A/N: Here's a new update! Enjoy! Usual disclaimers apply. And the replies for all the reviews that I couldn't reply to are here.
Nikki: Thanks! I hope you like this one shot.
OllielovesDinah: I definitely won't be abandoning this ship. The passion for it may lull (as does with most of my ships), but it'll always have a warm place in my heart. Unfortunately, what happens on the show doesn't suit what we think should happen for our ship (thank God for fanon). If you have any scenario that you think should be written out/something random that you've always wanted to see, please let me know.
B: Your prompt is the next one-shot for Obstacles! I would've written it this time, but I was plagued by this small idea.
Dkfuryan: Awww 3 Thanks! If you got any ideas, let me know!
Manuela: I'm glad you liked the last one! It was a pleasure to write!
"Ollie, why are we here?" Laurel grumbled as they made their way through the crowded fair grounds. He grinned his boyish grin back at her. She shook her head and yawned. She'd started this venture without any coffee in her veins, and he'd woken her up way before her weekend wake up time. Laurel was not pleased with him.
"There's a fortune teller here," he answered over the loud crowd. She could hear his grin in his voice. "It'd be cool to see where our futures lie."
"If you wanted to break up, you didn't have to drag me out of my bed," Laurel half joked. Before they'd started this arrangement, both had agreed to remain friends even if their relationship development went sour.
Oliver walked Laurel along until they found a little tent, in the middle of bigger tents, that was made of colorful quilt cutouts. He raised the tent flap and Laurel went in. there was a small round table, a bunch of rugs, and a floral table cloth on the small table. There were two chairs on one side of the table, near where Laurel and Oliver stood, and one on the other side. A small woman stood in the back of the tent, humming and making some kind of potion, and she turned her toothy grin back at them. She wore a flowing skirt and a very dark tunic. Her white hair was pulled up into a severe bun.
"Please, take a seat," the woman nodded to the chairs. She wiped her hands on a random towel. The woman tossed it aside and grinned at the little crystal ball in the middle of the table. "Hm."
She sat down and gazed at Oliver and Laurel. Her hands ran over the small crystal ball like an old friend, someone that she would love to communicate a lot with. Laurel watched with fascination and the woman smiled at her.
The woman sat down and cleared her throat. She put a red bandana on her hair and grinned at Laurel from across the table. "You are a strong couple, eh?"
Oliver crossed his arms. the woman giggled at him. "What do you think?"
She gazed at her crystal ball for many long moments. She turned her eyes to Laurel and then back to Oliver. "Your path is a twisted one. I'm very… concerned about what is going to become your own… paths."
Laurel's eyebrow rose. "I'm sorry, but aren't you supposed to be a generic fortune teller telling us that we're fated to be together forever, everyone will be happy when we have many adorable babies… or that he's leaving me for his assistant."
The woman smiled. "A blonde assistant will prove to be an obstacle in the future… but you shall see."
The woman's eyes focused on the crystal ball again. "You shall go through tremendous amounts of pain before… a rocky path, one on an island, and another picking up pieces… is in your futures. You will be in my prayers."
Oliver laughed. "Yeah, thanks for the tip. How much do we owe you?"
The woman smiled. "Nothing. Our paths will cross one more time before too long a time has past. You both shall be in my prayers."
Laurel blinked away her sleepiness as she looked at the screen. This lack of sleep was not going to do well with her job performance. She heard her phone ring and she answered it without looking at the screen. "Lance."
"Why are you always so authoritative when you answer your phone?" Oliver laughed on the other end. Laurel rubbed her forehead. "I know you're tired. I wanted to bring you some hazelnut coffee."
"Bring five larges," Laurel muttered. Oliver laughed into the speaker and Laurel fought a grin. They'd settled into an easy relationship, both not talking about Sara leaving or his secret identity. They also didn't speak about a certain blonde hacker that Oliver was currently dating. "Don't you have something to do besides bring me coffee?"
"Yeah, but that can be done later." She heard him open an office door. Laurel looked up and saw Oliver hand her a gigantic coffee cup. She smiled in response. Oliver took in her entire presence. "How late last night?"
Laurel rubbed her eyes and held up three fingers. Oliver whistled and she nodded. "I'm not used to all the paperwork that comes from this job."
Oliver nodded. "You need to take a break."
Laurel glared at him. "Boundaries, Oliver Queen."
He threw his hands up, grabbed his cup of coffee, and walked out of her office. He winked at her as he left and waved his hand. Laurel felt her heart thump and groaned.
It couldn't be this hard. Her heart didn't know what she would do to prevent any mishap. Her heart wasn't strong enough to get attached to him again.
Oliver stomped out of Laurel's office. His heart pounded in defiance at her words and indifferent body language. Oliver gazed at the wall and shook the thoughts out of his head.
He went out into the street and his eyes widened when he saw an older woman, with a long blue dress, and a blue bandana wave at him. Oliver cautiously walked over to the woman and she smiled at him proudly. "Still struggling, are we?"
Oliver blinked. "Do I know you?"
"Of course you do," the woman cackled. "I'm the one who gave you your fortune… eight years ago. Told you I would be back."
"Eight years in an awfully long time," Oliver commented. The woman walked up to him, took his right hand, and flipped it up so that she could examine his palm. She tsked with her teeth while she observed him.
"The pain is done, yes? Hopefully," she made the sign of a cross and grinned at him. "Ah. Another woman in the picture? She thinks you two are serious…. Why don't you tell her otherwise?"
Oliver gazed at the woman. "She doesn't need me in her life."
The woman cackled and started walking away from him. Oliver watched her turn around a few yards from him and called back, "She needs you now more than ever. Her heart isn't as weak as she thinks it is. Your support is very much needed, young man. Don't make the mistake of losing her again."
Oliver watched the woman disappear into the crowded streets. He looked back up at Laurel's office building. "Dammit all to hell."
He rushed back into the building and into her office. he told her explicitly that he couldn't live without her and that he needed her more in his life than he wanted to admit to anyone. Afterwards, of course, he endured one of the most awkward phone calls in his life.
A/N: So, a quick little update. Tomorrow begins the other updating (probably different one shot stories) and Obstacles will be updated once a week.
If you have an idea/prompt, let me know!
Until Next Time,
