Keeper
Chapter 36
Thursday
After a layover at LAX and a long flight over the ocean, I arrived in Hawaii. I was quite tired when I lugged my luggage off of the carousel. I wiped my sleepy eyes and headed towards the line for taxis.
"Need a ride, Miss?" I heard a man offer. My eyes widened in recognition and I turned my head to face the source. A smiling Irishman was there.
"Sheamus!"
"How's my Kennedy doing?" he asked as he gave me a big hug.
"Not so good, Sheam. You have no idea how happy I am to see you," I mumbled as I buried my face in his chest. He rested his chin on the top of my head for a second, just letting me hug him.
"Let's get you back to the resort. It's beautiful out, a little relaxation in the sun might help."
"With booze?" I asked. He chuckled softly.
"So much booze. I'll even have them put in one of those little drink umbrellas!"
"Perfect. Let's go. I'm sure Steph is jumping at the bit for us to get back."
"You know her so well," he said with amusement as he grabbed my bags from me and guided me out to the town car.
Sheamus was right. Hawaii was every bit as beautiful as he and Stephanie claimed it to be. After a short drive we pulled up in front of a gorgeous resort. It looked like a movie set. I was truly in awe of the grand architecture and the flourishing foliage which surrounded it.
"Here we are! Paradise at last!"
"Paradise indeed. Suddenly, I really wish I would have come sooner!" I said in a joking manner although it was a little true. That blow up with Punk was awful and I almost wished the days leading up to it even happened.
He lead the way through the front building and back outside again. Evidently, Stephanie splurged a bit and booked each couple a cottage. I didn't really know what that meant until we walked past the traditional hotel buildings and back to the cottages. There was a little bit of space between each of them which meant a great deal of privacy. Privacy was hard to come by these days and I was really glad to have it now.
"Check out that view," I marveled.
"It is lovely," he said as prepared what looked like screwdrivers. He handed me one and kept the other for himself. "Now are you going to tell me what's going on? You haven't sounded so good." I took a long swig and looked at him a little too blankly.
"I'm not ready to talk about it yet," I said honestly.
"Alright. Just know that I'm here to listen the second you want to talk about it."
"Thanks Sheamus."
"No problem, doll face."
"Can we go lay out please?" I asked with a hint of excitement.
"Of course!"
We put on our suits and dragged some lawn chairs out onto the sandy beach. Of course Sheamus had to put out an umbrella for himself. Otherwise he'd be a lobster by the time we left on Sunday. I laid out in my chair, feeling the warm rays on my face. With a breeze in the air and a drink in my hand, I was truly in paradise…
Saturday
The trip was flying by so fast. Sheamus had been right, some time relaxing in the sun had improved my mood and my outlook. I still hadn't confided in anybody about what had been going on with me. I could tell he was a bit concerned but he hadn't pushed me into talking about it. It was pretty nice of him.
As I slipped into my dress for dinner, I heard my phone vibrating. I quickly reached for it and answered it.
"Hello?"
"Hey, boss!"
"How are you, Brad?" I said a little less than enthused.
"Great! Just trying to figure out some stuff for Raw!" he chirped excitedly. "After giving it a whirl last week, I have so many ideas!"
"Look, that's fantastic. I'm glad that you have been thinking so much but I don't have time for this right now."
"Damn. You sure you don't have a moment?"
"I'm sure. I'm on my way to dinner. Maybe a little bit later?"
"I guess. Thanks anyways, Ms. Steele."
"Bye, Brad."
I hung up and added a final layer of lip gloss.
"You ready, Doll?" Sheamus asked from the sitting room area.
"Yeah, I'm coming. Are we late?" I heard laughing. "Is that a yes?
"Absolutely. Not too late though. No worries."
"Good." I walked quickly into the main area of the cottage and slipped on my shoes.
We headed to the nice restaurant at the resort to meet up with Steph and Hunter. Stephanie thought for our last night on the island we should all do a nice dinner together. She was always the planner! I can't tell if it was the business woman in her or the mom in her. Of course her and Hunter were already seated by the time we arrived. Sheamus and I walked hand in hand following the hostess as she lead us over to the Helmsley's table.
"Hey guys! Sorry we're late!" I apologized.
"You're like five minutes late…and that's more like fashionably late," Steph assured me.
"Besides, how can we be irritated in the slightest when we are sitting in front of a beautiful ocean view?" Trips joked.
"No, kidding. I've got to admit, I'm really going to miss seeing this view every day!"
"Maybe we should go half and half on a place out here!" she joked.
"Don't tempt me! I don't need to buy any more real estate right now!" I said taking a sip from my glass.
"Oh yeah! You were looking for places in Florida!" Hunter said surprised.
"Closed on a condo already!" I said matter-of-factly. I was the proud owner of a home in Conneticut and a condo in Tampa...not bad for a 26 year old.
"Way to go, Boots!" he said congratulating me. "Guess I've been left out of the loop lately."
"Oh, that's alright. Just waiting to hear from Papa about when my training starts."
"I doubt that will be very soon," Steph said quietly. I turned my head to look at her.
"Why do you say that?" I snapped.
"Because Dad doesn't really want you to wrestle. I think he'll stall and hope you drop the whole wanting to train thing," she said with a shrug.
"I hope you're wrong! I really want to do this. It almost seems like a McMahon rite of passage," I joked as I took another swig of my drink.
The topic changed and things got better. The conversation was flowing as was the alcohol as the sun began to set in out island paradise.
"Well, I think we are going to head back to our cottage," Hunter said a bit eagerly. I could tell that the Helmsleys wanted some alone time before they flew home to their house full of beautiful daughters tomorrow.
"Oh alright, have fun you too," I said with a wink. Stephanie's face blushed slightly.
"We will," Trips said with a chuckle as they rose to their feet.
"Goodnight!" Sheamus called out.
"Night guys!"
I turned back to Sheamus.
"Wanna head back or do you wanna grab another round?" I asked him with a smile. The alcohol was definitely setting in.
"The night's still young! Waiter, another round!" he said decidedly to the staff member. He quickly returned with the drinks and we got to drinking them. I looked distantly at the setting sun on the waterline. "A penny for your thoughts?"
"Oh, it's nothing," I said sloppily waving it off.
"Look, I know you've been a little sad…a little down. You really should talk about it. I mean, tomorrow we've got to go back to the real world. You'll probably have to face whatever it is that's bothering you."
"Fine…you really want to know?" I asked slurring a bit.
"Yes."
"Dolph broke things off with me," I said glumly as I took another swig of my drink.
"What? That little fucker! I ought to beat that wanker's ass!" he growled.
"No need for that." I placed my hand on his in an effort to subdue him.
"I just don't get why he'd do this?" Sheamus said calming down a bit.
"He didn't want to hide anymore. He thought I wasn't as serious about him as he was about me…"
"Aww Kennedy…"
"No, it's okay. Maybe he's right," I sniffled. "Maybe there is a reason I didn't want to go public with him."
"Like what?"
"I don't know. Maybe I'm not that in to him, maybe I'm afraid to commit, maybe I'm too scared to go against Papa's wishes…I don't know…" I said with a shrug, a tear running down my cheek. He reached his hand over to my face and wiped the tear with his thumb.
"Dollface, any man that leaves you doesn't deserve you. Dolph is insecure. He must of took your levels of secrecy as uncertainty. He wasn't confident in your relationship together. That's his fucking problem to work through, not yours!" I smiled.
"Thank you, Sheam. I just know that I have a little work to do on me too."
"We all do," he said giving my hand a squeeze. I considered mentioning the CM Punk mess but I refrained. I was still processing what was going on there. "Was everything alright on the Punk bus?"
"I uh…yeah. It was alright, I mean, I'd rather have been here with you guys instead of working."
"Did he give you a hard time?"
"Not too much. We got along decently enough though. I've got quite a bit of Punk experience by now." Sheamus only nodded. Thankfully, he didn't press me any further on the matter.
An hour and several drinks later, the two of us stumbled out of the restaurant and down the path to our cottage.
"Oh my gosh, look at the moon!" I shouted a bit to loudly.
"Shhh! We'll wake people up!" Sheamus said shushing me with a chuckle before we both erupted into laughter.
"Sorry!" I said as soon as I could breathe again. "It's just so gorgeous out here."
"I know. It's-it's-so pretty," he slurred. "Almost makes you wish you could stay here forever."
"Seriously though!"
We reached our cottage and he grabbed out our key card. He dropped it twice before getting it into the slot.
"There we go!" he cheered as he pushed the door open and let me inside. I walked in and saw my reflection in the mirror.
"Oh my gawd!" I spat drunkenly.
"What?" he asked alarmed.
"I look awful!" I said with a giggle as I wiped my smeared makeup from under my tired eyes.
"You do not. You look gorgeous as always!"
"Liar!"
"Hey!" he said clutching his chest, offended.
"Oh, you know I love you, Sheam!" I said stepping over to him. The world began to spin a little but I still wrapped my arms around him, giving him a big hug. He kissed the top of my head. The next thing I know, our lips are touching. He moved his hands to either side of my face as he delicately kissed me. I leaned into him, intensifying the kiss.
My stomach began to gurgle. I immediately pulled away.
"Kennedy, I-"
"I think I'm going to be sick," I mumbled as I rushed over to the bathroom. I proceeded to hurl my fancy dinner and drinking into the porcelain toilet. Sheamus didn't miss a beat. I felt him grab my hair so it didn't fall in my vomit.
What a way to end a vacation…
