Karaoke

Fighting gang members was one thing. Fighting ninjas, aliens, and weird mutants was another. But where Cristen Noelle Lopez drew the line in the sand was public speaking. It seemed strange for others who had seen her dance that she would have any kind of stage fright. But to her, using her body and her voice were completely different things. Doing a solo in front of an auditorium full of people with a camera crew catching your every move? Easy. Presenting a project in front of your class of 20 while half of them are asleep? Terrifying. She just didn't trust her voice in front of people. That's why Mikey was whining when she responded to his karaoke offer with a solid no.

"But whyyyyyy? Everyone loves karaoke."

"Not me."

Somehow Mikey had gathered everyone in front of the television including April and Casey to sing karaoke. Cristen had already been sitting on the couch reading and before she knew it the orange banded turtle was sticking a mike in her face.

"Leave her alone Mikey. Some people don't like to sing."

She glanced at Leo silently thanking him and he nodded.

"Why don't you go first Mikey." Leo suggested. Mikey quickly forgot about convincing Cristen to participate and picked out a song.

He ended up singing Rude by Magic switching out human with mutant. The whole thing was hilarious as she sang most of it to April which pissed off Donnie to the point where he volunteered to go next.

"I choose Lucky by Jason Mraz and oh look it's a duet. Hey April do you..."

"No can do Donnie boy." Raph interrupted.

"What?"

"I already chose that song."

"What? You can't.."

"Actually he did." Mikey said. "I thought it was weird to dude, but what can you do."

Donnie was flustered. "But...it's a duet. Who are you gonna sing it with?" His gaze flickered over to April and Raph rolled his eyes.

"Who do you think brainiac."

Cristen who had watched the whole ordeal with amusement suddenly tensed up.

"Raph."

"C'mon babe. It not gonna be that bad."

"No you don't understand."

He pulled her up and placed the microphone between her fingers.

"Are you gonna tell me that you can't sing?" He said low so noone else could hear. "Cause that's bullshit. You sing every morning in the shower."

"You listen to me in the shower?"

"No. I can hear it though the wall. My rooms right next door remember."

"Ready guys?!" Mikey called.

Cristen took a shaky breath and Raph smirked.

"Just look at me ok."

She nodded and he began to sing the first part. He had a nice voice. So nice in fact that Cristen almost missed her line.

B-boy I hear you in my dreams

I feel you whisper across the sea

I keep you with me in my heart

You make it easier when life gets hard

They sang the chorus together and Cristen eyes never left Raph's. She was grateful that she knew the song well enough that she didn't have to look at the lyrics. By the next time she had to sing by herself her voice had evened out. The rest of the song flew by and soon the music faded out. Everyone started to clap.

"Nice pipes Lopez." Complimented Casey.

"Thanks." she said shyly.

"I knew you could do it." Raph whispered to her as they sat down. Cristen smiled sweetly and put her hand on his cheek.

"Thanks for believing in me. Now next time I see a roach, I'm gonna believe in YOU and make YOU kill it."

Raph's eyes widened and Leo who was sitting next to him laughed.

"She said she didn't want to sing."
