5YL the Adventure Begins
Part 38
On Saturday morning, Sebastian was already up and enjoying a cup of coffee when Jeff and Nick showed up. Seeing the two so early in the morning, he could only hope that nothing was wrong. After inviting them in, Nick didn't wait long to hand Sebastian the envelope once he reassured him nothing was wrong. "These tickets are nearly impossible to get, how?" Sebastian asked as he looked at the tickets with an awestruck expression, one for each night of the week-long celebration.
"You do remember that Sophie works there, right?" Nick said and Sebastian nodded. "Well, your loving boyfriend asked her for a favor and she came through for him, or technically you since you'll be the one going." He answered as they all went to sit down in the living room.
"Wait, B did this, for me?"
"Yes, he did that for you." Nick told him happily. "The only thing he wishes was that he could be here to take part in the celebration with you. He knows how important your heritage is to you."
"Why didn't he say anything to me about it, I mean we spoke last night?"
"It's a surprise." Jeff said with a laugh. "For someone so smart, you can be so dense sometimes." Sebastian simply looked at Jeff before looking back at the tickets, a smile one couldn't really describe plastered on his face.
"Do you mind if I call him, I mean, I don't want to be rude but…"
"Call him Sebastian." Nick replied but soon Jeff put his hand up. "What?"
"Blaine's doing an interview this morning." Jeff stated which Sebastian had simply forgotten about in the moment. "If I remember correctly, we should be able to stream it online. Then you can give him a call." Sebastian nodded before reaching for the coffee table where his laptop sat. While they were waiting for it to boot up, the bell rang so Jeff got up to answer it. Upon opening the door, he was surprised to find Hunter standing before him. "What are you doing here so early?" Jeff asked as he stepped aside so Hunter could come in.
"I could ask you the same thing considering what time it is." Hunter replied while Jeff closed the door behind him. "What…Duval, what are you doing here?" He asked as they reached the living room.
"That seems to be the big question this morning." Sebastian said as he looked at him. "Morning Hunter."
"Morning! If I knew you had company, I would've called." Hunter replied as he took a seat.
"Relax, they only showed up a few minutes before you did as they were delivering something from B. Speaking of, he's about to go on the air so anything you all have to say will have to wait." With that said, everyone relaxed as while Sebastian spoke and host had said they'd be back with Blaine after the commercial.
Now we're back and pleased to have Blaine Anderson joining us this morning. For those of you that have been living under a rock, Blaine is currently the hottest thing in music at the moment. And if you don't believe me, as of this morning his debut album which only came out on Tuesday is sitting at number five on the charts. Plus his first two singles which we play constantly, are sitting in the top twenty, one of them in the top ten. Safe to say, this Ohio-born, New York living boy has made his way into the hearts of the music loving public. Good morning Blaine and welcome to Chicago!
"Thank you for having me, and that incredible introduction."
Every bit of it was true as you're one of the artists we get the most requests for. Hopefully we didn't get you up too early this morning as you only got back on the road after a week in New York promoting your album.
"I appreciate that, so thank you to everyone requesting my music. As for early, this was sleeping in compared to the hours I was keeping in New York. My first morning in town, I was up at three for what ended up being a whirlwind day in every possible way."
Did you end up doing anything besides promoting it that day or was it all work and no play?
"I did. My boyfriend threw me a party to celebrate. He told me we were going out to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants and when we got there, family and friends surprised me. He made certain my parents and close friends that didn't live in the area were there."
It sounds to me as though he knows you pretty well.
"He does, at times I believe he knows me better than I know myself, but the same could be said in regards to me about him."
Hearing you talk about him shines even more light on your debut single which you've confirmed is about him and your relationship. Is he a big influence when it comes to your writing?
"It all depends on the moment, though he does inspire me a great deal as do other things I've been through in my life."
Speaking of your life and we spoke about this off-air beforehand as you've made it clear there are things you don't care to talk about. Yet, it's been said and you confirmed to me that, yes you've been married, but also got divorced.
"That is true. That experience caused me to reexamine a lot of things I thought I knew, and believed."
From what you've said, I'm gathering it wasn't a great experience and I don't need confirmation on that from you. But I'm curious, did that put you off of marriage or would you consider getting married again?
"No, it didn't put me off of marriage as it's something I believe in. So yes, I'd consider it again with."
The rest of the interview seemed to drift off into the distance as soon three sets of eyes fell upon Sebastian who was sitting in the corner of the couch. "Why are you all staring at me?" Sebastian said as he looked at all of them. "Stop! It's creeping me out!"
"Did you happen to know how Blaine felt about the topic of marriage or is this something new to you?" Hunter asked as he turned to face him as Sebastian's expression had changed when the question was posed to him. "Sebastian?"
"I knew." Sebastian replied. "Think about it Hunter, we've spoken about it at great lengths."
"Wait a minute, back up!' Jeff exclaimed as he moved to sit on the table in front of Sebastian. "You were talking about marriage."
"We were talking about it." Hunter said before placing what looked like a ring box on the table. "Think about it, before Blaine came into his life again, Sebastian was probably one of the most cynical people when it comes to relationships. So I knew I could get an honest answer from him as we're on the same page."
"Is that what I think it is?" Nick asked as he looked at the ring box on the table. "Are you proposing to Kimberly?" For the first time Nick or Jeff could remember, the smile that crept to Hunter's face was truly sweet as he nodded. "That's great man!"
"Thanks!" Hunter replied once Jeff congratulated him as well. "I picked up the ring last night and Sebastian told me he wanted to see it before I gave it to her. Wanted to make sure it was suitable for her." While he spoke, Sebastian had picked the box up off the table and opened it. "So, do I get your seal of approval?"
"She's going to freaking love it." Sebastian told him proudly. "Just tell me the stone is flawless otherwise I'll change my opinion of it."
"Yes, it's flawless, like her." When a resounding aww echoed through the room, Hunter leaned his head back as he knew he opened himself up to that. "Here's hoping she loves it as much as you do."
"Oh, she's going to." Jeff said as he looked at the ring. "It's gorgeous Hunter. Do you mind me asking what got you thinking of making it official?"
"Not at all as it is pretty simple, I can't imagine my life without her." Hunter replied. "The fact that she has to travel for work, it reinforces how a part of me is missing when we're not together. It's something the two of us have talked about."
"That's something I can relate to. I don't believe any of my other relationship would've withstood us having to be apart."
"It takes a special sort of love and trust to be able to have a relationship of this nature."
"It really does." Sebastian said which earned him another look from the guys. "Just say what you're thinking?"
"Have you personally thought about marriage, or more exactly, marrying Blaine?" Nick asked him.
"The thought might have crossed my mind." Sebastian replied. "I mean, the same way Hunter feels for Kimberly, I can't imagine my life without him. Yet after everything he's been through, I don't want to rush things with as well as they're going. B and I know how we feel about one another and where we stand. Not to mention, he hasn't even been officially divorced for a year."
"We weren't asking if you were going to ask him in this moment, but if you thought about it." Jeff said to him. "And I worded it that way for a reason as I believe that you need to be the one to do it if that's what you want. Blaine deserves to be swept off his feet after what he's been through, know that he's worth it. I'm not talking some gay cliché, as we all know he's a romantic. It needs to be something that would truly move him."
"That's something I'm well aware of Jeff." Sebastian told him. "Just as you know B and I are the furthest from the clichés." Sebastian then looked at Hunter. "When do you plan on doing this?"
"Next weekend, should the weather cooperate as I want to ask her in the same place we had our first date which was in the park."
"Who imagined you being such a romantic?" Nick said as he looked at Hunter who clearly didn't take offense to the statement.
"Not me, but she brings it out in me. Further proof that Blaine's words that it takes a special someone to bring out the best in you. She doesn't expect me to be anything but me, yet I know I'm a better person because of her."
"What can I say; my B is wise beyond his years." Sebastian replied before taking a sip of his coffee which was now cool. "You all do realize that I'm going to have to replay this because we spoke through most of it."
"Right, like you wouldn't have listened to it again if we weren't here." Jeff told him. "Not to mention, you're going to be calling him to thank him for his sweet surprise."
"What surprise?"
"He asked Sophie to get me tickets for the Bastille Day celebration at the French Institute."
"Impressive, that's one way to make sure you're happy during some of the time the two of you are apart." Hunter said to him. "Even when he's not here, Blaine looks out for you."
"That he does."
While they were all talking, Blaine was getting ready to leave the radio station. He and Scott were about to exit when he took a deep breath upon spotting all the people outside waiting for him. It only took one look from Blaine for Scott laugh quietly. "One would think after all your other interviews, you'd be used to this by now."
"It's Saturday morning, why aren't they sleeping?"
"Because they want to see you." Scott was speaking when the PR rep that was traveling with them came up behind them. "Does he have time to sign or do we have to move him quickly?"
"He's got as much time as he wants as no commitments till sound check according to Tess." While she was speaking, Blaine's phone went off and a smile crept to his face. When he excused himself, she looked at Scott. "Where is he going?"
"To get some privacy which probably means it's Sebastian on the phone." Scott told her.
"How'd I know I'd get to speak to you this morning?" Blaine said as he leaned against the wall after saying hello.
"Maybe because you had your little helpers drop something off to me this morning." Sebastian replied. "I don't know how to thank you B."
"You can enjoy yourself and tell me all about it each evening." Blaine told him. "I'm so happy Sophie was able to pull it off for me. I saw the way your eyes lit up when she was talking about all she'd been doing."
"I only wish you were here so we could go together."
"Me too, especially if it means you'll be speaking French."
"If I knew it was such a turn-on of yours, I would've spoken it more around you in high school." Sebastian told him. "Also, you shocked the guys with your words about marriage this morning."
"Which guys?"
"Jeff, Nick, and Hunter. Once you said you'd be open to it again, they all looked at me as they were curious if I was already aware of the fact."
"And you are. I hope that didn't put you in an awkward spot Bas. While I'm open to it, I'm also not in a rush to do it or do I need to do it again. I only said that my experience didn't deter me from it."
"I know, and you didn't. I simply thought you should know as I have no doubt you're going to get bombarded with questions from those close to us now."
"I expected as much. Are you sure you're okay, I mean…"
"Relax B, I'm good, we're good. You've got nothing to worry about." When Sebastian heard him sigh, he bit his lower lip. "B, you believe me, don't you?"
"I do and that wasn't because of you Bas, I was told I need to get a move on as there are people outside waiting for me. Is it okay if I call you once I get back to the bus?"
"Of course. I love you Blaine."
"I love you too Sebastian, talk to you soon."
"I can't wait." Once he got off the phone Sebastian looked at the guys who were still talking in the living room. With Blaine calling back, Sebastian knew he needed some privacy while they finished their talk as he could sense Blaine was feeling a bit disconcerted at the moment. "Not to be a complete ass, but you all need to go."
"Alright, but why?" Hunter said to him.
"I said something to Blaine that seemed to throw him and…he's calling back so I'd like some privacy."
"Is everything alright?" Jeff asked as they all stood up.
"It will be. But it's clear from what I said to him, he believes I was put on the spot in a sense about marriage."
"You mentioned what we said." Nick said.
"Only that you looked at me. I think he feels it's going to scare me off, when it couldn't be further from the truth. I mean, he and I already spoke about it, yet now that he put it out there I think his insecurities are getting the best of him and I need to put them to rest."
"We're sorry." Jeff told him. "If there is anything we can do, just ask."
"Got it, but I believe that after we talk everything should be copacetic again." Sebastian said to him. "So, I'll see you all later tonight."
Jeff and Nick were already out the door when Hunter stopped to look at Sebastian. "Does this mean you're changing your plans?"
"No, if anything, things might get pushed up a bit. I'm not going to lose him to insecurities Hunter, as we've gone through too much to get where we are."
"Alright, just let me know."
"Got it, thanks."
While Sebastian was seeing to it that he had some privacy for Blaine's call, Thad was waiting for Rachel to sit down as she'd been pacing his place for the last ten minutes or so. "Rach, will you please sit down as you're making it difficult to concentrate." Rachel stopped where she was and turned towards the couch where Thad was sitting. "Sit with me." After he spoke, she thought for a moment before sitting down beside him curling into his side. "What's gotten into you this morning?"
"I can't shake the feeling that I said something I shouldn't have yesterday when we ran into Burt." Rachel said as she placed an arm around him. "The look on his face when I told him everyone that was going to be in Columbus for Blaine's show."
"Rachel, that probably has to do with the fact that it only emphasizes the mess his son got himself into with Blaine getting a restraining order against him. If all of you and by you I mean the New Directions get together, you have to choose between the two as long as the order is in place." Thad said to her. "And from the way you and Santana feel about Hummel, it's obvious who you are going to choose as would Sam and Tina."
"The others would be pretty neutral so, it would be in favor of Blaine over Kurt which is sad because he was an original member."
"Blaine tried to play nice, and Hummel stuck his foot in his mouth so I doubt he'll ever give him the opportunity to play nice again while the order is in place."
"He did it once, which was more than he had to do."
"Precisely." Thad then turned and kissed the top of her head. "Is that all that's on your mind?"
"I'm also nervous about seeing Shelby on Monday, and then seeing my Dads and telling them."
"That's understandable. Also, knowing Blaine the way I do, he'd tell you not to worry about him and concentrate on yourself." Thad told her. "It's the reason he keeps things to himself."
"Yet you still worry about him."
"Of course I do, especially after what he went through when the rest of us weren't around. Try and keep in mind Blaine's got plenty of people outside of his parents and Sebastian looking out for him. And if he needs us, he'll say something."
"That's easier said than done Thad, as I still feel bad for not seeing how bad things were for him."
"Rachel, with the things Blaine's been through in his life, he guards his feelings pretty well."
"Yet you guys all seem to know when he's hiding something, how?"
"Maybe, because we were there when he was recovering."
"Recovering from what?"
"Nothing."
"You're not going to get out of it this time Thad, what don't I know."
"It's not my place to tell you Rachel."
"Thad."
"Rachel, it's not my place! Just as it wasn't Derek's place to tell you once he found out. It needed to come from Shelby and this would have to come from Blaine." By the time he was done speaking, he heard her sniffling. "Rach, I'm sorry."
"No, you had a right to get frustrated as I pushed." While she responded, Thad managed to pull her up onto his lap. "Sometimes I don't know when to stop and you've already made it clear that you won't say what else has happened to Blaine."
"True, but I'm as much at fault because of what I said. I never should've mentioned it." Thad then kissed her softly on the lips. "Are you okay?" Rachel nodded before placing her head on his shoulder. "You sure?"
"Yes, though I wouldn't object to some TLC from you before I have to leave for the theater. That is, if you can tear yourself away from your studies for a…" Rachel didn't even get the last word out as Thad had flipped them over on the couch and cut her words off with a kiss. For anyone that ever thought that Thad was the one always initiating that part of their life, they'd be sorely mistaken.
By the time Blaine finally called Sebastian back, he was starting to get worried as it seemed to take quite some time even with having to meet with fans. When he was able to look at Blaine, as he'd called back on the computer, Sebastian could tell he was a bit off. "Killer, you need to push any doubts you're having out of your head. Nothing you said was different from what the two of us have already talked about."
"Yet now our friends know and I don't want them all thinking it's a top priority of mine."
"Okay, before you think your comment is what prompted the conversation completely it wasn't. You see, Hunter came over and mentioned to them that he and I had spoken about marriage."
"You have?"
"Yes, we have." Sebastian told him. "You see B, Hunter is going to propose to Kimberly."
"What?"
"Yea. He actually came over this morning to show me the ring as I wanted to see it before he asks her. The conversation made progressed to him saying he and I had spoken about it since we'd both had similar views on marriage."
"Which were you didn't see the point of it." Blaine said to him.
"Yes, yet something has happened to both of us that have gotten us to reassess our previous views, we fell in love." As he spoke, Sebastian saw a smile creep to Blaine's face. "That's more like it. The word marriage doesn't scare me Blaine. People can talk all they want, but the final say is always going to come from us."
"True. I didn't mean to get so insecure on you Bas."
"It's okay Killer, it's understandable. You never have to apologize for how you're feeling to me, okay." Blaine nodded since they were able to see one another. "We all have insecurities and if someone makes you feel bad about them, fuck'em."
"Leave it to you to be so poetic about it." Blaine said with a laugh which was music to Sebastian's ears.
"What can I say, I try. And here I thought I'd have to speak to you in French to get you to smile." After he spoke, Sebastian saw Blaine pout. "You know B; you really should brush up on your French so you know what I'm saying. For all you know I'm saying rubbish."
"I remember enough to know you're not speaking rubbish Bas. Plus, this is you we're talking about."
"Okay, you have a point. But I'd much rather you know exactly what I'm saying to get you riled up."
"La prochaine fois que nous sommes ensemble, vous pouvez me donner une autre leçon mon amour."
"Excusez-moi?"
"You heard me Bas."
"When have you had time to brush up on your French?"
"One can only rehearse so much on the bus. I'd still love more lessons from you."
"Oh, I'll gladly give you more lessons Killer as someone's going to have to teach you the words that aren't on those tapes or whatever it is you're using."
"I'll be looking forward to it."
