A/N: So, we're getting closer to the end! I don't know how many more chapters this will be, but I just want to thank everyone who's read this story! It means a lot that so many liked my very first fanfic! :3
As the Doctor passed out and landed on the floor, no one made a move to catch him. He landed face first with a thud while River rubbed her head.
He's the only person I known that would mention a Dalek invasion as an afterthought. River thought.
Everyone else was staring at the Doctor, not exactly sure what to do. The only exception was Batman, who was glaring, as usual. He also did not appreciate the invasion being mentioned only now.
But before anyone moved to do anything, a sonic boom reverberated all around them as a Dalek ship headed inland.
"River, can you watch the Doctor? We need to go." Superman said urgently.
"Of course. We need to focus on getting his TARDIS back as soon as possible anyways." River said.
With that, the superheroes left to defend Earth. Superman went straight into space, looking to see how many Daleks had come. Zooming up through the atmosphere, Superman was there in seconds.
The Daleks had brought numerous ships, but unbeknownst to Superman, this was all that was left after several successful attacks from the Green Lantern Corps. A few ships fired at him and he easily dodged , and flew back down to help the League. They had already started attacking the Daleks, and Superman joined in.
The ship started blowing up buildings, but luckily no people were around. The League split up as more Daleks rained down and spread throughout the planet, though most seemed to target the Justice League.
The military had raised red alert and had started attacking them as well, but with little success. Even though the Justice League was fairing better, there was a constant flow of Daleks to replace the ones that fell.
If any good was to come out of this, it would be that the Daleks were also targeting the Master. Whether they did it because they could, or because they were just desperate to get rid of the Time Lord, it didn't matter. It's not like the League could go after him, and the Doctor was still incapacitated while River focused solely on getting the TARDIS back. So as long as he could escape the Daleks, he wouldn't have anything to worry about.
Moving the Doctor out of harms way, she tried to wake him up. She knew it wouldn't be a good idea while his body tried to recover from such a violent regeneration, but it couldn't be helped. It would also explain why he was acting so weird with her past self, now that she thhough of it.
Getting desperate, she decided to try and reach out to his mind. Hopefully it'd be worth the risk.
River mentally prepared herself, knowing that he wouldn't be all too pleased to have someone wondering around in there. Carefully lowering her hands to his temples, she forced all of her attention on waking him up. Going astray could not only hurt him, but could be catastrophic for her wellbeing. She already knew there were some things she didn't want to know about the Doctor, and she didn't intend on finding them out.
She felt for the edge of his mind and gently gave a little push. As soon as she did that, she was sucked in to his mind like a vortex. River was suddenly overwhelmed with dizziness, but forced herself to focus. She tried to ignore the bile rising to the back of her throat as she felt herself be pulled and pushed around the Doctor's head. Every second that ticked by she could feel another part of the Doctor's mimd and memories falling into place, and her brain was instinctually pulling her mind towards them, trying to get out of the chaos. River knew she was running out of time. She was starting to feel the Doctor, and if he gained enough sense to detect her invading mind, he may not recognize her as friendly and attack her on instinct, trying to protect himself in such an exposed state.
River could feel the pressure building inside her head, and if she wasn't a Time Lady she'd probably be brain dead by now. But that was another problem she faced. If the Doctor got inside her head, he could unintentionally see into his, or more specifically their future. Even worse, if he found out she was a Time Lady so early in his history, there's a chance it'd destroy her past or even worse, Amy and Rory's.
Before any of those scenarios could become reality, the Doctor's eyes shot open and he shot up, head butting River in the process and ripping her from his mind as she lost concentration.
"River! Good to see you again! Was I out long? Oh dear, those are Dalek ships aren't they?" The Doctor tried to stand up only to fall flat on his back. "Seems the legs aren't working yet." He continued to stuble around and gave up shortly, deciding to sit on the ground for now.
River on the other hand, was trying to deal woth a nasty migran that the Doctor's rambling was only making worse. It didn't help that she was still a bit dizzy, but unlike the Doctor, wasn't trying to stand up.
"Where are the others? You know, the ones in the brightly colored tights?" Then the Docto finally notices River holding her head. "Are you okay? Wait, is it because I head butted you?" River just sighed, slowly getting up off the ground.
"Don't worry about it." River said as she walked over to him, still rubbing her head.
She proceeded to try and help the Doctorstand back up. Unfortunately, she was still a little dizzy so when the Doctor shot up, he nearly knocked her down. She somehow managed to regain her balance for a minute and was able to get him to stand on his own again.
"So, River, first things first, we should get my TARDIS back." The Doctor said. She nodded in agreement.
"And luckily for us, I managed to think of a way to get her back while you've been fumbling around like an idiot." River said.
"Not my fault. My head still feels a bit fuzzy. Oh! I just remembered! New regeneration, new clothes! They should all be back on the TARDIS!"
"That really shouldn't be your first concern, Doctor." River said as she felt her head throb.
The Doctor didn't seem to hear her, as he proceeded to take off his tie and throw it on the ground.
"Right, so where to now?" The Doctor asked.
Just then a huge explosion could be heard farther inland as two Dalek ships crashed into each other and someone blurred by in the distance. It was too far away for them to see who it was, but it was most likely Superman or maybe the Flash.
"Com one Doctor." River said as she headed off in the direction of the explosion, the Doctor right beside her. "Time to pay the Daleks a visit."
A/N: Please review! And once again, this story isn't over, but I feel I should let you know that we're close to the end.
