Chapter 38

Kakashi walked into the village and was greeted by Izumo and Kotetsu at the new gates. A man Kakashi hadn't ever seen was standing with them.

"Hey, how's it going?" Izumo greeted Kakashi.

Kakashi said, "Danzo's dead."

The man asked, "Really?"

Kakashi nodded, reaching his hand forward, he asked, "So who are you?"

"I'm Eri, Genma's cousin." Eri took Kakashi's hand and smiled.

When Eri smiled, Kakashi thought that he looked familiar, but wasn't sure why. Kakashi said, "I didn't know Genma had a cousin."

Shikaku and Inoichi walked over. Shikaku told him, "We need to hold a meeting to elect a new hokage. We heard Danzo was dead from the ANBU."

Eri turned to Shikaku and Inoichi, "You're sure he's dead?"

Sai came forward and said in his usual calm voice, "Yes, Danzo is dead. Because I don't have the curse seal on my tongue anymore."

Genma walked up to hear Sai. Looking over he watched Eri place his hand on his chest and sigh.

"That's good." Eri sighed.

Kakashi and the others looked at him questioningly. "Why is that good, Eri?" Inoichi asked.

Eri smiled and transformed into Minako. Everyone's eyes opened wide with surprise. Shikaku and Kakashi stepped forward. Kakashi placed his hands on Minako's shoulders.

"That was a really good disguise." Kakashi commented as he stepped away, "but I'm glad you're back."

Shikaku laughed, "Go back to being Eri and come with us to the meeting."

Minako smiled and looked towards Genma, he smiled back and nodding went back to help Shizune.

"Why is he here?" Koharu asked Shikaku as she scowled at him.

Shikaku sat down with Eri standing behind him, "He is here because I asked him to."

Inoichi sat down with Kakashi standing behind him, "Let's get started on the meeting."

Homura said, "As we all know Tsunade is still in a coma and Danzo is now dead. We are here to nominate a new hokage. Inoichi, who do you nominate?"

Inoichi looked up and said, "I'm going to nominate Kakashi Hatake."

Koharu looked at Shikaku, "What about you? Do you have any objection or do you have someone else in mind?"

Shikaku stood up and crossing his hands in front of him said, "I do not have any objections to Inoichi's nomination. But I would like to nominate Minako ShiNara."

Homura and Koharu gasped. Homura was the first to speak, "But Minako is classified as a rogue shinobi."

Shikaku waved Sai forward, "Sai can tell you why she is a rogue shinobi." Shikaku stepped back to stand with Eri.

Sai told them about the root ANBU and how Danzo used the documents being stolen to his advantage. "So Danzo saw a way to get rid of Minako." Sai said quietly.

Shikaku stepped forward again, "I want Eri here to show you something."

Eri stepped forward and raising his shirt showed the burn and knife slashes across his chest and back. Homura and Koharu exclaimed in surprise.

"How did you get those scars?" Koharu asked.

Eri pulled his shirt down, "I was the one who got the documents and sent them back to the village with Jade. I took her place as captive, insuring the safety that she and the team would get back here with the documents."

"But I thought Minako was the one who went with them." Homura said with surprise.

Eri scowled at the elders. "Minako risked her life to keep the secrets of Konoha safe. She endured pain and she never gave up." Eri pointed his finger at them, "You have much to be grateful of her."

Koharu asked, "How would you know Minako suffered?"

Eri glared at them as he crossed his arms and transformed as he said, "I am Minako."

Homura and Koharu stood up as they gasped and placed their hands on the table. Pointing to her, Homura asked, "When did you get here?"

Minako stared at them coldly, "Genma and the others defied Danzo's orders and rescued me."

Homura sighed and sat back down, "All right, let's have a vote. Raise your hand if you want Kakashi Hatake as hokage." he said tiredly.

A third of the people raised their hand. Homura looked at the others sharply. They crossed their arms. Homura sighed, "All right, raise your hand if you want Minako ShiNara as hokage."

Kakashi and the others raised their hands. Homura stood up and holding his hands up was about to say something when a boy ran into the meeting.

Koharu glared at him, "Why are you here? Can't you see we are having a meeting?!"

"But, this is just as important. Tsunade's awake!" the boy said gasping for air.

Homura and Koharu looked at each other, Homura then said, "This meeting is dismissed."

Kakashi walked over to Minako and placing his hand on her shoulder smiled, "I think you would have been a good hokage."

Minako smiled at him, "I don't have to worry about it now."

Kakashi still smiling chuckled as they walked to the tent where Tsunade was, "I'm really glad I didn't get elected hokage."

Minako playfully punched him in the shoulder, Kakashi said, "Ow. Have you been working out while you were in your man form?"

Minako said, "No, I think that's what happens."

Kakashi smiled and they continued walking to see Tsunade.
