Entry #38

"I doubt he ever knew those feelings, dearest... but I do."

oOo

Location: The Royal Palace, Asgard

Date: September 23 / 24, 2013

In truth nothing else could have shocked her like that; her heart actually stopped beating for a moment, her eyes widening and her breath hitching in her throat as she stared at the male before her. Her first impulse compelled her to take a step toward him, but then anger suddenly shot through her veins as she realized he had, yet again, deceived her... by faking his own death, no less. And before she even fully realized what she was doing, she rushed toward him raising her hand with the intention to slap him, as he fully deserved; due to the shock she had gone through, however, she failed to notice that her body had tensed to the point where her hands had balled into fists.

It was only in the very instant when her hand collided with his cheek, that she realized she had actually punched him instead... but somehow she couldn't bring herself to fully regretting it, after that horrible trick he had played on her, letting her believe he was dead. The feeling of her knuckles against his face did make his head turn, Loki taking half of a step back. Still, there was no pain expressed in his facial features, but merely the remorse brought to him by the realization of just how deeply he had pained her. When it became clear that she had no more hits for him, he engulfed her in both arms, pulling her to his pectoral muscles.

"Forgive me, dearest..." he murmured.

As it always happened, his embrace melted away her anger and instead the young woman set her arms around his slender waist, latching onto him.

"You damn jerk!" she yelled even as she clung to him, her shoulders shaking as she failed to contain her tears anymore. "How could you do that to me?"

Granted, he had likely felt the same when everyone had believed her dead after the battle in New York... but she wasn't about to let him live it down without playing the victim for a bit.

"I had to come up with a way to be with you again... this was the only way." he softly said, kissing the side of her head.

Why was it that he always had to do such things to succeed toward his objectives? Who was the one to claim the blame for it all? Was it Odin, or had it been in his own hands all along? Loki would probably never know the answer to that. The following minutes she spent simply trying to settle down and stop crying, and at the same time simply relishing in the knowledge that Loki was indeed alive and that she wouldn't have to actually marry Odin and... it was then that a thought hit her, causing her to lean back until she could look up at him.

"Wait... if you were disguised as Odin... where's your father?" she asked, getting a sudden feeling of dread at what he might answer.

Loki locked eyes with her during the inquiry, letting it sink in; in that moment, his lips pressed flat together, his features turning blank. Even then, the dark taint that pervaded the orbs of a man who had done something heinous was all too prevalent – though he didn't say it, Odin had met his life's conclusion at the hands of Laufey's son.

That gaze alone was enough to let her know of what had happened, and she grasped onto his coat.

"Loki... what have you done?" she whispered, utterly shocked by the realization.

"I killed him." he finally admitted, no shred of remorse pervading his tone.

"So you did..."

Startled by the deep voice resounding from behind Loki, Kara now set her steel gaze upon Heimdall and her stomach tightened as she sighted the guardian bearing his sword. Wordless, Loki merely turned to face the Gatekeeper, his face an emotionless mask whilst he conjured Gungnir in his right hand and his armor shimmered onto his body; he had been careless for Kara's sake, but he definitely refused to go down without a fight.

"Your father was more than just my king..." Heimdall stated, readying his sword. "He was my friend. And your blind ambition to gain a throne will be your undoing."

Without another word both warriors lunged at each other, murderous intent written upon their faces.

"No!"

The young woman's shout was instantly followed by both Heimdall and Loki freezing in place before what seemed to be an invisible hand pushed them away from one another. By the time they had regained their stance and turned to face each other once more, Kara was standing in between them, facing the guardian with her arms wide open.

"Heimdall please... don't do this..." she begged, tears streaming on her pale cheeks.

Lowering his sword in the hopes of talking her into moving out of the way, the dark skinned male heaved a sigh; he definitely was not in the intention of taking an innocent life along with Loki's.

"Kara, what he did is treason..."

"Isn't it enough that he'll have to live with what he did, for the rest of his life? Killing him will solve nothing, other than leaving Asgard with no ruler. Thor won't return to take the throne, even if Loki dies; he wants nothing more than to be with Jane on Earth and you should know that by now. And Asgard needs a king..."

"He is not fit to rule... the power would only consume him."

"Thor agreed that Loki understands ruling in a way that he never will. I know he will be a good king; for all his trickery and mischief, he cares for this realm... for his home. Please, Heimdall. You cared for him once... I know you did; just as you cared for Thor."

Silence followed her last trembling words, the Gatekeeper contemplating her words; with all said and done he still did care for both Loki and Thor just as much. But was Loki truly fit to take his father's place on the throne? He could only hope he would not come to regret putting his trust in Kara's words. Ultimately heaving another long sigh, he closed his right fist placing it over his heart whilst he lowered himself onto one knee.

"Then from now on I am sworn to obey you... my king." he stated, looking to the dark haired Æsir.

The sheer relief which flooded her being would have had Kara collapsing to the ground, had Loki not been standing behind her to wrap an arm around her waist and keep her on her feet. With Heimdall standing, the green eyed male merely nodded his permission for the Gatekeeper to return to his post; his battling mood had all but vanished, less from relief and more from the overwhelming love and gratitude that he felt for the wonderful woman he was currently holding. He knew Heimdall would have easily killed him, had they actually battled... but Kara had not only saved his life, she had also truly instated him as king of Asgard.

Discarding the spear, he instead brought that hand to her cheek, turning her face to him and leaning to claim her lips in a loving kiss.

"Thank you, dearest..." he whispered tenderly.

"Don't let me down..." the young woman replied. "Be a good king."

OoOoO

It was early the next day that Loki had pulled himself out of bed and had summoned Tyra to the king's chambers – which he now shared with Kara – in the utmost silence, given that his lover was still asleep; he was in a very generous mood and so he would fulfill the desire he knew Kara had secretly nurtured for a long time... to see him again as he had been when they'd met; with that in mind he had Tyra cut his hair, then had taken a bath and donned a pair of leather pants and a sleazy black tunic; it was one of his more informal outfits, but he needed a bit of time to relax before he would have to change his attire.

When Tyra left the chambers to retrieve one of the dresses she and the other maids had sewn for Kara – as per one of Frigga's last orders to them – the dark haired Æsir was left to sit next to his beloved and grasp her hand, leaning over to place a gentle kiss to her cheek.

"Wake up, love..." he whispered, his free hand coming up to the top of her head to stroke her hair.

With the young woman startled from her slumber, she glanced sleepily at him; and then a soft gasp left her, and her eyes widened while her lips twitched into a smile.

"You cut your hair..." she said in awe, reaching to the back of his head and trailing her fingers over his silky strands.

"I have no preference for it, dearest... but you do."

"Well... you do look more like a prince, like this."

"Do I, now?" he huffed in amusement.

"Yes." Kara retorted with a playful pout. "You looked like some raggedy stray with that unkempt hair."

Holding back the chuckle he felt rising in his throat, he merely arched a brow to distract her, and within moments the young woman's laughter filled the chambers when he slipped his hands beneath the covers to tickle her. It wasn't until she pulled him over her and kissed him that he relented, favoring wrapping his arms around her instead, while he eagerly delved into the sweet warmth of her lips.

"You incorrigible jester..." she mock-scolded him once he allowed her a breather. "I'm still angry at you for that stunt, though."

"Oh, I believe I can make you forgive me, love."

"You sound really sure of yourself." the woman replied, arching a brow in jest.

"Have you ever known me to not be sure of myself?" he smirked smugly.

"Oh, I'm sorry... I meant to say you sound really arrogant."

Playfully narrowing his eyes at her, the dark haired Æsir let loose another amused huff.

"Wooh... going below the belt, dearest?"

"Of course..." she replied, wrapping an arm around his neck and lazily pecking his lips. "That's part of my territory..."

His confused expression as he tried to figure out what she meant by that, instantly morphed into an awed one, and he felt his eyes widening at the sensation of her hand touching his groin and giving a taunting momentary squeeze to his member.

"I do love it when you try to be in charge, dearest..." he smirked, a mischievous spark coming to his eyes.

It was when he leaned to kiss her again, that Tyra knocked on the door and her presence alone was enough to remind them of what they had to do that day.

"Well now you have something to think about all day." she chuckled in the face of his displeased expression.

"Oh, I'll make you eat those words tonight, love." he promised.

Standing to go and let Tyra in, he then took advantage of the brief solitude offered to him when the maid went to help Kara bathe, to try and calm himself. Once the two females had returned from the bathing chamber, he changed into the familiar battle attire and stepped over to the wooden stand holding his armor, adjusting the fit of golden metal over raven leather and emerald material. He would never admit to being ever so faintly nervous... but it was indeed true, now. Exhaling through his nose, he glanced at the stone floor, wringing together his palms. Today was a new beginning... this was something he just had to keep in mind.

By then Tyra had been brushing Kara's hair, utterly unable to wipe off the wide smile from her face; she was so happy that Loki was alive, but more than that she was happy to see Kara happy again. Upon looking at Loki in the mirror and sighting that odd expression on his face, however, Kara now reached to grasp the girl's hand.

"Would you leave us for a minute, please?" she said softly.

Nodding with a smile, Tyra lightly bowed to both of them and rushed out of the chambers while Kara turned to face the dark haired Æsir and moved to her feet.

"What's wrong?" she asked, a slightly concerned shade taking over her features.

The hunter green and dark cow skin shifted as his feet did; he hadn't expected Kara to say or see anything, due to her attention being diverted.

"I suppose I'm just anxious. Becoming a king has been my goal for such a long time... I had started to wonder if it would ever come to pass."

What would happen now? Had he been too brash? Had he ended up being wrong in killing Odin, after all? Approaching him with a warm smile, Kara now leaned up to set her arms around his neck and lovingly kissed his cheek.

"You will be a good king... you always were fit to rule." she whispered against his smooth skin. "Just remember that a king cares for his people as he does for his own family. Never forget that and you will be a good king."

She definitely had not expected him to be nervous after so many years of craving a throne; but it was precisely that nervousness which told her he was indeed on the right path to becoming a great ruler. It was at her touch that much of his tension flushed away, eyelids closing as he savored her loving tones. When she had stopped talking, his own upper extremities reached to stroke her limbs.

"So it is true... there really is an incredible queen behind every great king."

In this instance, all he wanted to do was forget everything and spend time caressing Kara, touching the woman and holding her against him. The trickster could listen to her talk for hours and never tire of it, but he could also relish in the concept of resting against her without a single word.

"I am no queen..." she retorted humorously, leaning back to smile at him. "Just the mortal who was lucky enough to gain the love of a god."

Once more leaning up she kissed his lips this time, taking a moment to simply relish in that sweet, sweet taste she was so familiar with by now. And it was in moments like this that she always recalled her father's last words... it was indeed worth the struggle, despite how fleeting happiness was. When their faces met in such an intimate way, Loki's gaze waned, lids closing whilst his hands moved behind Kara's back. Regardless of her words, she was so amazing to him, so... absolutely everything. Maybe defeating Odin hadn't been such a poor decision; if left alive, he would have opposed them until the bitter end. Now? There were none to intervene between them.

Deciding to end the kiss a few moments later, despite how much she just wanted to keep it going, the young woman now trailed a hand through his raven strands.

"We should go... or you'll miss your own coronation." she smiled.

In truth she was probably just as nervous as him, if not more; while Heimdall had accepted Loki on the throne, she didn't know what the people of Asgard thought of him.

Upon arriving at the throne room after a hasty walk, he slowed his pace at the door and walked the carpet that gave him a straight route toward the seat of the king. After heads had turned, he could hear the rumbling of many voices, but maintained stoicism along his route. If not for the fact that he had slain his so-called father, he would regret the fact that his mother couldn't be there. Then again – if Frigga hadn't died – he would have allowed the elder king to live.

Given that she wasn't supposed to stand at his side for this as she wasn't his wife, based on what Tyra had told her about the coronation ceremony, Kara merely followed after him. Upon arriving near the front of the hall, however, she grasped his arm and leaned toward him.

"You should probably wear your helmet too..." she winked.

Releasing him afterwards, she moved to stand with the crowd. Upon sighting Sif and her two companions nearby, she shot them a stern glance when they looked at her questioningly and shook her head lightly so as to discourage them from trying to start anything. Loki's helmet did shortly appear over his brows as he neared the throne, eyeballing Heimdall for just a second. Turning to face the massive horde of Asgardians, he sighed out at the once-in-a-lifetime feeling that coursed through him. Truly, this was going to be a long day. As he glanced over the people, however, his superior vision granted him a view of two of the Warriors Three and the woman named Sif; just to think that he had once loved her and now could barely stand her presence.

With Loki now standing before the throne, Heimdall who had been standing at the right side of the golden, winged chair, turned to face the Asgardians gathered in the hall. His hands clasped at his front around the hilt of his sheath-less sword, he lowered his arms and lightly hit the floor with the blade's tip; yet despite that the sound echoed throughout the immense room, much like a strike from Gungnir itself, silencing all the murmurs buzzing in the air.

"Odin has passed from this life... and Thor has renounced his right to the throne." he said, his deep tone rumbling over the crowd. "Therefore the line of succession now falls to the younger prince. Asgard, hail your king... Loki, Odin's son!"

Sooo today's replies for my darlings :D

1. Guest - Aww no worries love, I know that everyone who follows this story loves it (or something about it), otherwise they wouldn't follow/favorite it. But it's my duty as a writer to ask for reviews, because feedback is the best and fastest way to improve my style.

So no worries, I know y'all love this story and I'm so happy that I could offer everyone something to enjoy and help them take their mind off life at least for a bit :D

2. americanlatinajapanesegirl - Hehehe what kind of Loki fan would I be, if I didn't enjoy his most delightful trait - teasing others? ;)

As for the next chapters, I hope they'll be longer; usually I don't start writing a chapter with a set length in mind - that just feels restrictive. I go with the flow of the story and usually I instinctively know when I need to cut the thread and continue in the next chapter. So it's more instinct than planning, really, and so far it seems to work pretty well. I'd love to be able to write 20-30 page long chapters, like other writers, but I doubt I'll ever get there, so please bear with me on this.

And I'm so happy you got that feeling that you wanted to cry at that scene; that was my original intention, to write it well enough that the readers could easily imagine how much anguish Kara had inside her, knowing the only man she ever loved was dead and she was forced to marry his father. And at the same time how much she actually loved Loki... so if you at least got a knot in your throat, then it means I did my job right ;)

3. LadyAmazon - Haha I was initially intending to have her make a huge scene of it, but then that isn't really in Kara's nature. She's always been a discrete person - at least as much as she could - so it just didn't seem right to have her yell at him or be overly dramatic about it. So... this chapter came out as a result and I hope you're not too disappointed :)

4. cerilene ross - Welcome back, darling, I'm so happy to see you around here again! :D

I'm so glad you still enjoy the story and the characters. And no worries, take your time to review there's no deadline for it. As for your previous review, I couldn't reply in any other way, because it was just so lovely and heartwarming and humbling and encouraging and I stick by what I said back then. Thank you is much less than what I should say!

So I hope you have a great time rereading the story and that it will keep you just as entertained as before :D

5. BrittanyBamtastic - Well here it is, darling, sorry I kept you waiting for a whole week ;)

I'll admit, the feeling that you lost everyone you hold dear isn't something you can easily imagine. But I lost my mom when I was ten so I have some background emotions to draw on when I write those scenes, and that makes it a lot easier to write them well (as ironic as that may seem).

But I hope you enjoyed this chapter, love, and that I'll hear from you again soon :D

6. Uncontrollable-book-nerd - Haha well she did... more or less. She'll have him pay for it in some subtle way later, no worries ;)

7. Guest - Aww thank you so much for the enthusiasm, darling. Hope you enjoyed this chapter as well :D

8. Sloane Raine - I'll reply to both your reviews in one go, darling :)

First, don't forget that Loki had a little spat with Kara on the day of his mother's burial ceremony, when he found out she traded her life to Odin in exchange for him being released from his cell, because she basically made it impossible for him to flee Asgard with her. But we all know Loki is arrogant so it wouldn't be surprising if he agreed to have her go with them and Jane, with the intention of escaping with her from Svartalfheim - where there were no guards to hinder him. I probably should have stated that in a more obvious way, it was probably too subtle xD

Second, I'm sorry it was so short, I just couldn't put any heart into the whole Malekith business because I didn't care about Malekith; he was just a generic villain with nothing that made him stand out. As for Loki's reason, well he was disguised as Odin so he had to act and think like Odin, to keep up his disguise. And any king who loses his wife and son - and has his elder son give up the throne - is forced to take another wife to ensure he leaves an heir. So it was more a political reason that he offered Thor for keeping Kara - as the real Odin would have, because of her unusual abilities.

As for why he resorted to that, instead of just asking to talk to her privately and revealing himself - I think that's explained a bit in the chapter you just read (namely that he couldn't drop the disguise just anywhere, lest Heimdall saw him and came to kill him). And because this is Loki... he never does things in a simple manner, he always likes to complicate everything - and he wanted to test Kara's love for him as well, because yeah he still has a bit of trust issues. Anyone would likely have those, after what he's been through xD

Hope I covered everything in my reply, darling, and that it shed a bit more light on those scenes. I'm always happy when my readers point out things like this, because I sometimes tend to forget that people can't read my mind, and that if I don't state things clearly, it won't make sense to them even if it makes sense to me.

9. Lady Syndra - And here you have it, darling. Hope you enjoyed it and that future chapters will keep you just as entertained :D

10. Moriah98 - No worries, love, I didn't expect any reviews at all for the previous two chapters because I know how poor their quality is. I'm glad you enjoyed the bits with Loki and Kara and I hope this chapter was entertaining as well... it'll only get better from here on ;)

I hope no one will be disappointed that I cut Loki's hair (I know a lot of fangirls loved him with long hair), but I personally liked him a lot better in the first Thor movie, because short hair just made him look more like Prince Charming. They probably tried to illustrate his fall from royalty by changing his appearance to a more wild one, but I much more prefer the idea of a monster disguised as a beautiful prince.

And thank you so much for the compliments, darling. Really it's so heartwarming and humbling to know you think so highly of me. I shall try to not disappoint you and I hope future chapters will keep you just as entertained because there's only more of Loki and Kara to come ;)

So these are my replies for today. Cheers, lovelies~ ( ˘ ³˘)❤
