Arandur felt the tracks before him. They weren't fresh, the orcs were moving in their numbers towards the mountain. He wanted to warn Lark before they reached it and destroyed her and the Company. He picked himself up and looked about, Tauriel ran to her grandfathers side.
"The abandoned fortress of Dol Guldor is near. If we head towards it there may be some stragglers we can eliminate and potentially some prisoners we can free...Grandfather?"
The older elf was gazing at the path ahead of him and for once the shadow of the trees above him felt cold and heavy. The woods didn't feel lime home, but a prison set on trapping the light of the wood-elves and holding the captive within. The dark-haired soldier turned to face Tauriel.
"You're right...we will head for the fortress and pray to Aüle that if any prisoners are there, then they've been spared the cruelty of torture."
With that the two elves ran towards the ruins of Dol Guldor.
Kili looked up at the ruins in front of him and now wished he'd listened to Lark's mother. He should've just turned back, but then Fili and Bifur would've asked questions. His thoughts drifted to his One, she was carrying a baby...HIS BABY...the thought of any harm coming to either of them...his fists clenched and bile rose in his throat...would he make a good father though? He never knew his own and Thorin was the only figure he could think of as his role model...Wasn't he too young to be a dad? Wasn't Lark to young to be a mum? Well it was to late now wasn't it? A hand on his shoulder caused him to jump. Kili turned to face his brother.
"You ok Kee?"
"Fine perfect why wouldn't I be? I'm just worried about father...farther further I'm just worried about going in further!"
Fili raised an eyebrow at his brother, Bifur mumbled something in Khuzd Dhul before striding off towards the ruins and the two brothers trailed quietly after him.
Tauriel kept her bow drawn as she followed Arandur through the fortress. Her nerves were on edge and she tried not to look at the cages with the dead hoisted above her.
"Oi Lass care tae gi' us a hand oot of ere?"
She whizzes round and pointed her arrow. It was the hatted dwarf from Oakenshields Company. He was swinging above her in one of the iron cages. A small cough from her other side made her see Mithrindir hanging a couple of cages away. Arandur quickly scaled the wall and picked the lick releasing the wizard. Tauriel did the same for the dwarf.
"Thanks Lass!"
A loud Khuzd Dhuk grunt was heard and all of a sudden Bofur was tackled to the floor by Bifur.
"OOF GERROF ME BIFUR ITS GOOD TAE SEE YA TOO!"
Fili and Kili soon followed and screeched to a halt when they saw the two elves. Arandur bowed his head.
"We meet again Master Kili!"
Tauriel's jaw dropped.
"So he's that girls Kili?!"
"Uh hi!"
Tauriel bowed her head. Kili turned to Bofur and Gandalf.
"Lark? Is she here? Please is she hurt?"
The wizard tried to speak and Bofur lowered his gaze. Arandur frowned.
"What about Lark?...SPEAK WIZARD!"
Tauriel jumped at the harshness of her grandfathers tone. The hatted dwarf flinched and looked up at the grey wizard. Gandalf merely shook his head.
Kili shook his head.
"No...please no...no she can't...can't be.."
He grabbed Bofur's jacket and shook him, his shoulders quaking as he choked on sobs.
"Bofur please...shes my everything...my world...my air..please tell me she's ok..."
The young dwarf sank to his knees and Bofur placed a hand on his shoulder. Kili sobbed hard and his heart wrenched in pain. She couldn't be gone...his heart, his soul, his everything...no she wasn't gone...he wouldn't let her be...
"My young Kili...she is not dead...but we do not know where or what she has become!"
