I got a ton of hate mail on how I originally ended it. So...I fixed it :)
Your months ahead in the future get better and better. You got to see John again, after he left the hospital of course. He was in a wheel chair for a few weeks, but he was still fairly happy. Not to mention him and Tavros could relate a lot more to each other. They did go wrong on the wheel chair races, though. Once Gamzee accidentally pushed Tavros down the hillside instead of through the finish line.
You were also around when John was finally able to get out of the stupid wheel chair. He hated that thing. In celebration everybody got to trash it. It kind of came to a close after Kanaya sawed it in half. The neighbors sort of freaked out at the chainsaw and called the police.
A little while after that, Dave could finally remember things. He remembered it at the worst time though. It was in the summer when it happened. He was at the top of a diving board, thinking the jump was going to be amazing, but then Tavros' horns smacked him on the back of the head, jogging the final bit of his memory. He was about to refuse the jump, but since Tavros' horns already smacked him he was on his way down. The entire time Dave was screaming like a banshee.
When the fall finally came, Karkat and Nepeta shared their first semi-romantic evening together. The tree house really did serve a purpose. It was more than a chill little hang out. It was also useful for a platform to set off fireworks from. Sure, Equius' hive blew up, but it worked out.
Winter had finally arrived, and everybody was together again. There was an unspoken agreement to never have a Christmas party at John's again, so everybody celebrated at Jade's home. Everybody had a nice time, being able to be at peace for once. Sure, Bequerel tried to eat Feferi, but over all it was enjoyable.
You still remember that Christmas party. There you were, entering through the door. Terezi was there. You didn't even know why she showed up, but she did. You were able to go right by her and see somebody else. You think you saw Terezi almost frown at the sight. You still feel a little proud for pulling through and getting over her.
Now you sat with your friends. It was movie night, and you honestly didn't care about what movie was playing. You were just glad that this was all coming to a nice close. You sat by Nepeta as she slowly fell asleep. The movie wasn't boring, she had just seen it too many times. John put on GhostBusters for the millionth time, and nobody else protested because they were already asleep.
For once in your lifetime, you feel happy. You're now sitting at the park on the perch of a hill in the fresh grass as everybody hangs out at the bottom of the hill in the basin. You don't need to be doing too much at the moment, you're pretty satisfied. You're not all that angry at the world anymore, because you've got the perfect distraction from it. Dave.
You sigh and lay back onto the grass, tucking your hands behind your head and knitting them together. You see Dave pop into view above you with a smirk.
"Enjoying being alone and too cool for everyone else?" Dave teases.
"Just sit down," You scoff in response.
Dave lays next to you, looking at the sky. "I still have no idea how this turned out so well."
You frown. "Me neither. Terezi doesn't even do anything anymore."
"Eh, she was obnoxious anyways." Dave brushes it off.
You pause for a moment, a thought clouding your mind. "Why do people even bother with dating? It just ruins lives."
Dave subtly agrees with a grunt. "I dunno, I guess people like kissing."
"Its just you smushing your lips against someone else's. Its like softly punching someone in the mouth." You counter.
"A punch of admiration." Dave says with a sigh. "Have you ever softly punched someone in the mouth with yours?"
You huff. "When I was trying to save Kanaya from dying."
Dave shrugs. "Yeah, but I don't think that counts. You didn't do it for love, you did it for friendship."
"I guess so. I've never really made out with anyone then." You suppose.
"Who do you want to make out with?" Dave asks casually.
You tense up at the sudden question. "...Nobody."
Dave smirks. "Suuuure."
You don't say anything back, you just look at the clouds. Maybe romance just wasn't your thing. You can stick your nose in anybody's romance, you can watch it on TV, but in the end you just don't have it for your own. But you know what, you don't mind so much. Because with friends like these, who needs a special someone to kiss good night and drive home? You've got friends to spend the night at your house instead. Now that's better. Girlfriends and boyfriends leave. Friends don't.
