A/N: Shorter part, but it fills in a little bit of the gap. Read, review and enjoy!
Chapter Thirty Nine
As Tamsin sat on the roof looking out over the city she couldn't help but feel conflicted. She was used to doing a lot to get a job done, but making someone believe that she loved them, just to eventually betray and kill them was a new one, even for her. Odin had told her to break the gang apart from the inside, she knew that was going to be harder than it seemed. Getting Dyson and Kenzi on side wasn't going to be too difficult, Dyson was her partner whether they were still working together or not, Kenzi trusted her with her life. It hadn't always been that way, but that's how it was now. She would never see any harm come to the human, she couldn't, she was Tamsin's family.
She heard movement behind her.
"I came up here to think," Tamsin said not turning around, "I don't need you following me everywhere..."
"My orders are pretty clear," Mena said, "I'm here to make sure you see this through."
"What do you get out of it Mena?" Tamsin asked, "What are they giving you for this?"
"My freedom," Mena said, "my access to Valhalla, my life back. That's what I get out of this. That and the pure satisfaction of watching you destroy the only person you've ever really loved."
"You're all heart..." Tamsin replied.
"Do you have any idea what it was like growing up in your shadow?" Mena asked, "The great Tamsin, the ultimate Valkyrie. Do you understand the pressure all of us were under, those of us that you trained? We were expected to be the best. Unbeatable... You have no idea what it was like. They placed you on this pedestal, you were what we all strived to become..."
"I wasn't the one who made you feel that way," Tamsin replied, her eyes firmly trained on the city skyline in front of her, "all I ever wanted from you, from any of you, was for you to become the best that you could be. To reach your full potential... To survive whatever battles you were faced with... It wasn't exactly easy for me either you know... do you know how old I was when I first held a sword… I was 3 years old. First time I sparred with anyone, all of Valhalla was there to watch… whatever normal is for a Valkyrie, I never had it…"
"Because you were destined for more Tamsin." Mena said.
"And I guess this is it right…" Tamsin replied.
"Yeah this is it." Mena said, "You see this through and you will mark your place as the greatest Valkyrie that ever lived…"
"What if I don't want that…?" Tamsin asked.
"How could you not want that?" Mena asked in reply, her sense of utter disbelief at what Tamsin had just said quite evident in her voice.
"These people are my… friends…" Tamsin replied.
"Valkyrie's don't have friends, we don't form emotional attachments," Mena said, "isn't that what you always told us?"

It was 4am when Tamsin finally got back into bed, Bo was still fast asleep, or so she thought. As soon as Tamsin had got out of bed Bo had woken up, and she hadn't gone back to sleep. Tamsin lay down with her back to Bo, closed her eyes and finally fell asleep. The Succubus sat up in bed, watching as the Valkyrie slept. From the first night she and Tamsin had spent the night in the same bed there had never been any distance between them. She got up to get a bottle of water from the fridge and saw that Mena was still awake.
"You couldn't sleep either huh?" Mena asked as Bo got a bottle of water out of the fridge.
"No…" Bo replied, opening the bottle and taking a drink, "I'm worried about Tamsin…"
"There's nothing to worry about Bo," Mena said, "she's fine."
"No, no she's not." Bo said, "the Tamsin you remember is nothing like the person she became… she's… different."
"She just needs a little time," Mena replied, trying to reassure Bo, the one thing she didn't need to happen was the Succubus realising that something wasn't right.
Spending more and more time around Bo, Mena had started to realise that maybe she did actually love Tamsin. No one else had picked up on her being different, no one had noticed anything, but Bo had. Bo knew. Which, Mena realised, meant Bo really knew Tamsin. The Valkyrie had broken down her walls and let her in. When they had been at the Dal she had heard Tamsin ask Bo if she wanted to go home. The loft was both of their homes, their home together, with the human. She had never known Tamsin to actually settle down anywhere, she was always moving around from place to place, but not this time. Another thing that Mena had noticed was the way Tamsin was around the human. Kenzi. She knew that Kenzi had pretty much raised Tamsin this time round, from Tamsin had told her it had been the most normal of any of her rebirths, Kenzi had made Tamsin see that she could be anyone that she wanted to be. The little human had changed the Valkyrie, Mena saw it more and more as she saw the Valkyrie and the human interact. These people weren't Tamsin's friends, as she had told Mena, they were her family. Mena hoped that it was just an act and it would fade in a few days, she didn't want what Odin and Freya had told her to be a lie. She didn't want Tamsin to destroy someone who really did love her, which would end Tamsin, and whatever their differences Mena didn't want to be responsible for that. She owed her life to Tamsin, if it hadn't been for the older Valkyrie she would never have survived as long as she had.
