Elektra Pov
I followed my sister on the high street asking her questions. Melissa didn't seem to have changed much over the years, but she did seem to have developed some sort of a personality instead of being a younger snobby version of Mum. I was surprised Mum had even let her marry this Harvey dude! But then again you wouldn't expect Melissa to attract wrong-uns.
"So, when did you move up here?" I asked curiously.
"Oh we still live in London! Mum and I thought it would be better if we picked your dress from one of these shops around here. It'd be easier anyway."
"So you came up from London, just to see me?" I asked surprised.
"Yeah. It's just me though. Day trip. But you'll have to travel back down to London after to see all of us. And the wedding won't be too far from here or London! I've got everything sorted out perfectly so that it'll be easy for us both"
I wasn't surprised. Melissa had always been practical. But it warmed me inside to think that she did all this for me..
"This one's on Mum's list!" Melissa said stopping outside a wedding dress store Snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Oh.. So Mum still does her lists does she? That's reassuring. So Monday's clean your room and Tuesdays.." I wondered aloud, the word 'Mum' tasting bitter on my tongue.
"She's just trying to help!" Melissa exclaimed angrily. I immediately felt guilty.
"As long as you don't let Harvey walk all over you like that!" I replied feeling overprotective of my sister.
Even when we were younger, despite Melissa being older and more responsible than me I always knew that deep inside she was fragile and unaware of what people were doing to her. Mum, was just one of these people.
Sometimes when Felix weren't around to look after us, I felt this sudden urge to look after Melissa. I stuck up for her in school, and when anyone made fun of her, I got really angry. Even though I didn't particularly like her, Melissa was after all my sister and even though she could really be as annoying as Mum, she still cared about and did nice things.
"I won't! Why are you doing this; having a go?" Melissa snapped.
"I'm just trying to help you! I was there, remember, when Mum made you join the choir, and you were chucking up before every lesson.." I said sadly.
Melissa shook her head and turned away, "You must have been dreaming!"
"No!" I replied, grabbing her arm,"You hated it. She made you do it!"
Melissa hesitated,"Good job too! I'm going to sing at my wedding!"
"What?" I asked bewildered.
"Mum thinks it'll be lovely!" Melissa beamed.
"What does Harvey think?" I asked remembering how rubbish Melissa had been at singing. Poor thing.
"He's going to do it too!" Melissa replied leaving me speechless. Well I didn't think it possible for my family to get any sloppier and weirder. I followed her into the shop.
"What sort of thing do you like?" Melissa asked me tottering about on her heels.
"I have absolutely no idea" I muttered before following Melissa and running my hands through the dresses.
Melissa replied to a shop assistant before turning to me,"Mum says it has to match with the flowers and the tablecloth."
"Ok and what colour are they..?" I asked warily.
"Peach!" Melissa said smiling.
"Right.." I muttered unhappily. This was going to be a long day...
"Ow ow ow ow!" I exclaimed struggling in the dressing room. The dress I was trying on had a beige top part and pink tutu skirt that was too tight and made me look like a hippo in a tutu. Literally.
I opened the door and showed Melissa.
"Mm.." she nodded politely even though both she and I knew it looked horrible.
Then Melissa gave me this long deep blue dress that hugged my figure. It wasn't too bad. But then Melissa gave me some satin white heels to wear with it and I ended up having to hold up my dress and try not to trip over and die.
The next dress was the worst. It was peach and frilly and had lots of layered bits of material and I needed Melissa's help to get into it. After a lot of groaning and moaning and arguing, I popped my head through.
After what seemed a gazillion dresses I changed back into my normal clothes and faced Melissa.
"The first one was pretty" Melissa commented.
"I'll have that one then" I replied not wanting to discuss dresses any further. I saw a blue flower hair clip lying on one of the tables and put it into my hair.
"Oh this goes with my hair!" I said looking in the mirror.
"Yeah about that...I really like it, don't get me wrong!" Melissa started.
"Good. Cos it's your wedding not Mum's" I replied.
"It's just.."
"Look I will do anything!" I begged "But this is staying". I fingered a lock of my blue tipped hair.
Melissa stared at my reflection and smiled, "OK, I'm sure you'll look really lovely whatever.."
I turned and smiled at her happily. At least she could see that my hair was part of who I was.
We bought the dress then went into a nearby cafe. We sipped on our tea at a table.
"I'm really glad you're doing this Mand! It means everything to have you there.." Melissa said and I smiled at her lovingly.
"Even better if you met Mum and Dad too.." she added.
"Well I'm going to aren't I?"
"I meant before the big day.." Melissa said,"You could come to the house for lunch. Harvey wants to meet you as well!"
I sighed, "I dunno"
"Mandy you've got to move on! I know you think Mum and Dad gave you a hard time.."
"They did.." I replied.
"But it was ages ago! They still love you Mand!" I could see Melissa forcing out the words. She was really missing me. But Mum and Dad weren't. Mum and Dad never loved me.
I looked away and put my feet up on the bench, trying to hide my watery eyes.
"Course they do!" Melissa exclaimed rubbing my leg comfortingly.
I snuck back into the DG trying to avoid the kids. Some of them were in the living room. I picked up my pace.
"Hey Elektra!" Carmen called and I quickly hid the bag behind the door.
"Did you get the dress?"
I lied. "Um no, I had to leave it at the shop for some err alterations"
"Or you just didn't want us to see it" Johnny pointed out smugly.
I groaned and walked off quickly to my room with the bag.
Once in my room I hurriedly put a chair against the door incase someone came in.
I put on the dress and stared at myself in the mirror. It was horrible. Urgh! Especially the fucking tiara..
"Give us your shamp.." Sapphire burst in through the door and stared horrified "Oh my daze!"
"Shut up and get out!" I yelled flustered and humiliated.
Sapphire just cracked up.
"I especially love the tiara!" Saph snorted "I mean this is Elektra right? You haven't got some part in some Christmas panto.."
"Have you ever seen a bridesmaids dress before?!" I shouted angrily backing into the corner of the room.
"Well yeah on a 5 year old maybe! Have you seen yourself?!" Saph exclaimed.
"My sister picked it out alright?" I told her failing to see the funny side.
"Well you need to stand up to her girl!"
"Cos you're so great at doing that aren't you?" I replied sarcastically, pointing out the fact that the council weren't giving her a new flat.
"At least I won't change myself for anyone! What are you tryna prove?" Saph replied. She had a point.
"It's a wedding it's what you're supposed to do" I replied sounding like Melissa.
"Ok so you're going to be a little princess and mummy and daddy are going to sweep you into their.."
"GET OUT AND GO BACK TO YOUR SOGGY FLAT!" I yelled angrily.
"I'm not allowed!" Saph fought back.
"Sapphire the Rebel" my voice dripped with sarcasm.
"What you think I wanna be back in this loserville?!" she replied and pulled on a frilly part of my dress, giggling as she headed back into her room.
I sat down in the kitchen miserable. Tee and Carmen got all interested in the wedding and had changed their names and started planning their weddings out.
Gus asked me a few questions.
"Will you be coming back?" He asked.
"Yeah course I will! I'm not gonna be running away at the service station.."
"No but you could go and live with your parents" Gus suggested.
"Yeah..that's gonna happen"
Tracy came in ready for the trip to visit my family.
"Why are you going on a visit?" Gus asked
"Yeah why are ya? Mandy" Johnny sniggered joining us.
I got up."She's just meeting her parents before the wedding there's lots to discuss.." Tracy answered for me.
"Yeah and get a life Johnny and stop being so obsessed with mine!" I told him whilst exiting.
Tracy got us to London fairly quickly by following the motorway but once she entered the posh suburb she got us lost.
"I knew I should have taken Mike with me!" I moaned when we turned around the roundabout for the seventh time.
"Sorry I was assuming you know the way home.." Tracy said.
"Home! I haven't been there since I was put into care.." I said realising.
After a long time I watched London whizz by out of the window. I perked up when I saw my old primary school, my old park and the local newsagents.
"Turn right" I told Tracy remembering my way home.
We arrived at the house tired from all the driving and fretting about.
"I used to dream of a house like this" Tracy sighed staring at my rich home.
"I used to dream of it being sucked up by a big black hole" I sighed.
The door opened while we were walking towards the house.
My dad came out first followed by my mum. They had both grown older. They smiled at me.
"Mandy.." My mother started happily.
"It's Elektra" I mumbled "This is.."
"Tracy. Hi" Tracy answered proudly. Tracy shook hands with Dad before being led inside.
Hey! I am so sorry that I haven't updated in a while but I hope you liked this chapter. I have been developing my ideas for this fanfiction and trying to make them really good and in the meantime have been writing other fanfiction. I can't promise I will keep updating regularly but I will try and add a few more chapters onto this fanfiction before my BIG IDEAS and turnaround of this story come into place.
I hope you understand that I don't want this fanfiction to be repetitive or a bit too cheesy in that sense. I just really want to create a lot of drama and action as well as the romance.
So please keep reading and don't give up on me yet! I will finish this fanfic no matter what!
