signaling it beginning to turn, I would have cheered if Annabeth hadn't of cursed "Gods dammit" I felt a contraction building so I quickly asked "Why is that...bad" the last work had to huffed out as the contraction seized, I could feel my abdomen shifted as the contraction drew it in. It seemed I could no longer breath proper as everything came out in gasps and grunts.
Annabeth tried something before hissing in pain "Its spinning backwards meaning the polarity is reversed so two things can happen". Before she could continue Zoe yelled "Break, Stop, something" with that car jerked to stop making me tumble into the space between my seat and theirs. My belly thoroughly wedged me in making it impossible for me to get out while enduring the most recent pain filled spasms called contractions.
Zoe yelled "Fix thy machine and explain". The horrid noise that must be causing the machine reverse polarity thing as when the noise got louder, the machine golden core became more and more of a blur.
Annabeth growled inches from Zoe faces as the two glared, the glaring contest only lasted a second, but I could see that they never got along. Annabeth was the first to break glaring as she tried to stop the machine "First the machine could make this whole car implode and about maybe a mile around us implode as well, or take us out of time and space to unknown territory, The first is more likely than the second". In response to this Zoe screeched "thou have put us in a death trap"
Annabeth shrugged "seems so unless I can stop the polarity" it seemed she sound tired and bored making Zoe look ready to slap her upside the head but Annabeth added "Whatever is causing that noise, is making me act like this, so don't hit me" finally getting a hold of one of the rings in the machine, she stopped it. Looking a tad proud of herself, Annabeth boasted "see I can fix it!"
The noise started steadily getting louder to the point black leaked from Annabeth's ears, she starting hissing and used all her available energy to keep the disks from spinning. The disks started to creak and groan as they tried to move tell finally the skin from Annabeth's fingers was ripped away violently. The gold disks were now gold and black.
I yelled "we have to get out of the car" but from the sound of cars behind us, it seemed that might be impossible. Managing to move so that I could see out the back, Army jeeps met my sight, with Kilalon hanging off the side of one. How they managed to catch up is beyond me but they have.
A piercing yell escape Annabeth, she seemed to no longer sound like herself "brace yourselves" a glow began to escape the machine, it travelled slowly in the car, casting everything in a white glow, then making it seem that I was just in a sea of white. I no longer felt the pain of contractions or the worry about my kids. I could no longer feel anything in the white glow. It seeming I began to pass out as black shadows began to edge at the tips of my vision.
The blackness completely eclipsed my vision but not for long, as a purple glow made my eyes fly open. I was back in the ruins of my dreams. Looking for the strange woman, she was nowhere in sight but a chant was echoing all around. It sounds like 4 people were trying to summon something. I noticed that the sky was a thousand shapes of purple, with tornados dancing around in the clouds. To my left I watched as a whole section of earth collapsed inwards. Getting to my feet, I slowly trudged to the edge to look into the collapses to see that the interior of this world was gone as a black hole like thing spun sucking in the earth all around it.
"It's being destroyed" the words echoed around me as I spoke, why was it collapsing, where is the strange woman who I had a sneaky suspicion that she was what was left of the first creation after she was destroyed.
Looking up at the sky once again, I watched as everything in this place was falling apart right in front of me, and once again I could do nothing. Nothing at all
"Beautiful isn't it, destruction always seems to bring with it a beauty that few could understand" I turned to see a young girl with long gold hair that seemed to float, as I stared she seemed to get younger and younger confirming my suspicions completely.
Looking back to the black hole like figure, I asked "Am I right, that you have been the first creation this whole time?" She joined me on the edge looking down, watching earth, and stone, and even some clouds, nothing was escaping.
She sighed "Yes I am and yet I am not, I am what's left of her, yet now I am changing, being reborn anew, the worlds shall come to balance one again with my rebirth. And the darkness will leave the poor boy" what darkness and poor boy. Looking over to her, I saw her ever changing eyes reveal she read my thoughts, yet she didn't answer.
She did unanswered a unspoken question "This place is being destroyed so that I can be reborn but don't fret, a piece of the old first creation will still live to guide your daughter, just that you will never see that piece again, now it's time for you to return, you have twins to give birth too."
Light enveloped me, I felt the pain of contractions plague me, and my whole body was stiff as a board, and I was parched. Slowly I looked around to see that the car was still one piece, albeit it was smoking, but still one piece. In the front seats Zoë and Annabeth groaned.
Annabeth muttered "It seems we were actually pulled out of space and time, just saying it could have been days, while to us it will be just minutes". With that she cracked her neck filling the car with bone against bone scraping. This caused both Zoe and I to cringe.
Zoe tried to start the car but only successful made the clinking noise, she commanded "Let's get out and see where we are?" she kicked her door open, the door swung then just fell off its hinges, smoking at the seams. Annabeth unbuckled before just rolling out of the car because her door was gone completely. Both came to the back and opened both doors to my sides.
Annabeth asked as she hoisted me out of the destroyed car "has your water broken". The cold of the outside hit me like bricks. Settling on my feet, I leaned heavily on Annabeth as my back stung from the torture it was going through. Finally hearing the question, I muttered "Not yet but so.." a strong contraction shut me up real fast. Everything just burned in pain like I was torn.
Zoe suddenly gave a whoop, she blushed ever so slightly as we looked at her, it really just seemed that her cheeks were just warm, kicking a little snow that was around us, she explained "Thou stupid machine has put thy on Mount. Hood" looking around, I saw the Mount peak a couple miles away, the snow was thick as even I didn't sink down far into it. Luck that we got out of the car as a crack sounded from below the car before the snow gave way and a mini avalanche came started down a hill with the car out front.
Annabeth wonder "how long we were stuck in transport?" in a way to answer out question, a loud thunderous noise started off to what might be the east. We all looked at each other with wide eyes. That's when the owner of such a horrid noise came over the mounts peak. It was a series of jets. Watching with wrap attention, the planes soared a little longer until they open a hatch and began to drop black objects. Now watching the objects, they disappeared from site as a hill of snow blocked out view but a several explosions went off that reminded me of Zeus when he was having one of his yelling fits.
Annabeth explained "those were bombs, big bombs" without another word, Zoe and Annabeth ran up the hill. Once they struggled to the top, Annabeth yelled "OH shit!" whatever stunned her had to be bad, really bad. Zoe started to turn the color of the snow below her feet making me really worried. Ignoring the pain, I trudge up the hill to see what got them so shocked.
I know I turned the color of the snow, just a few miles away was the most frightening battle scenes I had ever seen. Humans and gods banded together to protect the mount from hordes of Shades, some Shades were the size of buildings. Trenches had been dug, where turrets were position to fire. Humans lined everywhere ready to fire at anyone that came to close. Blood seemed to be the new ground with every crack, and dent, and sadly the trenches coated in blood. The gods were on the front lines pulling out everything they had. In those front lines, I saw the reason why they chose to fight, the ground had fracture to the point a blood red flow came from the fractures in the earth, as if Gaea was bleeding with everyone.
A more familiar thundering noise started, trucks, lots of trucks, over an embankment of snow came the Hummers, they didn't have their traditional yellow paint but more they were painted a white to match the now. It was clear they were filled to the brim with soldiers with the gun happening to poke out of a window. Annabeth ignoring the thought that they could be evil demigods, went sliding down the snow hill we were on, she waved her arms and yelled "hey". One Hummer pulled of line and began towards us. Before it even stopped, two demigods that I knew were still on our side popped out of the passenger side door. It was Jason Grace and Piper Grace, Piper was a honorary Roman so she wasn't caught in the Greek massacre.
Piper yelled "Hey Annabeth, where's Artemis" I waved from my spot on top the hill. A contraction was starting, so I was not going to try and move down the hill, no, I just sat down in the snow.
Jason informed "You'll be missing for days, from a spy we got, he said 3 days ago you escaped with the help of some creature" creature? What creature. Jason was observant enough to see all the raised brows. He added on with his own confused tone "You guys didn't see the giant white bird that was reported to be following you, stopping any shades from following, even some traitor demigods couldn't foll…" he trailed off as something in the sky caught his attentions then he cursed in Latin then English " damnit, They're coming, they must have sensed Artemis".
I looked up to see that Kilalon had made some new shades, just that these one could fly. They looked like a thick swarm of bugs that all flew together to look bigger then they truly are. Even with that knowledge, they still managed to scare everyone. A couple humans popped out of The Grace's, one yelled "Jay, get Lady Artemis to the crack, we'll keep these guys distracted as long as we can breathe"
Jason growled "call me Jason because you're going to live past this" with that piper ran up to help Zoe get me down from the snow mound, even though I couldn't look pleasant with the contraction making me crush all the ice near me.
The Human's in their winter cameo; all took point and began to shoot at the swarm got closer. Zoe got me in her arms, and began to run with the help of Piper. Annabeth looked like she wanted to stay and fight but the human's yelled "Go with the lady, they will get past us at some point" Annabeth frowned before running to the white hummer with Zoe and me following.
Jason ran in front of us and opened the door, He asked "Just going to ask, Artemis are you still in labor?" almost to answer his question my water broke right then and there. It was mixed with a little gold blood frightening everyone. Piper added "I think we can take that as a yes, and we need to get in gear." They put me in the back of the hummer just as I was hit with another contraction that caught me so off guard that I groaned loudly.
Piper got into the driver seat, she punched the gas before everyone was seated making us skid to the side. I yelled "Don't kill us!" faintly I wished that I could birth in a normal atmosphere not a war fueled one, because this was very close to insanity. Piper yelled "We have to get you to the crack!"
Zoe asked "What this crack, you speak of!" she had to yell a little bit as the engine was louder than Apollo chariot though just not as annoying. We hit a snow bank making us jump in our seats. I looked outside the window to see that we were already catching up with the other hummers.
Jason turned in the passenger seat and started to explain while also yelling at Piper with directions "two days Mount Hood exploded again, it took off a whole section to reveal the long hallway with the statues; it was simple glowing with gold power from the first creation. We just got a report 5 minutes before we found you all that all the statues moved to a praying position, GO LEFT, sorry but that has to be where you need to go, because it just make sense in this mess, MOVE OVER, in this messed up world that we all live in, also" he grab a radio and clicked while talking in it "Blue, respond, Blue, respond"
Percy voice echoed back "Blue gone, this is Sea, what's happen on your side?"
Jason responded back "triton's gone, damn this battles bad, well we got cargo that you'll defiantly be happy about!" he had a big smile because Percy seemed to fumble with the radio before asking "you found the deer?" I could figure 'The deer' meant me.
This was confirmed when Jason said "yes, we found the deer, we are taking her to base point, meet us there. Get The Witch and Fireball to take you" The witch, that could either be Hecate or Hica, but with the add on of fireball, it has to be Apollo and Hica.
_HAGA_
AT THE FRONTLINES
Percy ran through the trenches, trying to find Hica and Apollo. A shade jumped down but without even flinch, Percy spun on his heels, killing the shade letting it fall in the thick slush that covered everything. The mountain was cold enough to have slush but no0t called enough to have snow. This made life miserable on the front lines. This battle was in its second day making the human's feel warn out. The Romans were no better, most had slash inches deep on them since they don't have the protection of the trenches. The Gods had to get involved because huge cracks began to form in the earth. One bigger than them all that was off to the side of the battle area but the battle was moving towards it. Athena had the scary theory that, the crack could lead down to Gaea.
If the crack was deep enough to Gaea, then what could Kilalon be planning as he had to be the one that made these cracks in the earth, but why? My question was answer when my ADHD distracted me, showing something valuable important/ a flower that had manage to survive at the rim of the trench was starting to wither rapidly, along with it was the weeds, even the trees in the distance were showing effect.
I kicked up my pace while yelling "Where the Gods?!"
A human went into salute while answering "In the main tent, just one more down, Sit". I gave him nod before he turned back to the sniper rifle and began to fire rapidly. Peeking above the trench, I saw another wave of flying shades.
Getting back to my mission, I began to run for the tent. In front of my eyes, I watched as one running shade, jumped into the tent taking off a humans head. The human's body just fell, no spasms just snap, down. I swallowed in rage before taking the ice blade and slicing off the shade's head. I couldn't mourn for the poor man's death, I had to keep running feeling like crap about it. The Humans were strong but the waves just kept coming, where did the shades even come from.
The tent came into view and I blasted in just to hear Athena ask "Why would Kilalon send a whole force of his shades, down the huge crack in the earth to the east?"
I answered "I think to poison Gaea, it's the biggest crack, and you said it might lead to her. So well while running here to report, I saw a flower just wither in front of me" this made a course of curse rang out. If Gaea gets poisoned, doesn't matter if we win this battle, still game over. Gaea may not be my most favorite immortal but she is damn important to every ones survival. If she gets too poisoned, the earth dies, then we all die, and that would be very bad.
Athena went into full warrior mode, she commanded "Hica, Apollo protects the hole, we can't let anymore shades poison her, I don't how they are but we can't let them continue, Percy, you and Alex go to..." I interrupted her not caring that I might get hit for it "We have to go to the fracture on the mountain leading into it, Artemis has been found and their leading her to base point, the way into the mountain BECAUSE IT HAD STRANGE POWER COVERING IT!"
Athena sneered at me "don't interrupt me, I already knew Artemis was found, I sensed her presence, so let me make the orders, GO to base point!" I smiled as a sorry before waiting for orders to finish.
Athena continued "Hestia, I need you to make a line of fire, separating the shades from us, Hera, I need you to help make sure that the humans keep up the constant fire" I glanced at Hera to see she did look even close to snappy, for once she looked dead serious in helping, I looked back at Athena "Hermes, track the shades movement and tell the human generals and us when something strange happens, Ares, take the remaining romans to flank the west, we already have a platoon moving in from the east". That's when I noticed people missing from the meeting, Like my dad.
Athena saw me looking around for those missing "Don't ask, you won't like the answer Perseus, right now we need to make sure this mountain stays ours, we may have lost the rest of the Northwest but not this mountain" right, the wave of Shades that began a burn march, destroying Seattle and Portland in their wake.
I decided to run out, I needed to focus and if I knew what happened to my dad, I couldn't focus at all.
_HAHA_
Apollo POV
I ran out with Hica on my heels, ever second she was forced to fire off some spell to keep the Shades out of the trenches, I have never seen her use much of her magical abilities but now I know why. Every time she used a spell, she looked even more tired than before, it was like every spell was worth running a 100 yards to her.
Looking behind me, I remember what she said before the battle.
_FLASHBACK_
"Apollo, could I talk to you" I turned to look at Hica, just by her eyes I could tell she was about to admit something she really didn't want to, it made her red eye turn a blood red, while her gold was almost yellow. Feeling a little stressed, I squeaked "What is it, does Kilalon have some ultimate weapon".
Hica shook her head "I have no clue on that, I just wanted to tell you something about my immortality" it felt like my heart froze, I never did ask her the extent of immortality, I always figured since she was the daughter of the first creation that she was a full on Immortal, maybe she was even a goddess with no domain yet. I can't lie; I felt a twinge of fear for her.
She saw my fear like I had written it on my forehead, finally as fast as she could, she explained "I am only semi-immortal, I can die, I just now realizing that I might not make it out of this battle, with the humans pulling out all the stops and it still seems like it is not enough being enough, and the fact that kilali…" I shut her up right there with a kiss on the lips, she was afraid of death, and that was ok as I wouldn't let her die, no matter what.
_FLASH BACK_
I wanted to tell her to stay in the tent, to stay safe, but I know she wouldn't listen to me, she wouldn't let herself be a coward even in front of death.
The sky was suddenly basked in orange as Hestia started a fire, separating the humans from the shades, It took so much for us to get her involved in this fight but we finally managed it. She hated fight so that why she would only help us but not actually fight. It seemed the plan of her making a fire wall was working tell some creature came launching towards her. I watched in slow motion as she tried to avoid it but it hit her. When it became clear, I saw the Dark creature was Kilalon, He had an evil smirk on his face as He got his hands wrapped around her neck. I turned away as I heard a sickening crack.
Hica yelled "with have to keep running, It's too late for her, A wave of shades is going for the hole, we need to get there" still I wanted to turn around, I am a God, and yet I can't turn around and help. I have to keep to the goal, even with how much it hurts. For once, I felt true hate for a war.
I tried to keep my vision focused on the way out, if I dared to look anywhere else, I might snap like never before.
The Trenches suddenly stopped as they must have collapsed, leaving Hica and I in the open. The crack in the ground was still about a quarter of a mile ahead of us. She looked at me with a fire in her eyes, she wasn't stopping now. Before I could try to reason with her, she climbed over the fallen rubble, once atop the ruined trenches, she seemed to be target number one for the shades. One came running at her but without moving, she killed it with a pressure spell that came blasting out of the staffs curve.
I climbed as fast as I could to join her, pulling a sword out of the hilt that hung on my hip, I aimed the mortal steel to the wave coming at us. I wish that I could us my bow, it would be so much more simpler, but my arrows have a slim chance of winning against the shades.
Hica growled "we got to move, another wave is heading for the crack" I had just enough time too look, a wave of maybe 100 shades was getting closer and closer to the crack, several humans tried to keep them at bay with firing machine guns mounted on white jeeps but it wasn't enough. A tiny though popped into my head as I wondered how Kilalon made so many shades.
Steeling my nerves, my feet began to move on autopilot as I struggled to ignore the horrors of war. This day would be seared in my memory to forever haunt me, to forever keep me up at night, to see the dead staring at me. A sting began in my cheek, as I realized Hica had slapped me. She yelled right in my face "get your head in the game" I was so close that I could almost see in the darkness of the pupil in her red eye, a figure. Shaking that thought away, I tried my best to focus on what's happening now.
We were now only feet away from the crack, because of my stall earlier, we didn't get there fast enough. The Humans were pushed back to fall into the crack, to their deaths, their screams bounced around in my head, to forever echo. The shades followed the humans into the dark abyss. Hica swung her staff with power, making pure burning hot power launch at the shades, only killing maybe 10, the rest already falling down, I swear they were laughing.
Hica looked around, to see no more shades. She cursed "they stopped, why?" that was answered as I saw some trees down the mountain side starting to turn yellow. They were poison, and effective poison at that. I racked a hand through my blonde hair, then I finally snapped "Fucking dammit, fucker damn Kilalon, I will kill him, I will rip out his organs and strangle him with them" my heart, felt like it was bleeding as I felt hopelessness begin to invade, the hopelessness was a cold bitter wind inside of me, this must be how Gaea would feel if she was awake to feel the poison.
Hica looked down the crack. It was huge as she looked small standing by it. The thing was 100 feet wide, and maybe a mile long as I couldn't even see the tip of it down the mountain side past the dying trees. The ground in the crack was brown but it was clearly starting to turn dark, I wondered what the world would look like with Gaea complexly poisoned, could Demeter even get the plants to grow.
Hica asked "If Gaea was awake, could she stop the poison?" as her eyes turned to me, I saw something strange in them, a look of thought like she hated what she was thinking.
Not knowing where my voice was, I nodded. Hica asked again "How do you wake her up?"
I swallow to get the cotton mouth to go away; I managed "well someone with a lot of power would have to sacrifice themselves to her to wake her up".
Over towards the battle field, an explosion rocked the mountain side. I saw Kilalon racing towards us; he had an insane grin on his face, the gold blood of those he took on, coated him like a sticky paint. Fear gripped my heart, a feeling that months ago would seem so foreign but with recent events, it seemed so familiar. The familiarity didn't stop the paralyses in my feet, all I could was hold up the mortal blade, is this how mortals felt all the time.
He was only yards away, getting closer; a pain began in my neck as the sound of Hestia neck cracking, echoed in my head.
He was almost here, I felt myself drop back, I was going to run, but that isn't what a God is supposed to do, I am acting mortal in front of this horror.
As I tried to get myself not to run away, Hica ran, Hica ran towards Kilalon. She pulled her staff back like she was a baseball player ready to hit the ball. With all her force into it, she swung it around, an invisible force hit Kilalon in the side making him skid back but the insane smile still graced his features, his dark glasses didn't even fall off. Hica yelled with the courage of thousands "YOU ARE NOT WINNING WHILE I STILL STAND"
Kilalon howled "Then I will cut off your legs, YOU MUTT" he pulled out a long katana like blade from a holster on his back, it spark with a red lightening. Hica staff glowed in response to the blade being drawn. I realized they were about to fight and I will still standing there, fear gripping my core.
They both raised their blades, Hica growled "Do you know honor, Kilalon?"
Kilalon cooed evilly "If you mean that two warriors both agree not to desecrate each other weapons or bodies once ones hearts stop beating" it seemed that this was something from another world.
She droned "yeah that one"
Kilalon growled "No need for it, because I am breaking your little staff while you live, I finishing what I started, To Kill your sister last essences". With that he kicked up snow as he launched forward with sword at the ready, Hica acted like a trained soldier. She lost all emotion to her face except for one that was very clear determination. She launched forward kicking up snow as well, her staff pulled back at the ready.
The collision of their weapons was like grenade being set off; the shock wave knocked me right of my feet, almost making me follow into the crack in the ground. I could barely raise my head before another wave of pressure pushed me back down.
Being fast, I looked up to see Kilalon howled inhumanly as he gold blood was drawn from his shoulder, he sounded like a wolf mixed with a snakes hiss. Hica screeched as platinum blood was drawn from her side. They both glared at each other before going in again.
I got to my feet, I had to help Hica, and Kilalon isn't a shade so maybe, just maybe I can use my arrows against him. Summoning my blade, I took aim; they were both moving so fast, trying to outdo the other. Hica went in for a spell attack but Kilalon dodged the bolt of fire, he went to cut off her head, she batted the blade away with her staff. She sprung back and landed on some invisible pedestal in the air, this was my chance. I fired at Kilalon; the arrow zipped towards him like a blur but didn't meet its mark.
He cut the arrow in half, just like that, cut in half. He sneered at me from across the rocks between us. How do I defeat this thing, he was no man, no god, he was some force that I can't kill.
Hica didn't seem to care what Kilalon was and what he could do; she kicked off from her pedestal silently, her staff drawn back, it sizzling with power. I saw the plan, she seemed to make on the fly. I drew another arrow and fired it quickly, then another, and another. I was going to keep Kilalon attention on me.
She was getting closer, and Kilalon was still busy, trying to block all my arrows, he was distracted. She was in range, and Kilalon was still on me, this might just work. She started a spell, ready to really nail him into oblivion.
That's when everything went wrong; the world seemed to freeze around me just like my heart. Kilalon at last minute, like a viper, stroke. He didn't even us his sword, he just thrust him hand to the side and grab Hica throat canceling out the spell. She gagged as he squeezed.
I didn't need to think before I yelled "No, Don't" I gained feeling to move, abandoning my bow as it would just slow me down, I put everything I had into my speed yet I was still too slow. He ripped her staff out of her hands, removing her sight; it was like he was removing her life in my eyes that began to fog with tears.
I don't care if men are not supposed to cry, tears still began to flow. Hestia neck snapping reentered my mind, the slow sound, now it was going to Hica's neck snapping, that sound forever echoing in my head to never let me ever feel love because it will die with her.
Kilalon brought her higher in the sky before what seems to be all his upper arm strength, and brought her down. The sound of bones cracking reached my ears. Yet she didn't die, a pained whine reached my ears as I still was too far to do something.
Kilalon laughed "Not killing you yet, just sit there dearie" he pounder her staff into the ground, making it sink in the slush a couple inches, he held it there with his right and, noticing me he cooed "Don't come any forward or I will throw my sword into her skull"
I stopped, there was nothing I could do, he has me backed into a corner like some animal.
Lifting his sword with his left, he laughed "Say good bye to whatever is left of your sister essence, I can't wait to end this, this little essence that been pledging my sense will be gone". With that he began to bring down his sword.
Hica cried a screech "No!" but the act was down, the closer his sword got, it was like two magnets trying to repeal each other but Kilalon was strong enough to overcome the power. Light began to form between the two weapons as inches became mere centimeters. The bright light basked the area in a heavenly glow, but it was no heaven. Wood began to splinter on the staff revealing a bright red core, tell the core snapped releasing a huge sonic boom. The light vanished from the area as the staff lay broken on the ground. Yet the staff even being broke left us a little present, where Kilalon right hand should be located was just steam evaporating in the air.
He did something between a growl and a gag, the pain was clear even in his eyes behind his glasses. He did a disappearing act, leaving us alone.
I ran to Hica, side, ignoring the heat that was seeping through my shoes, burning everything. All that was on my mind was, is she ok. I saw her still lying on the ground but there was movement. I fell to my knees and skidded to her side, she coughed up blood as she struggled, her eyes a start white gray. She no longer could see at all.
I slowly picked her up from the around and set her in my lap, she cried sight as her ribs were all clearly broken from all the weird places that her chest sunk in when it wasn't supposed to. I cried, my tears following down on her cheek "please live, I…. I can fix it"
Hica gagged past the blood feeling her mouth "I don't…. think… you can"
