Chapter 35: Almost There
Seto's eyes never left the street as he drove the beautiful sports car effortlessly. I know he has a few similar back home but he rarely drives them. He has his limos and company vehicles that are at his disposal. However, watching him with such focus and determination made me want to smile despite the horrible situation. This is Seto Kaiba; not the weakened shadow he had been the past few hours.
"We're about a block away from Paradius Headquarters and so far the coast is clear." Mokie said looking down at his phone. He was a good little navigator; telling Seto when to turn and what lanes to take.
"I think you may have spoken a little too soon Mokuba because it looks like we have company." Mokie gasps as we all noted the lines of monsters, just like the others, that stood in the middle of the street blocking our path. Seto slammed on the brake and motioned for Mokie to stay in the car.
"We'll handle this." We got out the car slowly and I could tell Seto was trying to contain his annoyance.
"Evening. Is there something I can help you boys with?" Seto said softly in his causal business tone.
"Be careful guys!" Mokie said softly opening the door behind Seto so he could see better.
"Look, I don't know what you freaks are or even if you exist at all, but we don't have any time to play games. So I suggest you back off!" Seto said activating his duel disk and I started mine up shortly after. The monsters seemed unfazed by his threat. I had circled the car and now stood beside Seto with Mokie against the car behind us. To get to him, these things would have to go through both of us.
"Seto, what do we do know?" Mokie asked.
"It's simple, we exterminate these oversized cockroaches." Seto looked at me and nodded, I smiled drew one of my favorite cards.
"Come on out, my Fairy Knight!" I said placing the card on my duel disk.
"My Blue Eyes, come forth!" Seto called out calling his favorite beast! The creatures took a unison step back obviously intimidated by our powerful monsters!
"Eliminate this pest problem with white lightning strike and magic beam blast!" Seto shouted causing both of our monsters to attack. While our monsters destroyed nearly all of them, others appeared on our flanks now.
"Oh man, how are we supposed to get rid of these things? When you smash them, they come right back." Mokie asked
"Mokuba, what do I always tell you? If at first you don't succeed, blast them with your blue eyes again!" Seto called out destroying all the monsters again. Yet, they reappeared again closer. One even reached after me but my knight defended me but another managed to grab Mokie.
"Hey! Hold on! I play Critius!" Seto said distressed at his brother's danger.
The legendary dragon appeared and seemed to destroy all the pests but new ones marched forward.
"Thanks bro." Mokie said as Seto and I pulled him towards us to hide him between us.
"They're not all gone yet." I said looking at Seto nervous. If his dragons couldn't defeat them what else was left?
"Those goons, just won't give up."
"Then we won't either! Dragons, Fairy Knight, Attack with Tri-Beam Attack!" All three creatures combined their attacks and the monsters were finally gone. I relaxed but as we prepared to deactivate our duel disks. Critius let out a horrible wail and took off into the sky.
"Must be some kind of glitch in the holographic image." Seto said watching the dragon with his eyes. Soon it disappeared and his duel disk finally shut down.
"Come on let's go, we're almost there." Seto said getting back in his new car. No thanks to the slight set back with the monsters, we were back on the path to Paradius.
However, just before we reached the final turn, we saw two figures in the middle of the road.
"Seto! Look out! Stop!" He froze and slammed on the breaks stopping just before contact would be made. However, as they came into focus I narrowed my eyes.
"Tea! Tristan!" Mokie called out climbing over me to get out of the car.
"Mokuba, Rika, Kaiba?" Tea asked unsure it was us.
"Nice car." Tristan admitted taking in Seto's recent purchase.
"Just our luck, dork fest continues. So what happened to Wheeler, did baby need a nap?" Seto asked. I didn't even notice the unconscious blonde on Tristan's back.
"That's not funny Kaiba." Tea snapped, I heard the shake in her voice and looked at Seto. Something bad happened and I have a good hunch he lost his duel against the biker. However, the two didn't get a chance to explain before Mokie started freaking out, nearly jumping on the hood of the still running vehicle.
"What's your problem now?" Seto asked obviously annoyed at his brother's childish actions.
"It's our problem." Mokie said pointing down the road we just came from. My eyes widened as I saw the swarm of rats with glowing red eyes coming towards us.
"Rats!" Tea said starting to freak out.
"I hate those things!" Tristan said jointing Tea's freak out. He nearly dropped Joey in the process but Seto caught him with his arm before centering him on Tristian's back. He quickly scanned the alley and both of our eyes landed on the fire escape to our left.
"Listen up geeks, let's move." He said pulling Mokuba along.
"Quick the fire escape." Seto said pointing upwards so they would understand. Tea jumped on top of a nearby garbage can to help her ascend quicker followed by Mokie who was hoisted up by Seto. Tea and Mokie then pulled up the unconscious Wheeler. Seto then put his arms around me and jumped up grabbing the railing balancing us on the trashcan. The rats passed by us but attempting to tip the can we stood on. Their squeals and scratches on the metal were annoying and I hid my head in Seto's chest. His arm tightened around me noting my distress.
"If there's one thing I hate more than flying, it's rats!" I said into him.
"It's okay, they're nearly gone." He whispered into my ear. I was not oblivious to the two looks of awe coming from above us. Sooner or later, Seto and I would have to confirm our relationship to the geek squad but for now, it was nice just have them guessing.
"I can't believe it…even after everything…Kaiba…you have a heart." Tristan said looking down at the CEO. I expected Seto to release me and deny the accusation, but he didn't he just growled at the brunette and tightened his hold on me.
"Rika is Seto's best friend, if something happened to her, well, Ra bless the world." Mokuba said slyly.
"Kaiba, I didn't think you did the whole friend thing." Tea teased.
"I knew Rika before any of you dorks started to annoy me." Seto said finally released me and we dropped to the ground and waited for the others to join us.
"Where'd they come from?" Mokuba asked looking at the disappearing herd of vermin.
"I smell a rat and his name is Dartz." Seto said firmly.
"Come on let's go, were just about there!" I said pointing to the large ominous building less than half a block away.
There you have it! Hope you liked it. So Kaiba and Rika are having a real hard time hiding their relationship the more time their spending with Yugi and Co... When will the cat finally be out of the bag? Well, we just don't know!
