Damn Him
Nero wanted to close his eyes after that but Dante rolled onto his back and then onto his side and started shaking his partner.
"C'mon, you can't be doin that now." He said softly, trying to rouse the younger, Nero grumbled
"Why not, there's no demons in this room."
"But there are in the next room, can you feel them?" he mumbled into the partial devil's ear. Nero sighed and focused, and in fact, felt the massive presence in the room next to theirs. It felt familiar, but in his weariness Nero didn't care to try and identify it.
"You think it's the bird or the knight?" he grumbled to the half devil who just snickered at his lover's appearance.
"The bird, and jeez, you'd think that I'd be the one ready for a nap, but you look like I just wore you out." He stuck his tongue out at the younger boy who punched him in the shoulder for his troubles.
"You're an ass," he sighed and stood up, adjusting his clothes as best he could as they were still soaking wet, he checked Red Queen to assure that the Exceed system was still in a functional state, it was thank god but he'd have to do some serious maintenance when they got back from this mission.
"So… you ready to go?" Dante asked as he clipped the last belt of his still wet vest back together.
"I suppose, got nothing better to do huh?" he grumbled, Dante slapped him on the back and laughed
"That's the spirit!" they entered the next room calmly, both immediately dodging out of the way of the expected energy beam that the giant bird shot at them. They knew it was coming, he had been waiting on them, what else did they expect? The whole fight was mostly a fire fight, the two hunters firing frustratingly into the sky as the monstrosity circled them from above.
"Goddamit, why doesn't he come down here and fight us himself?" Dante growled, Nero rolled to the side and let off another flurry of shots with Blue Rose.
"You can fly too in case you forgot." He pointed out to the red devil who paused, blinked and then Triggered without a second thought, shooting up into the sky to meet the monster. Nero limited his shots after that moment, trying to not hit his partner, only firing when he was sure he had a clear shot. It didn't take long after that until the monster let out a screech and started to plummet to the ground, Dante landed seconds after it did, allowing his demonic form to slip away easily. But then the monster twitched, rising to its feet and shaking off the dust.
"Oh come on!" the half devil groaned, Nero just shook his head and prepared his gauntlets. "This is ridiculous."
"Let's finish him off." The partial devil said, taking a fighting stance, Dante drew his sword and the monster roared at them, trying to be intimidating but both hunters just grinned.
-Wrinkle in Time-
It was a quick fight after that, the monster soon fell over on its side, thoroughly beaten now. The portal that it fell on started to glow and both hunter took a step forward, not wanting their kill to be taken from them but they needn't have worried about it as a massive pillar fell from the sky, landing squarely on top of the bird, crushing it beneath its weight. The monster screeched again, and then looked right at Dante, Nero felt his eye twitch in irritation
"Yours are definitely the powers of Sparda." It said, its voice low and grumbling, a stark contrast to its high pitched screeches "No…" it paused to breath "even more so… But I cannot let you live, for I serve my master Mundus." It started to try to rise and Nero clenched his fists
"You've got to be shitting me…"
"You can't fight with that wound." Dante pointed out to the monster, it didn't seem to perturbed by this as it continued to try and rise.
"Mighty is the power of Mundus!" it exclaimed and Nero felt a shiver go down his spine as he was reminded of many of the knights that would get up and keep fighting just for the sake of the Order, even though if they had stayed put they might have survived. The monster tilted its misshapen head to the sky
"Master! Please grant me one last surge of power… power to finish them!" both hunters looked to the sky, not expecting any response, both of them assuming it was just the ravings of a dying monster. Neither of them expected to see three glowing orbs to appear above the ridge, Nero saw the half devil stiffen next to him, the older boy clearly recognized this devil. So did the monster on the ground as it mumbled
"Master… Mundus…" A deep voice echoed through the air in that moment.
"Griffon… you have failed me… You are no longer worthy." Energy crackled through the air and struck the pillar pinning the griffon to the ground, creating a virtual lightning rod.
"Master… no…!" Nero turned his head, though the monster's screeching still filled his ears, it was hard to ignore. It finally stopped and he looked back up to the ridge in time to see the three orbs fading away as the devil's laughter echoed in the air.
"Damn him…" Dante growled, his fists clenched
A/N: Okay so I didn't get as far in this chapter but I think it was okay, got the entire battle in, according to the cutscenes I'm about half way through the content of DMC1 I'm gonna try and shorten up the rest, I hope that's okay with everyone.
Till next time,
