Chapter 38/50
Demon Lord Ghirahim! Second Form!
Volcano Summit Arc (4/4)

Link let out his battle cry as he charged first. Ghirahim smirked and snapped his fingers where two glowing red diamonds, from lower left to upper right, appeared in front of him. Link halted and immediately raised his shield. "Remember these, Link?" Ghirahim walked toward Link casually while raising his glowing, red right hand forward.

Link grunted, having brief flashbacks on their last fight. Nevertheless, he kept his eyes on his enemy, seeing him to be within striking distance. Link slashed down vertically, but Ghirahim caught the blade itself. Link gasped, recalling the exact scenario from before. Seeing the red diamonds pointing toward him, Link immediately pulled away his sword as hard as he could and jumped to the side. The diamonds barely touched him before striking the floor and disappearing away.

Ghirahim laughed as he snapped his fingers again, summoning two red diamonds. This time, they were horizontal instead of being diagonal. "You're all bark, but no bite."

Link growled before getting back into his defensive stance. "Shut up..." He moved up in a cautious manner as the tip of his sword pointed to the left diamond. Ghirahim moved his glowing right hand to that diamond, but Link immediately slashed the right diamond away. In that moment, Ghirahim widened his eyes as Link was about to slash Ghirahim's left side. However, Link glanced at the left diamond pointing at him, causing his body to tense. Link jumped away and raised his shield, expecting the diamond to shoot toward him, but the diamond reverted back to its original position.

Ghirahim decided to let out a yawn to hide his surprise. "What a dull fight we have here. Is that your so called hit-and-run strategy? How about I make this harder for you?" He snapped his fingers, now having four diamonds in front of him and in a diamond shape.

Link started to feel sweat dripping down his face. His body felt more tense than usual, his heart beat increased, and he let out short breaths. He started to clutch his left waist in pain. Why?! After all I've been through, why am I still scared of him?! Am I cursed?! He refocused his attention to Ghirahim, but gasped to see the four diamonds heading toward him. Link rolled out-of-the-way, then saw Ghirahim summoning back the four diamonds, except they were now in a square shape. Link discarded his thought process and charged toward him.

Ghirahim raised his right hand, thinking Link would stop and attack in a slow methodical way. However, Link struck all four diamonds and swung down to Ghirahim's left chest. But Ghirahim continued to smirk, letting the blade strike his left chest without feeling a stinging pain. He laughed upon seeing Link's shocked expression before Link jumped back. "It really is like last time. I can't blame you since you're such an inferior human. A weakling, I might add."

Link's face cringed. As long as I'm scared, my blade can't hurt him! What do I do?!

"But enough games." Ghirahim licked his lips, snapped his left finger, and summoned two slender black sabers into his hands. "Just do me a favor and stand still so I can hear your death cry. I'm asking very nicely. Please?"

Link let it all out. "Damn youuu!" Before either of them could act, the double doors opened up as four people came in, panting. "Eds! Gorko!"

"Sorry for the wait!" Gorko said. "We had to fight some Bokoblins along the way!"

"Whoa, it's Lord Dorky!" Eddy said, grinning. "How's it going? Did you fail at life or what?"

Ghirahim grunted and growled at him. "We meet again, Eddy!" he said, pointing his sword at him.

"Eddy, don't provoke him!" Double D said, feeling his shaky legs. "Especially since he threatened you, remember?!"

"Your friend is right, Eddy." Ghirahim swiped his sabers in anticipation. "Any last words before I come to you?"

Eddy stared at him for a moment, then stifled his laughter. "Man, your designs are still ugly!" he said. "You need help. Seriously, go to a fashion shop or something!"

Ghirahim's eyes widened. "That's it!" He charged forward at an alarming speed, but Eddy already prepared his Scattershot and fired Deku Nuts at him. However, Ghirahim warped and appeared after those projectiles, much to everyone's shock. Ed tried to run in and swing, but Ghirahim leaped over and descended down to Eddy's horrified expression by pointing his sabers down. Eddy gasped and stepped back a couple of times before dropping down on his butt.

"Eddy!" Gorko said, stepping in front of him as he screamed in agony. The sabers sliced Gorko's front body, leaving two vertical cuts on him. Gorko placed both arms on his wounds.

Ghirahim stared at Gorko's painful face. "You should have never been involved with these fools. Allow me to grace you with death!" Then, he stared to stab five times, each stab more grueling than the last as Gorko screamed. Eddy could not see it, but the thought of what was happening to Gorko terrified his mind and body. At the sidelines, Double D gaped and unable to move a muscle. As Gorko fell down, still clutching his body, Ghirahim was about to deal the finishing blow when he jumped away from a hammer swing.

"Ghirahiiim!" Ed said with rage, swinging his hammer against his enemy. "Prepare to be terminated!"

"No, Ed! Stop!" Link said, gasping. "You're no match for him!" The fight continued on, causing Link to growl. "Gorko!" He quickly went to the Gorko, pulled out a Heart Potion, lifted Gorko to see a blood pool, and splashed Gorko's front body. The wounds and blood around began to disappear. "You okay?"

Gorko grunted. "It still hurts," he said, dropping down to the floor.

Link gritted. "Those wounds were deep." He stood up and quickly looked at Ghirahim and Ed's fight.

So far, Ghirahim leaped away from another hammer swing. "You know," he said to Ed, frowning, "I still remembered you swinging that toy at me back at Skyview Temple. This is the perfect opportunity to get you back!" He snapped his fingers as a ring of red diamonds formed in front of him. Five diamonds broke out of formation, floating horizontally for a bit.

Link gasped before turning to Double D. "Double D!" No response came from him. "Double D!" Link ran up to him and shook him. "Double D!"

"S-s-sorry!" Double D replied, regaining his senses. "I.. I don't know-"

"Never mind that! I can't fight Ghirahim with all I got unless I have the power of zeal!" He gripped Double D's arms. "Give it to me now!"

"L-Link, you're hurting my arms! A-and you're scaring me, too!"

Link growled in frustration and got up to Double D's face. "Now!" Immediately, Double D pointed and fired three shots at Link. Link let go as his body spewed out white energy. Link grunted in pain, feeling the fire sensation within, but he ignored it and charged into battle.

Double D dropped down to the ground on his knees with raspy breaths. "No... What have I done? Zeal Overload..."

Ed let out his battle cry, charging in with his Reinforced Shield to block the incoming projectiles in front of him. Ghirahim fired two more sets, one diagonal and one vertical. Ed blocked the diagonal assault, but one diamond in the vertical assault grazed his right leg. Still, he leaped forward and swung his Spiked Hammer down at Ghirahim, but he warped away. His hammer slammed on the ground, leaving a crack. Ed pulled it out, then sensed Ghirahim in front of him. He turned around and swung vertically, but he only hit the saber. In an instant, Ghirahim swung his saber against Ed's right arm. Ed screamed and collapsed onto the ground. He tried to run and retreat, but he grunted after feeling his wound on his right leg.

"Now you will know why I am truly feared!" Ghirahim said, about to stab Ed until he heard an angry roar. He turned around and leaped to the side, dodging Link's jump strike. Ghiraihm widened his eyes to see Link covered in uncontrollable white energy. He also saw Link with a gritting expression.

"Ghirahim! Today is the day you'll die!" Link said.

"Tch! I don't know what's going on, but you can't stop me!" Ghirahim snapped his fingers, causing a ring of diamonds to appear around Link horizontally. To his surprise, Link did a Spin Attack as all the diamonds redirected themselves to Ghirahim. He gasped in pain as the diamonds exploded upon contact. Link ran forward and attacked, but Ghirahim teleported into the air. He was about to stab Link with both sabers until Link jumped to the side and rolled behind Ghirahim. Ghirahim's sabers stabbed the floor as he tried to pull them out, but he felt a couple of slashes on his back. Ghirahim warped away with the ring of diamonds in front of him. He fired two sets when Link charged, but Link swung back all diamonds to redirect back to Ghirahim. After being inflicted, Ghirahim fired the last set and rushed forward, intending to kill Link once he swung his sword. In this one moment, Link lowered down to dodge the diamonds and Ghirahim's saber before slamming Ghirahim's head with his shield. "Augh!" Then, Link slashed a couple of times before leaping up and doing a graceful downward swing on Ghirahim's right shoulder.

Link landed down and ran up to Ghirahim. "You're dead!"

Ghirahim growled out loud. "Liiiink!" With all of his energy, he was about to kill with both stabs, but he held up his sabers in defense against Link's strong vertical blow. Link kept going before gripping his sword with both hands, adding even more speed and power to every vertical blow. Ghirahim wanted to counterattack, but his arms and hands twitched even more from every blow. With loud sword clanks, it finally ended when Link roared and swung down as hard as he could, destroying the first saber and slicing Ghirahim's front body. Ghirahim cried out in immense pain, backing away with only one saber in his left hand.

"Don't think...I'm finished with you!" But Link widened his eyes and dropped down to his knees, panting out loud. The Zeal Overload faded away from his body as he gritted in frustration. "No! Not...yet! I'm so close!"

Ghirahim panted and grunted. "Enough of this foolishness!" He clutched his chest, still feeling the stinging pain of Link's sword. "I am Ghirahim, Demon Lord!" He pointed at Link. "It shouldn't matter how powerful your sword is! You are still nothing... Not just a human... A human child! And yet you prevail! You filthy scamp! You have awakened a wrath that will burn for eons! I swear to you, whatever it takes, I will drag you into an eternity of torment!" He swung his sword in a circle in front of him before warping out of the room. Sunlight poured inside the circular windows from above as a Heart Container appeared in front of Link. As he held onto it, he turned around to see his friends. Ed splashed and drank his Heart Potion to heal his wounds before walking to Link. However, he had a neutral look. Eddy and Double D finally moved from their spot, but headed to Gorko to help him up. Link and Ed walked toward the three and saw Eddy and Double D's hesitation on their faces.

"What's wrong?"

"W-well... Um..." Double D said, looking away from Link. "We should treat Gorko first. Can you stand, Gorko?"

"N-no..." Gorko replied, grunting until he saw a Heart Container in front of him.

"You need this more than us," Link said.

"Thanks, brother." Gorko gripped the object as his body felt completely revitalized. "Ooh!" He hopped once and flex his arms. "That feels so good!"

Eddy sighed in relief. "That's good," he said. "Glad you're sticking around."

"Okay," Link said. "Looks like we're all fine. Let's get the Sacred Flame and get out of here." He turned around and walked away, then heard no footsteps from behind. He turned back to see his friends still in the same spot. Link groaned. "Now what?" The three Eds looked among themselves.

"L-Link..." Double D began. "I think...we need to have a talk."

"Huh? Can it wait?"

"No, we need to talk now. You see, when you fought Ghirahim, you manifested an...aggressive behavior, which is not like you."

"So? I needed that and the power of zeal to defeat him, and I did!"

Double D bit his lips. "That's true, but...while you fought him, I remembered your speech during the Wing Ceremony. Didn't you say that you're not the type of person to hate and hold grudges to anyone? Don't you see? You clearly hate Ghirahim, and that goes against what you said back then."

Link stared at him and his friends for a moment, then he let out a small gasp and looked away. "Oh..."

"'Oh?!'" Double D narrowed his eyes. "Is that it?! I understand that we have to stop Ghirahim, but you really crossed the line here! You forced me to use Zeal through intimidation, and you suffered Zeal Overload as your consequence!"

"Like I said, I needed that power against an opponent I'm afraid of! To this day, I still don't know why I'm scared of him and the black beast, but I needed power to overcome my weakness! I learned from Eddy in the Silent Realm that one with higher power can overwhelm the other!"

"What?" The others to Eddy. "Is that what you taught to him, Eddy?"

"So what?" Eddy asked with a confused look. "That's what power is, right?"

Double D pinched his nose. "I should have seen this coming." He turned to Link. "Link, here's my opinion. I think that power isn't just about defeating your opponents. Yes, it's true that without brute force to repel enemies, you are never safe. But those who are too absorbed by power get destroyed, like the Zeal Overload. Using power incorrectly leads to corruption. You could even..." Double D glanced away, shutting his eyes. "You could even lose friends."

Link widened his eyes before having a regretful look. "I... I didn't know," he said. "Double D...what's the true meaning of power?"

"Honestly...I don't know. That's all I know about power. You should find your own definition."

"I see." Link faced the four before bowing down. "I'm so sorry! I regretted my actions! I hope you forgive me." He continued in that position until he heard footsteps coming to him. He looked up to see his four friends.

"Apology accepted," Double D said, smiling.

"Since you healed me, it proves you still have your humanity," Gorko added.

"Right. Shall we proceed?" He, Gorko, and Eddy walked toward the next room. Ed was about to follow them until Link grabbed Ed's shoulder.

"Ed," Link said.

"Uh, yeah?" Ed asked.

"Um... There's something I need to tell you. You still remember that bet that I fight with my right hand?" He saw Ed nodding. "Well, I already broke the rule when I fought Ghirahim back at Skyview Temple with my dominant left hand. So...I lost the challenge. You win."

Ed continued to stare him. "Oh, okay."

"Yeah. So now, I owe you something great. I have something in mind, and I'm sure you'll like it before you return back home."

Ed nodded. "Cool." He began to resume walking before he stopped and turned his head to Link. "Just...stay Link, okay?"

Normally, Link would question this, but the two stared at each other's eyes until Link smiled. "Sure. I'm sorry for how I acted, Ed."

Finally, Ed's lips formed his usual smile. "Good!" He let out a goofy chuckle and entered the next room.

Link was about to follow him until he stumbled a bit and panted a bit. His body felt like it was burning just a bit. "The aftereffects of Zeal Overload..." With his left hand, Link pulled out the Heart Potion he splashed onto Gorko. There was a decent amount due to the liquid's weak viscosity, so he drank it all up, feeling his body to be a bit better. Then, Link ended up staring his left hand in deep thought before dropping his sword and shield equipment. This time, he wore them in reverse as he would have his shield in his right hand and his sword in his left hand. With the shield on his back, and the sword in his left hand, he walked toward Din's Flame Chamber.

The exact event happened again like in the Ancient Cistern, except the flames were bright red. Eddy and everyone else watched Link's sword bathed in red aura as Link raised his sword with his left hand. With a swift bright light, the sword transformed before their eyes. The hilt changed completely with dark purple-black color and a dull green diamond. The grip area had these "X" strings that resembled Fi's legs, and the guard that resembled wings pointed up with the blade. The blade itself had no indentations anymore as there was a really faint white glow around it. Overall, the blade looked more sharper, and it felt more comfortable to hold physically and in spirit.

Link swung his new sword more times than before, jumping while twirling around and swinging diagonally up. Eddy just groaned at this and walked to him. "Quit showing off!" he said.

Link chuckled. "Sorry. I can't help it," he said as he sheathed his sword to his left side. Like before, he stared at the top of his left hand, seeing the three triangles lit up with the top one being the brightest.

Eddy also stared at it with a curious expression. "Nice tattoo. I should make a note on that."

"Congratulations, Master," Fi said, her lips curving up slightly. "Now that it has been tempered by the last of the sacred flames, your blade has finally revealed its true form. You now hold the Master Sword."

"Master Sword?" Link asked, glancing at the hilt.

"With this sword's great power, you can awaken the Gate of Time within the Sealed Temple. Let us head there now." She returned back to the sword.

"Okay, let's get out of here." Everyone else began to exit the room with only him and Eddy remaining.

"Uh, Link?" Eddy asked.

"Yes?"

Eddy crossed his arms, but he glanced away with a regretful look. "About my advices back then... Sorry, dude. I didn't realize that someone like you...would act like that in battle. You kinda...scared me."

"Oh... I'm sorry."

Eddy sighed. "Don't sound like a broken record."

Link nodded with a smile. "But I'm good now, Eddy. I won't let myself be reminded of that battle. You should do it, too."

"Yeah, yeah." Eddy stared at him with a mean look. "Just don't tell anyone that I said sorry to you, okay? I got a reputation to hold."

Link chuckled. "Sure."

When the group returned back to the entrance of the Fire Sanctuary, Link called the Loftwings like usual. "Well, we gotta go," Link said to Gorko. "We can't rest now."

"See ya later, Gorko!" Eddy said, waving.

Gorko scratched his head. "Uh... Yeah, about that..." he began. "I think...this is the last time we'll see each other." Everyone gasped.

"What?! Why?!"

"When that guy stabbed me multiple times...I really thought I was gonna die until Link saved me. I realized that as long as him and his underlings wander around the surface, my exploration is no longer safe for me."

"Oh, Gorko..." Link said with a sad look. "I'm s-"

"Ahem!" Eddy said, coughing.

"E-er, right."

"It's okay, Link," Gorko said. "I'll be heading back home and stay there until I think peace returns. Until then, stop that guy and save the world... No, everything!" He put up a grin of confidence. "We may be apart, but we're Sworn Brothers! Make my dreams come true once you gain peace." He turned to the Eds. "As for you three, keep going forward in your future adventures, no matter what."

Ed started to weep, then cried out with tears. "I'll miss you, Gorko!" he said, then tackled him into a hug.

"Ah, a hug! How 'bout a big Goron hug, everyone?"

Eddy and Double D glanced each other with nervous looks. "Uh, I don't want-" Eddy said until Gorko grabbed him and everyone else. Everyone, except Gorko and Ed, expressed discomfort from the Goron's strength until he let go. "Geez, can you at least give us a warning?!"

Gorko laughed. "Sorry, Eddy. Well, get a move on!" Link and the Eds hopped onto their respective rides.

"It was a fabulous experience meeting you, Gorko!" Double D said, smiling while wiping a tear. "Continue studying archaeology!"

"I'll miss you!" Ed said, crying even more.

"Get over it, Ed!" Eddy said before facing Gorko. He smirked as his eyes squinted. "It's been a blast." As Gorko turned to Link, a drop came out of Eddy's eye.

"Once we restore peace," Link began, "I'll come for you. This isn't a goodbye; we'll definitely meet again."

"Keep your promise, Link!" Gorko said. "I want to see you alive!" He stepped back as the Loftwings flapped up and fly away. "Goodbye, Eds! Take care of yourself!"

"Goodbye, Gorko!" the three Eds replied, each with their own tearful expression. Once Gorko saw the two dots disappearing, he put up a strong smile before walking back home.

When the Loftwings descended down to the back of the Sealed Temple, something caught Link's eye. He looked at the giant pit of the Sealed Grounds. "What's that?" he asked.

"What's what?" Ed asked.

"The black fences... Er, we're descending too fast. I think we'll find out sooner or later." Once the group landed to their destination, they moved to the side of the Sealed Temple and entered inside.

Old Impa and Groose stood at the side, staring at the inactive Gate of Time. They heard a noise from across the room, seeing the group. "You have returned," she said. "Have you purified your sword with all three flames, Link?"

"Yes," Link answered, pulling it to show it.

She awed at it. "Ah, your sword! There can be no doubt. The sacred flames have purified this blade. Well done, you four. That sword holds tremendous power."

"What? How powerful?" Eddy asked, raising an eyebrow.

"That power is a sacred force. It is divine power left to us by the gods of old. The same power that is spoken of in the Ballad of the Goddess." She stared at Link. "To look upon you is to see that same great power, now flowing through you and the sword you carry. Come, Link. You must open the Gate of Time. Now that the sacred force dwells within your blade, strike the Gate of Time with a Skyward Strike and it will surely awaken."

"Where do I stand?" Link asked.

She pointed in front of the slab. "Walk up to the pedestal, and show the gate your sword's power."

Double D smiled as his body shivered in excitement. "At long last, we can now see Zelda," he said.

"Go, Link, go!" Ed said as Link nodded at his friends. Link walked up to the pedestal, facing the slab. He pointed his sword and concentrated until the sword glowed blue. But before he swung down, the entire area started to rumble.

"Whoa-ho!" Groose said, gasping.

"No..." Old Impa said, biting her lips. "I fear the seal has given way once again. That terrible beast is awakening even as we speak."

"What?! Right now of all times?!" Eddy asked.

"It is likely that the monster reacted to the sacred power given off by Link's sword. I wish it had not happened, but there was no other way to open the gate. So it goes... Link, and the Eds, you must imprison the beast once again together."

"A-all right," Link replied, feeling his hand tensed.

"All right! Bring it on!" Groose said in confidence in contrast to Link. He glided his red pompadour. "This is what I've been waiting for. It's time to break out my new toy! Trust me, that flabby bag of teeth doesn't stand a chance. Well? What are we waiting for? I'm heading out there!" He ran out of the main gate as the rest followed him outside. The group, except Old Impa, gasped at what they saw. A wooden, yet well-made, sturdy rail track surrounded the entire large pit, which Link saw earlier.

"Uh... Was this here?" Ed asked, scratching his head.

"Over here!" The group turned to their right to see Groose standing on a wooden-constructed catapult with a large bomb on it. "Duh huh huh! Try not to drool on your shirt as your stare at this amazing superweapon I've been working on! I call it...the Groosenator!" He giggled even more to see Link and the Eds still with their gaping expressions. "Leaves you speechless, doesn't it? That's only natural. You wouldn't believe how much time I put into building this beauty."

"We're speechless because where did this rail track came from?!" Eddy asked. "You built all of this?!"

"Yeah! First, I got all the fences cluttering the area out of the way. Then I laid down rails for her to run on. All by myself, of course. I don't know what came over me! I had no clue I had the talent to make something like this, you know?"

"But that means...you built all of this in three days?!" Double D asked. Gaepora was right. He has talent.

"Yeah, yeah! Enough with the details!" The rumbling began to increase. "Anyhow, I'll fire a giant bomb and put a hurting on that ugly monster! I don't care how beefy you guys are; you're bound to stumble for a few moments after taking one of my big bombs to the body! Hang on, though. That monster showed up a smidge sooner than I was expecting. There are a few final adjustments I gotta make before she can move on the rails I've put down. I'll call out to you when she's ready for action. Till then, do whatever you can to hold off that beast!"

"You got it!" Ed said, saluting him heading to the edge to hover down to the pit. "Come on, Link!"

"Uh, coming!" Link replied, about to follow him before he stopped and turned around. "Double D, I really going to need the zeal's power. You remembered what happened the last time we fought that beast, right?"

"O-of course," Double D answered, then glanced away. "But..."

"Trust me, Double D. I won't repeat the same experience when I fought Ghirahim. I lost control of my anger, and I'm sorry...for what you and your friends saw." He saw Double D bringing out his Zeal Wand and starring at it. A sudden rumble almost made everyone drop down to the ground.

"Just do it, Double D!" Eddy said.

Double D quickly nodded. "I know, Eddy!" he said. "But there's only enough energy for one blast. I estimate that I can use it again if the battle progresses further."

"That's fine!" Link said as Double D fired a ball of zeal to him. Feeling a little bit of confidence, Link leaped out the level to follow Ed.

Eddy grabbed Double D and shook him. "We're no match for that monster unlike those two!" he said with a fearful look.

"I-I agree," Double D said, gulping. "But there must be some way to help."

Eddy looked around, then spotted Groose on his Groosenator. "I got it! We'll help Groose fire those bombs! And we'll be safe!" He rushed to the catapult.

"For once, I agree with you!" He followed behind Eddy as the two reached Groose.

Groose peered up from his working. "Huh? You two ain't going?" he asked.

"We do not have the capabilities that Link and Ed possesses. We wish to assist in any shape or form."

"Well, what can the two of you do?"

"I can calculate the bomb's trajectory!"

"I can shoot!" Eddy added.

"Look," Groose began, "I am the only one that knows how to operate the Groosenator! Let me shoot a bomb first, okay?"

Meanwhile, Ed reached down to the bottom of the pit, followed by Link. Like before, the seal spewed out black flames, opening up a large hole. The Imprisoned popped out and let out its terrifying roar as Ed and Link gasped at something new.

"Uh... Is something different about this monster?" Ed asked.

"What the?! It has two large black arms?!" Link asked.
