Okay Final Chapter. ENJOY!

Chapter 38

I was looking out the balcony from the Choir room. I could see the gates of Dalton Academy and some seniors lounging and reminiscing. I am grateful for my stay here. I don't know what would've happened if I hadn't transferred two years ago. It's just so unnerving to know that we'd be leaving in a few days…

"Hey." Thad said leaning on railings beside me. "Can you believe it's been two years?"

I shook my head with a smile. "It seems only yesterday I came here to Westerville with a broken arm."

"And that gay but not really vibe." Thad added

"You just had to add that?" I asked. "I know I have a baby face. You don't have to rub it in."

"Well," Thad said wrapping his arms around me. "Look at you now. You've got me as your best friend. The Warblers as your brothers. And probably one of the most confident people I know."

He let go of me and looked at me in the eye. "You are definitely different from that awkward kid I met two years ago. And I am sure you're mom would be proud."

I grabbed Thad in a hug. "In the risk of sounding like a teenage girl, have I ever told you that you are the bestest friend anyone would ever hope for."

"More than once." Thad said. "You're not bad yourself Barry. Now, enough with this sappy stuff. We have one last Warbler Meeting."

~()~

For the first and last time I banged the gravel on the council table, where Thad and I sat.

"Okay so I know this is the last Warbler meeting for most of us here. And everyone has something to say. So I think we should start. Nick?"

"I just want to say that even when we are all in our separate colleges." Nick said. "We are all brothers. And to all the new Warblers, we are all just a phone call away."

"Once a Warbler, Always a Warbler." Jeff said with a smile as he was comforting Clark who had already broken down.

Most of the Seniors had said the same thing. And when it was my turn, I stood nervously on my seat. I walked towards the front of the council table and tried and failed to casually lean on it confidently. I rubbed my sweaty palms on the side of my pants and I started.

"I know I've been a bit of a jerk."

"Understatement." Nick piped and I just playfully stuck my tongue at him while he laughed.

"Well, I just want to say. I'm sorry." I said. "And thank you. I've…I was an only child for so long. And after my mom had died. I don't know who to trust. Being here, being in the Warblers, felt like having real brothers. There are moments I really thought I hit rock bottom, but you guys were there for me. So thank you."

Trent opened his arms and engulfed me in a hug and soon everyone was in a big group hug.

After everyone as back in their seats and calmed down. I gave them all a big smile.

"So to end this meeting, as captain, I would like to announce a few changes, Thad and I have thought of for the future of the next generation of Warblers." I said with a smile and motioned to Thad.

"We would like to reinstate the three man Warbler council. And for next year's councilmen, when I call your name please come forward." Thad said. "Warbler Skylar."

The seniors surrounding the stunned sophomore patted him at the back as he happily stepped forward.

"Warbler Austin."

The blonde haired Warbler with a cowlick yelped joyfully and stepped forward.

"I still wasn't so sure about this one." I whispered to Thad. He just hit my arm.

"And Warbler Oliver." After a rather hard push on Nick's part Oliver also joined the two Warblers in the center of the Library."

I stepped forward with the gravel. "The Warblers have a tradition. And as the current captain, I was tasked to assign the next head Warbler. And after a long time of deliberation. I would like to announce the Warbler to head this group of brothers to the next generation of brothers. Warbler Skylar."

I held the gravel by the head and presented him with the handle.

"Congratulations." I said with a smile. The stunned Warbler accepted the gravel with a look on his face. I faced the Warblers.

"Please welcome the new Warbler council."

The Warblers all cheered and patted the back of their fellow brothers.

"Skylar." I called before he left the choir room. "A minute."

I stood perched on the Council table while I waited for everyone to leave.

"You wanted something."

"Actually I wanted to give you something." I said walking over to the other side of the council table and I pulled out a bird cage from under the table. "Two years ago, Wes, the former head Warbler gave this to me as a gift. It's another inside tradition."

I handed him the cage.

"Love birds?" he asked holding on to the cage.

"The thing with love birds, you take care of them both. One can't live without the other. The Warblers are a group. Despite the fact that we are all so different. We have our strengths." I put a hand on his shoulder. "There is a reason why Hunter's reign didn't work out too well, and why I had my own problem last year. The head Warbler always has to remember. Our team is as strong as it's weakest link. Even in a pair. One would always be weaker, but if you take care of them properly. They life long lives."

He nodded in understanding. "We won't let you down."

"I know you wont." I said. "But I want you to remember what Nick said. It applies to all of us. If you need us. We're just a phone call away."

"Of course." He said. I held out a hand to the new Head Warbler. Which he shook back.

"So this is it?"

Marley was standing with a sad smile on her face. I grabbed my ex-girlfriend in a hug.

"You were the best, Barry." She whispered. "I don't know what I would be without you."

"Hey." I said whipping the tears off her face. "No tears, we both agreed that it didn't work out. I know you love Jake. And you know I was still hung up on Iris. For all it's worth. I don't know what I would be without you either."

"You'd always be my bear-y adorable nerd"

"And you will always be my girl."

"Okay, I know you guys were together, but I think I want a hug too." Stacy said with sass that reminded me way too much like Santana. My nine year old cousin looks a lot more mature than she was two years ago.

Marley blushed while I chuckled. I opened my arms to my nine year old cousin. Who practically tackled into me.

"I'm going to miss you, Barry." She said. "It'll be different not having you around all the time."

"Hey, you could always visit me in Central City." I pointed out. "And you could always text me."

"And you better text back." She said. "I've been talking with Santana she offered to help me go Lima heights on you if you don't text back."

"You have got to stop talking to Santana." I said with a chuckle. "I'll miss you too squirt."

"Time to go." Uncle Alan announced. I gave one last hug to two of my best girls here in Ohio. And headed to the car.

The ride to the airport was short and silent. But Uncle Alan had pulled me aside before I was due to board the plane.

"Barry Allen." He said with a proud smile. He grabbed me in a hug which I returned. "You have grown so much."

"And it's all thanks to you."

"You're not that awkward kid that came here with a broken arm two years ago." Uncle Alan said. "I watch you grow into a man, and I know one thing. You're mother would've been so proud. And even if it was just for a year and a few months, I am proud to call you my son."

"Thank you for everything, Uncle Alan."

"You're family, Barry." He said. "Family is forever."

We are now boarding flight 4AJ4231 to Central City.

"That's my flight."

Uncle Alan gave me one last long hug.

"Good luck, Barry."

I waved him goodbye and headed towards the plane. Sebastian Smythe might be a kid in the past, but he will always hold a big part of my life. But I will always remember who I am.

I am Barry Allen, and I'm returning to Central City, better than ever.

The end
