Chapter39: Quidditch World Cup

August 1994
England: Dartmoor
Quidditch World Cup Campsite

After surprisingly finding a Horcrux belonging to Voldemort at Grimmauld Place, it was quickly turned over to Lorelei and the rest of the Unspeakables. They soon started to experiment on it in order to acquire more information about destroying them and hopefully locate the rest of them. So far progress had been slow but the man in charge of the task—Professor Waver Velvet—had been most eager to continue his 'interrogation' of the Locket Horcrux.

No one was sure how to feel about that…

On one hand it was a piece of Voldemort that was basically being tortured and on the other hand it was torture they were talking about. None of the Fuyuki group were comfortable with that but after the whole Albanian War and the attacks on Hogwarts, everyone knew that they needed to hunt the snake bastard down and kill him in order to stop him from potentially bringing about the end of the world itself. That monster had nearly destroyed the world once before and the only reason they all survived was because of Lily Potter's final act of defiance. Everyone just prayed that they could stop him before Alaya decided that enough was enough and deployed her Counter Guardians to deal with the issue threatening the human race.

Shirou idly wondered if Archer was waiting for them to screw up just so he could laugh at them…

Anyway after that they received word that Britain was hosting the nest Quidditch World Cup and had decided to go. Actually it was more like Sirius had dragged them to it now that he was mostly recovered from his illegal imprisonment in Azkaban and wanted to watch some good old fashioned Quidditch with his godson. Naturally it resulted in everyone else being dragged along too, even Sakura and Rider whom usually stayed in Fuyuki.

They said that they all needed a real vacation…

"Why are we here again?" Illya asked the question. "I don't even like Quidditch."

"Blame Hari," Astoria replied with a smile. "Sirius is his godfather after all."

"Oi, oi, oi, I'm not the one to blame for this," Hari countered dryly sending her a mock glare. "Out of everyone here you're the Quidditch fanatic."

"I am not," Astoria denied.

"I've seen your room Astoria," Hari deadpanned. "You've got piles of Quidditch magazines and posters everywhere."

"Yes…well…" Astoria trailed off sheepishly.

"I rest my case," Hari bowed dramatically in conclusion as if nothing else needed to be said.

"Hari on baka," Astoria huffed and turned away.

"Your Japanese is getting better without the earrings," Hari commented.

"I've been practicing," Astoria grinned back knowing exactly what she had just said.

"And I've been helping her," Illya spoke up with a wide smile. "I've learned to be patient with her."

"I wasn't that bad," Astoria denied sharply.

Her sister may have picked up the Japanese language rather quickly but Astoria had always had problems holding a decent conversation without the earrings to translate for her. Eventually she had asked Illya for some help since the lone Einzbern originally lived in Germany and had learned Japanese herself later. She was also a pretty good teacher though it was freaky as hell since they were physically about the same age as each other.

"Hey, you three!" a shout from the side drew their attention. "What are you doing just standing around like that?" Daphne questioned. "We still have to put up the tent and everything!"

"The tent?" Illya blinked in confusion before her eyes lit up. "I knew we forgot something."

"You forgot?" Daphne asked and looked around at the campsite around them. "Have you taken a look around lately?"

There were tents everywhere for crying out loud!

"Erm…" Illya trailed off before shrugging.

"Lay off sis," Astoria told her. "This is supposed to be a vacation, remember?"

"And it will be once the tent is set up," Daphne responded.

"Where are the others?" Hari asked the eldest of the Greengrass sisters.

"They're setting up the tent right now," Daphne answered with a cold smile. "Something that you all should be helping out with."

'She's starting to smile like Rin these days,' Hari thought now sweating quite a lot. 'I hope that she's not been taking lessons from her.'

Oh Hari all hope is already lost…

Setting up the tent proved more exhausting than anyone originally thought and Rin had nearly destroyed it in frustration half way. When Sirius had bought it in Diagon Alley, the salesman hadn't bothered to put in an instruction manual or anything in the deal and the space-manipulation charms were half-assed at best. In the end Rin and Sakura were forced to rely on their usage of the Kaleidoscope to expand the tents internal structure in order to replace the faulty expansion charms already in place.

Needless to say Rin was very displeased with the salesman…

"Damn," Sirius grunted as they entered the stands around the stadium. "The security in this place is ridiculous."

"Well after the mess with Fudge, Malfoy, Umbridge and the Dementors, the last thing Britain needs right now is another international incident. So the extra security isn't that surprising," Rin reasoned knowingly. After all that, Britain's image in the magical world wasn't really the best though the war in Albania had certainly helped with no small thanks to Alastor Moody and Dan Blackmore. Those two were both given Order of Merlins because of their actions during the Albanian War

"This is amazing," Sakura whispered as she looked out over the massive stadium. "There was never anything like this in the old world."

When the collapse occurred the Gaia that governed the Wizarding World absorbed the Gaia from their world and as such wand-magic became the most commonly used form of magic in the new world. Gaia still tried to crush any unnatural effect that wizards and witches did when they cast spells, but the 'force' of its attempts to crush it was a lot less than before. Wand-magic also had a more variety of spell-craft and was far more widely performed than Magecraft which was hoarded away by certain families.

The amount of work and effort put into building this stadium and gathering this many wizards and witches was unheard of in the old Magus Association. It was times like these that the Fuyuki group were relieved when the Association was erased from existence and replaced with the Unspeakables because most Magi would have already kidnapped some of the people here, especially those that were only part human or non-human.

All so that they could get just a bit closer to the Root of Existence of course…

"Ah Amelia," Sirius smiled as they approached the British Minister of Magic. "You're here too, what a coincidences."

"Spare me the usual banter Black," Amelia Bones shot back sharply. "I'm here to enjoy myself, not listen to your ridiculous pickup lines."

"That's harsh Amy," Sirius grinned back.

"Not harsh enough you old dog," Amelia snorted rather unladylike and then turned her attention to the others. "Are you going to introduce me or what?"

"Of course," Sirius waved off her demanding comments and then gestured to the rest of the Fuyuki group one by one. "Allow me to introduce my godson, Harry Potter though he prefers the name Hari Emiya."

"Oh?" Amelia asked raising an eyebrow slightly while doing so. "I'd heard that he'd been adopted and was now living in Japan with his adopted brother and sister."

"That would be us," Illya spoke up gesturing to herself and Shirou. "I am Illyasviel von Einzbern."

"Shirou Emiya," the white-haired man nodded in greeting.

"You're well informed to know about his adoption," Rin commented. "Not many outside of Japan know much of anything."

"I need to be well informed," Amelia responded shortly as she looked over at the dark-haired woman. "And you are?"

"This is Rin Tohsaka," Sirius introduced. "And her sister Sakura Tohsaka."

"Forgive me for saying this but you don't look anything like each other," Amelia mused looking from one to the other.

"I was adopted into the Matou family for a while," Sakura smiled warmly though no one present could suppress the shiver that ran down their spines at her words. "I've recently retaken the Tohsaka name."

Amelia did suppress the flinch at the implications of the purple-haired woman's words, and what was being left unsaid. In other words she was clearly cast out of her family by her Head of House and blood-adopted by another Wizarding family that didn't treat her very kindly. The blood-adoption would account for the differing features between her and her sister, as well as the strange magic that was drifting off slightly from the purple-haired woman.

This 'Sakura' person didn't even seem to notice the excess magical energy she was giving off either…

'This woman is dangerous,' Amelia realised as she examined the purple-haired woman more closely.

She prided herself on being a good judge of character—something that was needed for a witch in her position—and right now her instincts were telling her to run away from this woman as fast as she could. There was something about her that wasn't right, something that was dark and unpredictable like a monster lurking beneath the surface of an otherwise harmless flower. The amount of raw magic leaking through the woman's self-control was roughly what the average witch or wizard was capable of generating and that was rather disturbing in its own right.

She would have to be watched closely from now on...

"Who is that?" Illya asked as the Bulgarian team flew up from the ground below.

"Victor Krum," Astoria answered with an awed look. "He's like, the greatest Seeker in the world right now," for some reason her comment annoyed Hari though he couldn't figure out why but he suddenly felt the barely controllable need to start glaring at the Bulgarian Seeker.

'I can take him,' Hari thought as he watched the brute fly around like he owned the place. 'Maybe if I encase him in ice.'

Suddenly a strange almost seductive feeling hit them as the mascots for the Bulgarian team stepped out onto the field and started dancing. They were Veela by the looks of them, a non-human race known for their stunningly beautiful appearance and their natural aura that made lesser men fall to pieces. Thankfully the three males of the Fuyuki group were able to resist the effects, something that was ridiculously difficult to do but between the Reality Marbles that Shirou and Hari had as well as Sirius' still lingering Dementor-exposure, they were able to shrug it off.

Barely…

The final match of the Quidditch World Cup ended with Ireland's victory and Bulgaria's defeat much to Hari's barely restrained glee. He didn't really like Krum that much and hadn't even actually met the bloke yet. It wouldn't have been so bad a loss for the Bulgarian team if it wasn't for the fact that their mascot Veela and the Leprechaun mascots of Ireland had fought each other on the field during the match. It got so bad that Amelia was forced to order a dozen Aurors onto the field in order to subdue them and escort them both out of the stadium to restore order.

It was a hell of a game…

Thaddeus Nott was a 'former' Death Eater and the current head of the Noble House of Nott. After the fall of the Fudge Administration and the 'tragic' deaths of the Malfoy family, Thaddeus took the reigns as the leader of the dark families on the Wizengamot. However all was not well and they lived in difficult times. Mudbloods infested their world and with that bitch Amelia Bones as the new Minister, putting the disgusting creatures in their place was all but impossible these days.

He'd heard vague reports that their beloved master—Lord Voldemort—was still alive and was biding his time in order to return and finish bringing about the golden age that was stopped by Harry Potter nearly fourteen years ago. It was only a matter of time until he returned and when that time came, Thaddeus would be there to answer his call. He only prayed that the Dark Lord would forgive him for not searching for him after the last war ended otherwise he wouldn't like what Lord Voldemort would do to him.

When he'd received word that Britain was hosting the Quidditch World Cup—and if rumours were true the Triwizard Tournament too—Thaddeus immediately got tickets to it for himself and his son. He was later disgusted to see not only half-breeds and Mudbloods in the area but also muggles as well. The very thought of allowing those creatures into their world was enough for Thaddeus and his former Death Eater comrades to drown themselves in fire-whiskey.

Naturally that led them to having a bit of fun…

They slipped on their Death Eater robes and proceeded to head out into the campsite where they promptly started setting fire to everything. They laughed as the rabble around them started to scream and flee away from them, recognizing them. The Aurors running security at the time were weak and unskilled thanks to Malfoy's manipulations over the past decade and so they were easily dealt with. The Death Eaters then took their time humiliating the muggle filth by levitating them into the air and frightening them by dropping them every now and then.

Sadly for them their fun was about to end…

"Freeze: Spikes," a voice spoke up from the side as dozens of ice spikes formed in the air above them. "Launch."

"Protego!" Thaddeus through himself backwards as he brought his wand up to conjure a shield.

The others weren't so lucky; the spikes of ice descended upon them and bombarded the unshielded Death Eaters. They were torn apart under the assault, screaming as the spike ripped through them and left them as nothing more than a company of buddies lying motionless on the ground impaled. Thaddeus stared in horror at the sight of his noble comrades being butchered in such a way and hastily turned his wand on the source of the attack.

"You missed one!" another voice shouted from the opposite direction. "Reducto!" a blue bolt of magic shot at him and he rolled out of the way. It was a girl and judging by the looks of her, she seemed to be one of the Greengrass brats that Lucius was trying to get a hold of before his death.

"Crucio!" Thaddeus snarled as he hurled a curse at the girl.

"Freeze: Wall," the initial attacker incanted as he seemingly apparated in front of the girl and created a wall of ice between them to absorb the curse.

Ice elemental magic?

Thaddeus didn't know a wizard that used something like that on a large scale like this…

"Avada Kedavra!" Thaddeus roared as he fired off a killing curse. The curse struck the ice-wall a moment later, smashing it to bits but unable to do anything more than that. The killing curse could break through almost any kind of magical defence however the wall was made of ice, not magic. It was solid ice and as such was able to physically stop the curse from reaching those behind it.

"Now Daphne!" he heard the girl yell.

"Reducto," came the whisper from behind him.

He didn't even have time to evade before the curse struck his back and his body simply broke apart.

"I think that's the last of them," Hari sighed in relief.

"Daphne?" Astoria asked her suddenly pale sister. "Are you okay? They didn't hurt you or anything, right?"

"Oh Merlin," Daphne whispered as she tried to calm herself. "I just killed someone."

"Daphne, look at me," Hari told her and she did so. "He would have killed us, and you protected us."

"R-right," Daphne shakily nodded in response.

She'd never killed anyone before…

"Morsmordre!" a voice echoed across the ruined campsite and a moment later a large image of a sickly green skull and snake appeared in the sky. They looked towards where the voice came from and saw a figure standing not too far away. Before they could do anything though, the apparated away and disappeared from view.

"Damn it!" Astoria cursed loudly. "We missed one!"

"What is that?" Hari asked looking up at the floating ethereal skull and snake.

"That's the Dark Mark," Astoria answered knowing her sister couldn't right now. "It's Riddle's calling card."
