Kate's Diary
Mom,
Your grandson is beautiful. I wish you could see him. I wish you could hold him. I wish he could have known you. More than that, I wish you could have met everyone. Rick and Alexis and Martha. This crazy family I married into. I thought at first I wanted nothing to do with any of them, now I can't imagine my life without them.
Martha takes care of Jimmy some, Alexis does too. But she says that she is just practicing for her own. Her girl is actually due…wow in just about two weeks from now.
Rick is absolutely the best father a woman could want for her child. Rick helps give him a bath. He feeds Jimmy. He even changes dirty diapers. Rick is totally a Mr. Mom
This life is so different than the one I once saw for my future. You know, alone, single, married to my job.
OH speaking of my job. I started studying for the bar. Rick said even if I don't actually practice law, you know have my own firm or be in a partnership, I can still be council or…Rick says I can run for District Attorney. With my experience in law enforcement he said I will be a dangerous prosecutor. I need to think about that one a little more
But Rick says I don't have to work. I'm with him now and I don't need to work. I asked him if he is my sugar daddy. He does give me a lot of sugar in life as sweet as he has been to me. And understand me when it say this. I plan to be as sweet to him as he is to me. Or more!
There is only one thing missing in my life right now and it is a little personal. Our nightly private parties. Just Castle and me. But the doctor said we can resume those things very soon. I am looking forward to that and I know he is too
I avoided this part of my story but I need to tell it. Mom, I have waited telling you this, but Castle's father is the man responsible for me getting justice for you. Jackson Hunt is a covert agent of some kind. He won't talk about it but his unit of assets tracked down the man responsible for your death and my father-in-law brought justice to you and dozens more. But I have to say that having him in the family worries me some. I have fears of something in his past rearing its ugly head and raining down fire on my loved ones.
I hear Jimmy crying. I think it's his feeding time so I need to go see to his needs. I'll write more later.
Kate gets off the couch and moves in the direction of her crying baby boy. Just when she arrives at the nursery entrance the crying subsides. She peeks in the door to see her husband picking up the baby and cradling him in his arms. He also hears a soft soothing sing song coming from Rick. Daddy walks over to the rocking chair, holding a bottle and he sits down and begins to feed the hungry infant.
Kate enters the doorway then leans into the door jam "I told you that there was no way I would make you take care of our baby alone" She smiles to her husband
"I know but I thought you could still use some rest. There is plenty of time for this" He points toward the now quiet child
"I want to feed him" Kate tells Rick as she gets closer to the pair
Castle stands up while not letting the bottle slip out and allows Kate to sit on the rocker. He places their baby into Kate's arms and the moves over to the other chair in the room and sits down to watch.
"He's a little miracle" Kate comments while looking at the small face drawing formula from the bottle
"He's our little miracle. But Kate…" Rick waits until she looks up to his face "This life of us together is a miracle. You and me and Jimmy and all of this" Rick waves his hand around the room
"Kate. I love you and the miracle of all of this"
"I love you more"
Kate is positive she sees Rick's eyes glass over

Deputy Chief Katherine Beckett-Castle has returned to work after a 90 day maternity leave. She did not want to leave her baby and her husband but she wanted to get back to her second love. The love that was in-line behind her family and that love was bringing criminals to justice.
Fortunately she works with the finest team in law enforcement, the officers of the NYPD and in her absence a lot of criminals were captured and placed behind bars
When she arrives back in her office at One PP her first appointment on her docket was the mayor. He dropped by to see if she needed anything and to welcome her back to active duty
"Chief Castle, Mayor Weldon starts "I am so gland to have my best beck on duty. How is that baby of yours doing?"
"Very well Mr. Mayor Thank You for asking. Rick is staying on duty as dad to make sure that he spoils that boy rotten"
"Knowing Ricky, I am sure that will be happening. So I hear you have started studying for the bar?"
Kate did not know that anyone else knew about her plans. She decides that Castle must have told the mayor about her plans "Well sir, Castle and I have begun that"
"So what are you planning to do afterwards? Set up a practice or join a firm?"
"Sir, I haven't thought much about that. I am just working on my studies for the exams at this moment"
The mayor walks over to one of the guest chairs in her office and sits down and then looks directly across to Beckett-Castle "Kate we want you to run for District Attorney"
This comment catches her completely off guard "SIR? DA? I mean…I don't know what to say. I had not even thought about doing that"
"Kate. You are one great cop. You have been such an asset to this department and you and your husband great friends to me. But there are also forces in the political arena that want to see more of what you can do…"
The mayor stands up and moves toward the office door "Please consider this an official request for you to throw your hat into the ring"
"Mr. Mayor I don't know what to say"
"First off. Call me Bob and second, say Yes and we will take care to get the ball rolling"
The mayor takes the door handle. "And tell that husband of yours that I need a poker night to see if he's lost his skills at the game. Good day Chief"
Rick's Journal
Kate left this morning to go back to work. I thought I was going to have to literally shove her out the door. She just stood over Jimmy watching him sleep. I told her it was creepy. She just laughed at me. Told me that I couldn't use that one being I am the king of creepy
She is such a great mother. I wish that I had not made the mistakes in my life before her. I wish she were my one and done but I at least have half of that. The done part that is.
Just after she left, Bob Weldon called to talk to her. I told him she was on her way to One Police Plaza to go back to work. He told me that the party wants her to run for DA. WOW. I didn't' know what to say. I told him to ask her because I would never stop her from doing the things she wants to do. I know she wanted to be a lawyer and move up to the Supreme Court but this would be almost as good for her.
I will support her with whatever she does.
Kate's cell phone rings and displays a picture of her best friend "Hey Lanie"
"Hey yourself. I hear you are back at the grind already. Tired of baby or tired of Castle?"
"Neither. I love them both just like they are" Kate responds "What are up you today?"
"Just thought you might want to catch some girl time later. It has been quite a while since we just hung out and talked"
"You know what Lanie. That sounds like a great idea. How about we get together tonight after work"
"Perfect Kate, You want to go to The Old Haunt?"
"No. We might be found out by our husbands there. Let's just go the SOHO Grill, grab some dinner and talk" Kate answers
"Sounds good to me girlfriend. See you at what 7:00?"
"Seven it is" Kate responds and they hang up. Kate then calls home to tell Rick about the Mayor's visit and Lanie
"Hello beautiful" Rick says as he answers her call
"What are my two favorite men up to?"
"We are great. I am just teaching Jimmy how to play Laser Tag"
Kate smirks at the phone. "Richard Castle! You are not putting him into that suit are you?"
"The suit is a little big right now but he will grow into it"
"Hey the reason I called is two fold. One Lanie and I are having dinner and girl time tonight. Is that OK with you?"
"You know it is. You two haven't seen much of each other for quite a while so have fun."
"And second. Did you know that the Mayor was coming to see me today?"
Rick pauses a moment before answering "He might have said something about coming around to see you. Why?"
"You knew he was going to ask me to run for office. Didn't you?"
"Kate, he called this morning after you left. I didn't know before then. Are you going to do it?"
"Because of that question I'm calling talk time for tonight" Kate comments
"You have it, love. I am looking forward to it"
"I'll see you later after Lanie and I have our supper" Kate states "Love you Rick"
"I love you more" He responds
The SOHO Grill is one of the quieter places for people to go for a meal. The food is excellent and the atmosphere very good for conversation. The two best friends order very healthy with Kate getting a soup and salad and Lanie selecting the Baked Salmon.
"So Kate, how is it at home with your little boy under foot?"
"Are you asking about Jimmy or Castle?" Kate jokingly asks
"Either. Or Both" Lanie smiles "Have your lives returned to normal yet?"
"Jimmy is sleeping all night usually. He is growing like a weed. He is so much fun to watch. Just interacting with him. He smiles now when we talk to him. He seems to recognize me and his dad. He is starting to show his own little personality" Kate is just bubbling over when he describes her son. She is so proud of him
"So is the other part of your life returning to normal yet?"
"What other part?" Kate has an honest question in her voice
"You know the other part? The part that helped create little Jimmy in the first place?"
Kate's face turns a bright shade of crimson
"I take that as a yes then?"
"LANIE!"
"Well is it?"
Kate pause a moment then answers "Yes Lanie we are back to normal"
"Kate honestly. Are you telling me that you two…"
"Lanie. Rick treats me like a queen. You remember the jerk we first met back six, seven years ago? He is long gone"
"So no more chasing women?"
"Only letting him chase me now. The one for my personal enjoyment. Speaking of which, I have a date in bed with my guy tonight to discuss something"
"In bed? You discuss things in bed? That seams like a distraction"
"We make time to talk there. Usually it does end up with other distractions"
"Sounds like fun. What's the discussion about?"
Kate pauses a moment before answering "Lanie, the Mayor came by today. They want me to run for District Attorney"
"Wow! Are you going to do that?"
"That's what we are going to talk about tonight"
Two men are seated at the small table in the mayor's office
"Bob, did she agree to run?" the man asks
"She said she needed to talk to Castle about it. Do you think she will?"
"If I know my son, he will convince her to take the chance"
"Does the party believe she has a chance?" Bob Weldon questions
"Yes. The election committee says we can get her into the DA's office because of her record and then we get her elected into a higher office"
"That is ironic. The woman whose mother was killed by a corrupt senator elected to his old office"
"I call that justice"
