Chapter Thirty-Five: The Pendulum Swings Part 5
[Byakuya's & Kat's Room]
[Kat's POV]
I suddenly jerk awake, quickly sitting up, panting heavily I look around the empty room in confusion. I squint my tired eyes trying to clear away the blurriness, the events leading up to tonight quickly coming back like a flood. I gasp shock, looking around the room alarm. Byakuya was nowhere in sight.
"Meeting…" I mumble in distress, lace with drowsiness.
I desperately kick off my blankets, stumbling towards the door through the dark room. It didn't help that my legs feel like jelly; I wouldn't make anywhere at this rate. Barely making it to the door my knees suddenly gave out. I groan out in pain, my knees hitting the floor, using my hands I broke my fall before falling completely. My messy hair fell over my face, covering half of it. I pant heavily trying to remember why I felt so weak.
The events from Kisuke's office came to back to me. I groan, cursing silently, 'Damnit Kisuke.'
I reach for the door, sliding it open slightly. I weakly crawl towards it quietly peering out the door. I notice it's already dark outside, the moon giving off a soft dim glow of light. I glance down the hallways surprise that Byakuya didn't place guards outside my door. Sighing in relief I weakly grab onto the wood frame of the door, grunting loudly I put all of my strength into my arms pulling myself up. Finally standing up completely I look around the empty Manor fretfully.
'What am I going to do?! I need to save everyone!' I thought petrify. 'Byakuya isn't going to help, I just know it. Kisuke or even Yoruichi would help! But, they are too far away from the Kuchiki Manor for me to make it over there in my condition.' I growl angrily, tighten my grip on the frame until my knuckles turn bright white.
Suddenly I straighten myself out when I realize something, 'Eita! Eita will help me! Eita is probably still under house arrest and he lives right here in the Kuchiki's grounds!' I thought determinedly, gazing towards the direction I knew the spare guest house was at. I weakly made my way towards Eita's house; stumbling a couple of times and falling twice, but I finally made it. I silently kneel behind some bushes when I notice two guards standing guard outside of his house, groaning inwardly not knowing how I was going to get through them.
'Of course Eita would have guards.' I silently cruse as I thought of way to distract the guards.
Suddenly I hear loud shouts of concern and panic coming from the main house, "Lady Shihoin has left her room!" the loud shouts echo through the compound.
The two guards standing outside of Eita's house quickly left their post to go find me. Once I saw they were a good distance away I stumble out of the bushes quickly running to the front door.
Slamming the front door open, I ran into the main room, "EITA!" I shout hysterically, panting from my brief run. "EITA!" I shout again into the dark house.
Eita suddenly runs out from one of the nearby rooms and looks at me shock and concern. He quickly walks over to me holding me by the shoulders.
"Kat? Kat what are you doing here? How did you even get pass the kido barrier?!" Eita questions confuse, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
I look at him slightly relief, he seems more relax and compose compare to earlier. He also seems to have a different feel to his attitude.
"Kat, answer me. Are you ok, what's going on?" he demands sternly, tightening his grip on my shoulders a little, his anxious icy blue eyes staring me.
I took a deep breath licking my dry lips, "You need to help me Eita. Aizen…Aizen is going to kill them!" I finally yell scare, I could feel the tears pooling around my eyes. They burn harshly against the edges of my eyes, threatening to slip out.
"Kat, claim down, you aren't making any sense." Eita made an annoy sound, tighten his grip a little on my shoulders. "Aizen is a Vice Captain, just like me, he would never harm anybody." He tries to assure me, firmly, but I don't believe him.
"You're wrong! He's behind all the missing people and the soul reapers! He's about to kill Hiyori, Shinji and everyone who was sent out tonight to investigate the disappearances!" I scream desperately, trying to make him believe me. I then glance away from Eita, feeling ashamed for using this against him. I know what I'm about to say is playing dirty, but it's the only way I know for sure he'll help me. "He also killed Atsushi." I whisper shamefully, still not being able to look at him.
'I wasn't sure exactly why Aizen kill him, but I'm sure it was him.' I thought dejectedly.
"What?" Eita questions stun, I could feel his murderous aurora radiating off of him. "Kat, look at me!" he demands bitterly, shaking me roughly. "Don't say shit that isn't true, Kat! Don't go around accusing people without proof! Especially when you know fucking well what I plan to do to Atsushi's murderer!" he shouts resentfully, shaking me again, forcing me to look at him.
I glance at him sadly, his eyes are furious but I can see the tears forming.
"I'm sorry…but I know he has something to do with Atsushi's death." I reply quietly, letting a couple of tears slip down. "Eita, do you trust me?" I ask him solemnly, looking at him seriously.
He just stares at me unresponsively, until he finally hisses annoy, looking at me somberly, "Byakuya and you are the only people I can trust with my life." He finally admits quietly.
Sighing in frustration he lets go of me running his hand through his hair aggressively as he turns around.
"Listen, there is so much you don't know about me, but there isn't time to explain right now." I state firmly, looking at him seriously. "I just need you to trust me. I know what's going to happen. I'm positive about Aizen's betrayal. He's going to kill everyone who was sent out tonight for backup." I explain determinedly, wiping a couple of my tears away. "Please Eita, help me." I beg my best friend, my brother, because that is what he was to me, a brother. "You are like a brother to me, I know I can count on you for anything, please" I urge anxiously, desperately. "I'm sorry I try to use your emotions for my benefit, I shouldn't have done that. I wouldn't hurt you out of spite." I whisper softly, looking at his back regretfully.
It was quiet for what seem like forever, suddenly he glances at me over his shoulder with a determine look.
"I know where squad 10 was sent earlier today to investigate, we should be able to find their spirit force from there." He explains somberly, turning to look at me. "Let's go before the guards return." Eita states firmly, walking over to his couch he grabs his zanpakuto, placing it on his hip securely.
He silently walks towards the door, suddenly stopping, he simply stares out the open door grimly. Slowly he places his hand onto the open doorway, red looking like lightning harshly shocks his hand away from it.
"Damnit, kido barrier." He hisses angrily.
Rubbing his aching hand he then glances at me thoughtfully. His eyebrows furrow in confusion as he continues to stare at me.
"What? Can't you destroy it?" I ask confuse, feeling uncomfortable under his strange gaze.
"Try walking out Kat." Eita orders bluntly.
"Huh? What are you talking about? If you can't get through it, neither can I." I reply annoy at the fact he is wasting time with stupid ideas like this.
"That's the thing Kat. You got in here with no problem." Eita comments frankly, pointing at the barrier. "This barrier doesn't let anybody in or out. So, explain it Kat, how did you get in?" he questions me curtly, lowering his hand back to his side.
I look at him stun, realizing that he's right. I just simply walk in through that door like nothing. I took small attentive steps towards the doorway. Standing in front of the door, I nervously reach out to the door just like Eita. But, surprisingly unlike Eita, nothing happen to me. I stare at my hand in amazement.
'Here I was thinking there was nothing special about me…but this…' I thought amaze, clinching my hand tightly at the thought of powers.
Eita suddenly grab my other hand pulling us through the door. We both walk out of there like nothing, he didn't get shock like last time. Once outside Eita let go of my hand and stare at me astonish, he didn't seem to understand how I did it either.
He finally sigh annoy, "We'll figure this out later, right now we need to go save everyone." He states seriously, but still looks at me thoughtfully.
"Ok" I whisper softly, nodding my head in agreement as we ran off into the deadly quiet night.
[Byakuya's & Kat's Room]
[Nobody's POV]
Byakuya stood in the doorway, staring into the empty room angrily, his fist clinching tightly in anger as guilt slightly consume him as well.
He should've of stayed he thought irritably.
His dull slate gray eyes glare at nothing in particular. A guard suddenly appear beside him, bowing in respect.
"Lord Kuchiki, Vice-Captain Harada has also disappear from his resident's." the guard inform Byakuya seriously.
Byakuya tighten his fist even more if possible until they were white as snow.
"Find them." Byakuya snarl angrily. He couldn't risk the two most important people to him getting hurt over something as stupid as revenge.
"Yes sir." The guard reply flash stepping away to inform the rest of the guards.
Byakuya glance one last time into the room before walking to the main entrance. As he approach the door his grandfather suddenly appear blocking his way. Byakuya sneer as grandfather, glaring at him angrily to let him through.
"I know what you are thinking Byakuya, but you mustn't." Ginrei states firmly, he wasn't advising him, he was ordering him. "You will not go after them, we have orders from the head Commander. If you disobey his orders your actions will be consider as treason. Do you understand Byakuya?" Ginrei explains, sternly questioning his grandson. He finally narrows his eyes strictly at young Byakuya.
Byakuya knew his grandfather was right, he has responsibilities and duties as the heir to the Kuchiki family, and he mustn't bring shame to his clan name.
Byakuya angrily bow his head in defeat, "What am I supposed to then?" he questions his grandfather distraughtly.
"Trust in their power. Eita and Catalina are both strong people, they'll be back before you know it." Ginrei states evenly, sympathetically looking at his broken grandson. "I'll personally see to that their punishment isn't sever." Ginrei assure him firmly, placing a hand on his shoulder.
[Somewhere Around the Rukon District]
[Kat's POV]
Eita flash steps through the dark forest while carrying me on his back. He had put me on his back once he realize the weaken state I was in. I couldn't keep up with his pace. I silently stare off into the nothing feeling my heart pounding loudly in the back of my ears, as we got closer to Aizen and everyone else. Neither of us has spoken a words since we left the Kuchiki Manor. I guess the tension was too thick to break with anything at the moment.
'I hope we aren't too late.' I thought miserably.
Eita abruptly stops running, gently he lets go of my legs as he securely places me down on my feet. He quickly turns to look at me seriously, I could see the faint look of dread in his eyes.
"What's wrong?" I question concern.
Something wasn't right, I could feel a dark ominous sensation sweeping over my stomach.
"I need you to wait here." He orders me somberly.
I watch him glance over his shoulder, he stares darkly into the distance, his eyebrows furrowing in annoyance.
"What?! No! I'm going with you!" I yell angrily, taking a few steps towards him.
"No." he snaps intensely, he turns to look at me concern. "If something happens to you Byakuya would never forgive me." Eita states seriously, his stern icy blue eyes freeze me in place. "Mostly everybody's but Shinji's spirit force have disappear and been replace with a very sinister feeling spirit force. I can't risk something happening to you, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something happens to you." He explains bluntly.
I just stare at him disbelief. I felt my heart drop when he said he felt sinister spirit forces, 'We were too late.' I thought remorsefully, sniffling quietly, trying hard to hold back my sorrowful tears.
I silently nod, letting him go and just like that Eita flash step away.
I stood there devastated. 'We were too late.' was the only thing that echo through my thoughts. I clinch my hands into tight fists and glare into the direction Eita went. Finally making up my mind I sprint off into the direction Eita ran off into. A dark and dreadful feeling slowly starts to spread through me as I slowly approach the area where everyone was at.
I slowly approach the silent area, but abruptly stop when I broke through some bushes into a wide field. I gasp horrify at the site, I quickly cover my open mouth with my hand, holding back my loud sobs. All of my friends' bodies were scatter all over the field, it was ghastly. I carefully took a couple more steps into the center of the field.
"Eita, you idiot, what are you doing here?!" I hear Shinji roar angrily.
I look up tearfully, clinching my hands tightly to my chest as I stare at Shinji's gruesome body. He seem to be the only one still on his feet, but barely. The white horrendous looking stuff was slowly covering the rest of his face. I felt the tears slipping down my face as my heart sank.
'I was too late…' I thought guilty.
"AIZEN!" I suddenly hear Eita shout angrily.
I look around the field for Eita fretfully. Finally I found him standing right in front Shinji and a couple of inches away from Aizen. One of his hands tightly clinch onto the side of his stomach. I gasp, seeing the bright red blood oozing out from in between his fingers. The droplets of blood softly staining the green grass to crimson.
"Eita…" I sob distress.
I slowly walk towards him, not really thinking through my actions anymore. All I knew was that Eita was in trouble. I quicken my pace the dark ominous feeling returning as I got closer. A startle gasp of horror left my lips as I watch Aizen swing his zanpakuto at Eita. I wasn't walking anymore, I was running now. I watch Aizen's zanpakuto slash Eita across the chest, blood splatter everywhere. I abruptly stop a couple of feet away from them, my legs giving away, falling onto my knees, as I watch his body fall to the ground.
"EITA!" I scream horrify, stumbling onto my feet again.
I slowly got closer, until I was finally standing over his bloodily body. I weep silently, watching the blood slowly seep out from underneath him, pooling heavily around him. Slowly it spread towards me, reaching the tips of my feet. I just stare at my best friend, bleeding out, and there was nothing I could do. More tears start to slip out and suddenly it's like a damn I can't control.
'Why must I be weak?! Why can't I help?!' I thought miserably.
"Kat…run…" I hear someone speak weakly from beside me.
I turn to my side staring at Shinji hopelessly, my hot tears streaming down my pale cheeks.
Shinji stood their weakly, barely able to stand, "KAT RUN!" he yells seriously.
I stare at him despairingly. Every fiber of my mind is telling me to listen to him and to run. But my body doesn't seem to listen.
Then it happen so fast, one second I was find and the next I'm screaming out in pain. I felt a sharp agonizing pain coming from my lower back. I slowly look over my shoulder, gasping terrify at the sight of Aizen standing there, his blade piercing into my back. He swiftly pushes it deeper, making me scream louder, my knees finally buckle as the pain becomes too unbearable.
"You shouldn't have come Kat-chan." Aizen states calmly, yanking his zanpakuto roughly out from my back.
My body slowly starts to feel numb and weightless, my fall to the ground seems to go in slow motion but I knew better. I fell to the cool ground with a loud thump, feeling my blood gushing out from my wound.
'I'm going to die…' I thought tearfully, my blurry eyesight stare at Eita, watching him bleed out. I could feel the once loud pounding of my heart slowly start to slow down. Everything was slowly fading to dark, 'I'm so sorry Byakuya.' I thought sadly.
"I love you…." I breathe out barely above a whisper, letting the dark abyss consume me.
'Kat…don't give up…you aren't alone.' A soft voice urge me, echoing faintly through my slowly fading mind.
But I was too far gone.
[Nobody's POV]
Aizen stare sinisterly at Kat's and Eita's lifeless body.
"You bastard! What have you done?!" Shinji screams outrage, the white gruesome stuff quickly taking another part of his face because of his anger.
"Don't worry Captain, you'll join them soon enough." Aizen comments darkly, a dark smile spreading across his lips.
Aizen then glances at Kat confuse. He could feel a faint source of spirit force coming from her, it wasn't there before. His eyes narrow in confusion and interest as a dark purple spirit force starts to leak out of Kat. Before he could do anything to stop it, the dark purple spirit force quickly wraps around Kat and Eita. Quickly sinking their bodies into the ground where a dark purple hole has slowly appear. As they slowly disappear into the dark hole, Aizen narrow his eyes in dark interest at the new development of power in Kat.
Finally once the purple hole disappear the only thing that remind of Kat and Eita were their pools of blood.
"Kat…Eita…?" Shinji question shock.
Kat and Eita slowly emerge into a purple abyss. Their bloodily bodies floating silently in dark abyss of nothing. Kat's flower bracelet suddenly starts to glow a bright rainbow color, each petal glowing brighter. Glowing bright blue water slowly spills out from Kat's bracelet, gently wrapping around them, forming a bright blue cocoon. Their once deadly wounds slowly start to fade away as the blue water slowly retreats back into the bracelet.
[Byakuya's & Kat's Room]
[Nobody's POV]
Byakuya sat on the edge of his bed, his hair a mess, and his eyes bloodshot red.
He sorrowfully looks down at his open palm where a single item lay.
'Lord Kuchiki, I´m sorry to inform you, but Catalina Shihion and Eita Harada were murder last night by Ex. Captain of the 12th Division Kisuke Urahara.' Captain Ukitake's anguish voice echoes faintly in the back of Byakuya's mind.
Byakuya glares angrily at the ground recalling to when he had demanded to see her body.
'I´m afraid that's impossible Lord Kuchiki. Catalina's and Eita's body haven't been found but the blood found has been confirm to be theirs. Also, this was found within the blood.' Jushiro explains miserably and silently hands Byakuya a small object.
Byakuya stares at Catalina's bloodily engagement ring. He closes his hand angrily, tightly holding onto her ring heartbroken.
Guilt, anger and despair were the only things Byakuya could feel at the moment.
He didn't just lose his best friend. He also lost the woman he loved. The two things he love most are gone.
It wasn't fair.
Byakuya sat there feeling a couple of tears spill out.
"I love you Catalina." Byakuya whisper devastated.
While Kat's and Eita's friends and love ones mourn their death. Their serene bodies remind suspended in midair, floating in the dark purple abyss. But while they remind in their deep sleep, time slowly started to move forward in the present world.
Hours turn to days.
Days turn to weeks.
Weeks turn to months
Finally months turn to years.
As the years pass Kat and Eita remind in suspended animation, never aging, frozen in time, frozen in the dark abyss.
Until finally one day…
