"Em, Em, Oh my God. Thank you God." Alison yells up toward the ceiling. "Toby?" Emily croaks, reaching for the glass of water on her bedside table. "He's fine, I got him out like you asked. You took most of the explosion because you were behind him, in a way. I'm just glad you're okay." Alison replies. "How long have I been out?" Emily asks, her voice better but still a bit raspy. Alison looks to her in a small way of concern. "Em, you've been out for three days." Alison replies. "What?" Emily yells as she goes to sit up, Alison stops her. "Emmy, just rest, by the time we got you here you were nearly dead. They had to operate, the burns were horrible but now that you're awake, we can get you out of here." Alison says in return.
Emily and Alison arrive at Spencer's house. "I talked to your mom and there are people fixing the windows for the next couple of days so you can stay at my house." Alison says with a small smile. An awkward silence falls in the car. "Em, don't ever ask me to do that again, put someone else before you because I won't do it again." Alison finally says. "Ali." Emily says but Alison cuts her off. "No Emily, I will not put you behind anyone else ever again. I was so scared when I came back and you were unconscious." Alison says. "You promised me Emily! None of this martyr shit and yet you still do it." Alison adds, again cutting Emily off before she even spoke. "Ali, I can't change who I am. I want to help people and I won't stop putting before myself." Emily finally replies. "What about me Emily? I know it's selfish but if you died saving someone then I will be the one to die too! You may be thinking about everyone but yourself but you are forgetting about me too." Alison replies. Emily lets her head drop. Realisation finally starts to kick Emily in the stomach. Another silence. "I'm sorry Alison, you're right, I have been too selfless and not just of myself but you too. I'm sorry." Emily breaks the silence, her head still dropped. She then gets out of the car leaving Alison sitting there. Alison gets out also. "No Em, we are not done." Alison calls out. "You don't just get to say sorry and walk off. Emily!" Alison adds as she watches Emily walk into Spencer's house. "Emily, hey." Spencer says as Emily walks into the living room. "Hey." Emily murmurs. "You okay? How are you?" Spencer replies in question. "Yeah I'm alright, just tired, do you mind if I have a nap in your bed?" Emily asks. Spencer nods and Emily heads upstairs. Every step creating a larger ache throughout her body. She walks into Spencer's room and lies down on the bed, she listens as a door slams downstairs and Alison argues with Spencer. She then hears the thudding of a person walking up the stairs. Emily sits up just as Alison marches into the room. "We aren't done." Alison demands. "I don't have anything else to say Ali, I told you, you can't change who I am." Emily replies calmly. "Why are you so willing to give your life so other people can live theirs? You have a life too Emily, friends, a family, me. So why?" Alison asks furiously. "To repay for the mistakes I've made in the past." Emily blurts out in confession. Alison's face softens but still remains hurt. "What?" She asks. "God Ali, I have made so many mistakes in the past and I just want to allow someone to learn from their mistakes and move on and live their lives because I have." Emily calmly confesses. "So what? You give someone a second chance and you get nothing out of it!" Alison voice raises again. "You think I get nothing out of it!" Emily's anger bursts out in her voice. She stands up and lifts her shirt, revealing scars upon scars. Alison looks at Emily's stomach and chest and thinks about how similar it looks to Sarah's. Alison knew how pained and tortured Sarah was. 'Was Emily the same? Is she pained and tortured like Sarah was?' Alison asks herself. "This is what I get out of it! I would die for anyone to live their life but I never do! I never die and I get stuck with comas, scars, pain, the memories! I'm dying inside now because I am so scarred and always in pain. I wish sometimes I would die and just move on, let the person I save live but I never do because I think about you! I think about how beautiful you are and how I make you feel! I think about how I feel when we kiss or when I see you smile. I can't die because it means leaving the best part of me here to suffer. I am still here because of you and I can't die because it would mean I kill you inside. I fight so hard when I am on the verge of death and all I do is think about you and somehow I find a way to stay alive and re-live the same things over and over in my nightmares that you wake me up from. I give them another chance and I get scars and nightmares! That is what I get Alison!" Emily lets out all of her emotions. Tears streaming down her face. Alison stands in shock, looking at all the scars and burns left on Emily's skin. "Em." Alison musters. "No, don't. You seem to think that I get this satisfaction from saving people. I am glad for them but then I get left with the grief and suffering, I couldn't save my dad. I couldn't save you. So by trying to save others it brings me a little fulfilment but more pain." Emily cuts Alison off with her confessions. "What do you mean you couldn't save me? I'm right here Em." Alison replies. Emily sits down on the bed and takes a deep breath. "I tried to find you, I tried but you kept moving around. About a week after you handed yourself over, I found you and Bethany and I went to come after you but my knee gave out. The girls didn't know because they thought I stopped caring but I never stopped trying to find you. When the girls found you before I did and they brought you back, yes I was furious when I saw you because I couldn't be the one to save you. I made you all think I was mad because you left but I was mad because I couldn't be the one to bring you back. I messed up and I thought I lost you, and I couldn't live with myself. I'm sorry Ali, I'm so, so sorry I couldn't be the one to save you." Emily cries out. Alison couldn't believe what she was hearing. She was finally hearing what Emily had been holding onto for so long, the gut-wrenching truth for both of them. Alison sits down next to Emily and slides her shirt up, she observes Emily in front of her, in the midst of a breakdown. Alison reaches out and touches the scar across Emily's side. "You have nothing to be sorry for Emily. I'm still here, that's all that matters." Alison whispers. Emily's head moves upward, her eys meeting Alison's. "I need you." Emily finally says through her torrential tears. Alison doesn't respond with words only b smashing her lips on her wife's.
