"Are you sure you're okay leaving Richard and your mom to see Finn? I know I'm as big as a house nowadays but I can drive myself if you aren't," April held on to Jackson's hand as they made their way to the hospital exit.
''Honey, I want to see Finn just as much as you do,'' Jackson said as he opened the door for her. ''It's bad enough that we only get to see him once a month, I don't ever want to miss it.''
"Okay. If you're sure." She leaned in to kiss him.
Jackson pecked her lips with a smile, ''let's just hope this time goes better than last. I really thought he would be more excited about the prospect of having a sibling, although I can see where he's coming from.'' He opened the car door for April and hesitated before he continued, ''do you think we made the right decision? Letting Halia have him?''
"You know there will always be a part of me that doesn't think so, but in the long run it was for the best. Especially right now it's a good thing we don't have to worry about Finn with everything that's going on with Webber.''
''That's true, but we'll have to get used to juggling children and unexpected emergencies sooner or later, it's a guarantee with our work,'' Jackson said. ''You're right, it's probably better for him though.''
"I am anxious to see him. Maybe he will actually want to stay the night this time."
''I hope so, it'll be nice to spend some quality time with him,'' Jackson commented as he pulled into the parking lot where they always met up.
"You ready?" April asked as she unbuckled her seatbelt.
''As ready as I'll ever be,'' Jackson told her as he eyed Finn and Halia. They were standing near Halia's car and Finn already had a bored expression on his face, that wasn't too promising.
"Hey buddy!" April screamed as she ran... Wobbled toward Finn.
Jackson locked the car behind them as he walked over to them, waiting for April to release the almost-seven year old boy before giving him a hug as well. ''How're you doing buddy?'' He asked.
"Fine. I've missed you guys. Have you forgotten about me?" The 6 year old asked. He missed his friend's terribly but he was still angry.
April and Jackson shared a look before Jackson crouched down to the boy's level, ''we will never forget you, we miss you very much,'' he said. ''We're very sorry that we don't get to see you more often... April and I have been talking, your birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks, maybe we can spend some time together then? If Halia is okay with that.''
Finn's eyes brightened. "Can I aunt Halia? Please?" He begged her.
Halia hesitated; she was surprised that Jackson and April hadn't talked to her about this first. ''Of course... You know, maybe you can celebrate your birthday with them when we meet up next month?''
"Okay," Finn smiled.
"Maybe we can we can invite your family too." April suggested. We can have a big dinner. How does that sound?"
A big smile spread on Finn's face as he jumped up and down, ''can I invent Jimmy too? He is my new best friend!''
Jackson laughed at the excitement, ''you can invite whoever you want.''
"Yeah of course you can!" April agreed.
''How are we feeling today?'' Jackson asked as he walked into Richard's hospital room. It had been a couple of days since the accident and though Richard's was slowly getting better, he still had a long way to go.
Richard looked at Catherine who was sitting next to him. "He's ready to get his speech back." She said.
''We all are,'' Jackson said. ''Shepherd will come by later to do some more tests,'' he told Richard as he checked the stitches on his face, all seemed to be healing fine. ''How're you feeling other than that?''
Richard nodded emotionless and pointed to April's stomach.
''The baby is fine,'' Jackson said as he replaced the gauze on Richard's face. ''We saw Finn yesterday, his seventh birthday is coming up in a few weeks and Halia agreed to let us have dinner with him, you two can come too if you're up for that.''
"I think that would be fun!" Catherine smiled and agreed.
Richard however was not enthusiastic. "NO!" He wrote in all caps on his whiteboard.
Jackson frowned, ''Richard, I'm sure Finn would love to see you... What's wrong?''
"I just don't want to." He wrote.
''Maybe we should talk about this some other time,'' Jackson suggested with his eye on the heart monitor - Richard's heart-rate was going up and at this point in the recovery process stress was the last thing he needed.
Catherine nodded. I'm going to go get something in the cafeteria. I'll get you something okay honey?" Catherine eyed Jackson and April signaling then to walk her out.
April and Jackson followed her into the hallway, Richard had lay back down and looked a bit calmer but still upset. Jackson eyed his mother, ''what is up with him?''
''He's not very comfortable or confident right now. He thinks he's a burden and that people will take pity on him.'' She answered.
Jackson sighed, ''could you talk to him? Try to convince him to go?''
''We know he hasn't met Finn that often but it'd be nice to celebrate his birthday with the whole family,'' April added.
I'll do the best I can baby."
''Mom the birthday party is tomorrow, everyone is going to be here, from both sides of Finn's family. Can't you try to talk him into it one more time?'' Jackson begged his mother. He knew there weren't going to be many occasions where he had his whole family there with Finn included, but tomorrow was one of those chances and he was going to try his hardest to make it happen.
''Honey I don't know what else to do. He won't budge... but... I have an idea. What if we move the party to the hospital? We can use the pediatric unit and Richard and I can just happen to walk down there.''
Jackson shot a look over at April before looking back at Catherine, ''mom, there are going to be 20-something people there, not to mention it's a kid's birthday party. I want Richard there but I don't think it's possible to move to the party to the hospital.''
''Sure we can we can clear the cafeteria. I feel like this is our last shot. If he has a tantrum I'll deal with it. What do you say?"
''How about we talk it over with Halia?'' Jackson suggested to April. He wasn't sure they could just do this and he didn't know if it was fair to Finn that he had to spend his birthday at a hospital, but maybe they could make it work?
"Sure I'll call Halia in a little bit... I'm going to go lay down for a while. Something just doesn't feel right.'' April slowly made her way to the bedroom before Jackson caught up with her.
''April, what is wrong?'' Jackson asked as he helped her onto the bed.
''I don't know? I just don't feel good. I... " before she could say another word she collapsed and began seizing.
''Mom, call 911!'' Jackson called out to Catherine who had remained in the living room.
"So she just started seizing? No headache? Shortness of breath?" Jackson ran with Arizona as she pushed the gurney to an examination bay. She grabbed her stethoscope from around her neck.
''I don't think so. She just said that she didn't feel right and that she was going to lie down,'' Jackson explained as Arizona began to examine April.
Just then April began to stir, "J...Jackson where... Am I where...'' She groaned, ''my head is killing me.'' ''Honey we're at the hospital, you collapsed and Arizona is examining you,'' Jackson explained, April looked confused as ever though.
"Collapsed? No... I was talking to your mom and then went to lie down. That's all"
April started trying to get up so Jackson gently held her down, ''April, you had a seizure and you need to lie still until we are certain that you're okay.'' He said.
"Seizure? Is the baby alright? Is my baby alright?!'' She started panicking and screamed in fear.
''The baby should be fine,'' Arizona told her in a calming voice. ''Just try to stay calm. How are you feeling?''
"Jackson, promise me nothing will happen to the baby. Even if something happens to me don't lose the baby!"
''I won't,'' Jackson promised and he could see April relax a bit. ''April, I'm going to admit you while we run some more tests okay?'' Arizona said.
"Admitted? No Finn's party is tomorrow. J can't handle thirty people alone. Just let me go and then after I'll-'' Jackson stopped her mid sentence.
''We need to look out for your safety and the baby's safety right now, don't worry about a thing,'' Jackson told her as Arizona walked off to get the admit papers. He remembered his mother's suggestion. They could just have the party here if need be.
"But Jackson I don't want to let Finn down. He's my son too. April didn't realize how worried Jackson was. She was caught off guard when he snapped at her a little.
''And so is the child you're carrying,'' Jackson snapped. ''Or daughter. Either way, you need to think about them too. I understand that Finn is important to you and that you want him to have a nice birthday, but right now you just need to be okay.''
"Jackson, are you crying?" She noticed his head was down and he wasn't making eye contact.
Jackson quickly wiped his eyes, ''I'm fine. You just don't worry okay? I'll take care of everything.''
