Hello everyone! So I finally got time to post which I'm very excited about because I probably won't get to for the next week or two. And because if anyone remembers Vinci's birthday is July 1st! (To be honest I remembered just a few hours ago). So I shoved this out because it has been half done for about a week and a half and I was like why not!

[Chapter 38]

The music played a slow waltz. It had a light tune and was easy to dance to, except for the couple in the room. Vinci huffed as she tried to match her steps with Xanxus, but he was far too tall and her feet hurt. "Xanxus can we please take a break?" Vinci asked as she stumbled trying to keep up with him.

Xanxus looked down at the girl in his arms and frowned. "We just took a break fifteen minutes ago. You need to learn this dance." He snapped stopping so she could breathe.

"But Xanxus it's impossible and besides my feet hurt. Why do I have to wear heels?" She asked crossing her arms over her chest.

"You aren't going to a fucking ball wearing flats. You'll learn to walk and dance in heels." He said.

"We've been at this for two hours already and I still can't get the hang of this. Why don't you just go to the ball alone? If I haven't learned this in a week what makes you think that I'll learn it in the next week and a half?" Vinci said looking at the floor.

The annual Vongola Christmas Ball was coming up and Xanxus had asked her (more demanded) to be his date. Knowing she wasn't going to be doing anything she accepted, however, if she knew she had to learn how to dance she would have declined. It wasn't that she couldn't dance, Vinci had good rhythm it was that it was impossible to dance with Xanxus.

He was far too demanding and over stepped his position in leading. He was practically dragging her around the floor. His steps were too wide for her to keep up and Xanxus hadn't even bothered to teach her the steps to begin with.

"I'm not going alone." He said glaring at her. Great now he was really mad at her.

"Xanxus I didn't-." The door opened and Carrie entered with a bored look on her face.

"Xanxus, Timoteo is asking for you." She stated waiting for him to come.

Xanxus gave Vinci one last look before leaving her in the room by herself. Feeling like everything was her fault she kicked off her heels and dropped down onto a chair next to the stereo. Why did she feel so useless? All he asked of her was to learn this stupid dance and she couldn't even do that much! Letting her head fall into her hands she sighed. This was going to be harder than she thought.

Looking towards the window she saw the sun shining with very few clouds in the sky. It was such a pretty day and if it wasn't for these dancing lessons, Vinci would be outside playing whatever game Susan wanted to play; and to be honest it sounded better than sitting in a chair. Vinci pushed some of her hair that fell out of her ponytail behind her ear and waited for Xanxus to get back.

"Where is he?" Vinci asked herself watching as the clock kept ticking away. It had been a good fifteen minutes and she was getting bored.

Suddenly a knock came to the door and without waiting for her to say anything it opened. Vinci stood up and Vongola's Cloud Guardian; Visconti, came in. Closing the door behind him, he looked up at her and gave her a small smile. "Vinci"

"Visconti what are you doing here?" Vinci asked walking over.

"I came here by the request of Nono." He said passing her a bowl and spoon he had in his hands. Vinci took it from him and looked at its contents.

"Um…Visconti" She started clearly confused. "Why do I have a bowl of ice cream?" She laughed nervously. "I mean don't get me wrong I love ice cream it's just that it doesn't make any sense to give it to me right now. Unless you wanted to give me ice cream…"

Visconti watched as she rambled on. Out of all the guardians, he had the best relationship with the young Vongola's girlfriend, as he was the one who spent the most time with her whether it was to get her from somewhere or just sitting with her as she watched Susan play in the gardens.

"What do you see in the bowl?" He asked interrupting her.

"Ice Cream" Vinci said looking up at the man in front of her.

"What kind of ice cream?"

"Chocolate and Vanilla swirl." Vinci said taking the spoon and taking only a part of the vanilla before shoving it into her mouth. "Though I only like vanilla. Chocolate is a little too much for me."

"Why do you think Nono would ask me to give you this type of ice cream?"

Vinci stared at the bowl in her hand. If the Vongola boss ordered Visconti to give a bowl of ice cream it had to be for a good reason. Tilting her head to the side, she bit her lip. "It has something to do with Xanxus and I doesn't it." Vinci stated.

"You tell me."

"Well…maybe Xanxus is the chocolate and I'm the vanilla?" Vinci glanced at Visconti but he just motioned her to continue. "And maybe the swirl is a way of stating that we need to work together?"

"Why do you think most people enjoy this type of swirl?" Visconti asked taking the spoon from her hand and started mixing the flavors in the bowl until she couldn't tell there were two separate flavors to begin with.

"It has a nice balance to it. It's a way of meeting right in the middle." Vinci said. Then it clicked in her head. "Is Nono trying to tell me that Xanxus and I have to meet in the middle to accomplish this dance?"

"Xanxus has always been stubborn and demanding so he over powers you to the point that you can't keep up. While Xanxus needs to realize he is pushing too hard, and you have to try a little harder to see where he is coming from." Visconti explained.

"I guess so, but I don't even have the steps down!" Vinci complained.

"That is why I am here as well." Visconti said holding out his hand. "Shall we dance?"

"What do you want old man?" Xanxus asked stepping into his father's office. Nono looked up from his desk and smiled at his son.

"I just want to talk to you for a minute." He said setting his pen down and leaned back into his chair. "There is a bowl by the table next to you. I want you to take it."

Xanxus grabbed the bowl and look at it. "I don't want ice cream."

"I'm not asking you to eat it I want you to think about something. It has come to my attention that you are having some trouble with your dance lessons." Nono stated.

"She can't keep up." Xanxus huffed grabbing the spoon where the bowl once was and started to eat.

"Xanxus, you and Vinci are a lot like the ice cream you're eating." Xanxus stopped and looked down at his bowl. "You both are completely different from one another. You are the chocolate and Vinci is the vanilla. If you wanted to you could over power her until she is nothing, and Vinci could over shadow you leaving you behind, but that would ruin the balance. Much like darkness and light there is a balance to everything." Nono explained.

"Stop talking in riddles old man." Xanxus snapped.

"Xanxus you need to slow down so that she can find a way to complete the balance. If you leave her behind without giving her the chance to catch up she'll never be able to complete the circle. Do you understand?"

"Are we done here?" Xanxus stated wanting to leave.

"You may go." Nono said.

Xanxus put the bowl back on the table and slammed the door on his way out. "I don't need help with my own girlfriend." He muttered to himself going down a flight of stairs and taking a left. He could hear the music coming from the door at the end of the hall and wondered what the hell she could be doing. Opening the door he stopped and glared.

Vinci jumped at the loud bang and turned to see Xanxus glared at Visconti. "What the fuck are you doing here?"

"Xanxus!" Vinci scolded.

"Simply helping Vinci with her form." Visconti said to him before turning back to Vinci. "Remember to keep your back straight and hold eye contact the whole time."

Vinci nodded and watched as Visconti grabbed the now empty bowl and left leaving her and Xanxus alone. "So what did your father need?" Vinci asked trying to escape whatever trouble she might have landed herself in.

"Nothing important." Xanxus said before pulling her over and placing a hand on her waist. "Now lets get this lesson done."

"Vinci!"

The young girl turned away from the conversation Xanxus was having with a man to see Livia making her way over to her. Vinci took this time to leave Xanxus' side and say hello. "Livia I didn't know you were invited?"

"I thought you knew, that idiot must not have told you." Livia said glaring at the back of Xanxus' head.

"Must the two of you hate each other so much?" Vinci stated.

"We can't help it." Livia said with a shrug. "But I did get to see you dance! You did so well I didn't know you could dance like that."

"Well I had some time to learn." Vinci laughed nervously.

They talked for several minutes from topics like marriage to meeting old friends of Vongola. Vinci complained about all the names she'll never remember, and the fact that they all knew hers. Apparently Nono couldn't stop telling his friends about the girl his son was involved with.

"What the fuck are you doing with her?" Vinci looked over her shoulder to see Xanxus walked over with a look of disgust on his face.

"Am I not allowed to hang out with my friends?" Vinci asked feeling him wrap an arm around her waist.

"Just not her." Xanxus said glaring at Livia.

Livia just flipped him off. "Please she'd be better off with me than you." She snapped.

Vinci grabbed the back of Xanxus' jacket to hold him back from killing Livia in the middle of the ballroom. "Xanxus this isn't the time nor the place." Vinci whispered tugging to get his attention.

"I'll kill that piece of trash when she isn't looking just you wait." He sneered watching as Livia takes out her phone.

"Now smile the both of you! I want to document this beautiful moment so in the future when Vinci and I are married I can rub this is Xanxus' face because he's so fucking lonely." Livia laughed holding the phone up to her face.

Vinci could see Xanxus withholding the urge to kill Livia, so she brushed off anything that could be on the material of her blue dress that Xanxus had gotten her and wrapped her arm around Xanxus. Feeling him respond to her, she looked into the camera and smiled.

"You look so cute Vinci, on the other hand you could have someone more appealing with you."

"You have five seconds to run before I fucking kill you."
