A/N: Right, so here's the new chapter. From here on, a lot of events are pretty different, such as where the conflicts will take place. It's totally not an excuse of me not remembering everything that happened in the first series. Totally.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts guys!
Fokusas: You make a very good point. Yeah, that's the idea I was thinking of. This story at the very least would be a Korra and Mako pairing as it would make sense chronologically. Thanks for the input!
Thanks for your reviews to everyone else as well and please keep throwing in feedback, critiques, and flames.
"Guys, i'm back!"
Aang was slightly surprised by the sudden two newcomers, a built youth and a mature woman who gave the impression that she was constantly angry. The young airbender blinked curiously before noticing that Katara and Mako were preoccupied off to the side. She was seated next to an unconscious Korra, attempting to use some sort of healing technique on her forehead with water.
"Uh, what happened?" he asked, slowly taking off his headband as he made his way further inside. Mako sighed in mild frustration at Korra's condition.
"I dunno. Katara says she's sick, even though she seems fine," the time traveling firebender observed, rubbing his face tiredly.
"Katara?" Aang ventured, hoping the news wasn't too bad.
The young woman in question turned slightly after allowing the water to evaporate, giving Aang a reassuring smile. "I think she just needs some rest. I don't know what kind of illness it is though. She seems completely fine physically," she began, allowing Aang a sigh of relief.
"But you might want to talk to Zuko and Iroh. They said something strange happened before they made landing."
Katara's expression adopted a more worried expression as she relayed her statement and Aang was beginning to think their was something to that mild headache he experienced a couple of days back.
"Oh, and sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Aang. Are you two friends of Mako?" Aang inquired politely with a formal Nomad bow. Although Aang was only a young boy at this point, Lin couldn't help but return the greeting with a half bow of her own.
"It's...nice to meet you, Avatar Aang," she reciprocated. She noted how much a young Aang and Tenzin resembled each other.
To look less awkward, she cleared her throat before gesturing to the new Earthbender in the group.
"Avatar Aang, I am Bolin, it's an awesome opportunity to meet you," he said seriously accompanied by a deep bow of his own. "By the way, I'm Mako's brother." Aang nodded in comprehension before humming in thought and returning his gaze to Korra.
"So what's the bad news that you two had?" Aang sighed reluctantly, taking a seat a small distance from Korra where everyone else was settled.
Zuko and Iroh glanced at each other and the younger prince nodded.
Zuko sighed before beginning. "It was minutes before we landed at the cave. Korra was looking under the weather ever since we were on our way back from the palace, so she was sleep for the most part. She started spasming for some reason and then there was this big flash of light," he explained accompanied by hand gestures.
"Next thing we knew, there was a second Korra on the balloon. The one we know was unconscious, but the other one was...I think she was in the Avatar State."
Zuko expected to hear some gasps of surprise, but it seemed as though he had everyone's full attention, as they didn't dare speak a word until he was finished. Zuko glanced at Korra before returning to his story.
"Iroh managed to stun her, but not until she destroyed the balloon's engine with metalbending and escaping."
It was silent for a long while, and it was starting to irritate Zuko, until Bolin spoke up.
"You're saying that, Korra has an...an evil clone out there somewhere?"
The question might have sounded silly, but Bolin's expression suggested he was quite serious. Mako shook his head, a dreaded feeling rising to his chest.
"I should have been there with her..." Mako uttered in frustration.
"There's nothing you could have done-"
"We don't know that!" Mako cut off Zuko's statement impatiently. Zuko sighed, knowing that Mako was probably more frustrated than he was at these turn of events. After all, he knew Korra longer than anyone else present.
"So, what do you think, Avatar Aang?" General Iroh asked, all eyes turning to the monk. Aang sighed, looking at the ground.
"I don't know...I never dealt with anything like clones. I mean this is the first time there's ever been two Avatars at the same time," he explained, pointing out there current situation.
"Korra's told me that she hasn't mastered the Avatar State or Airbending yet, so how would this evil twin of her's know how?"
"Or even metalbend for that matter?" Lin added, arms crossed. Aang didn't have an answer, nor did anyone else.
"As things are looking now, we should probably continue to lay low here," Sokka suggested, a hand to his chin while he stared thoughtfully at the ground. He turned to his sister.
"How long until she recovers?" he asked.
"I don't know...a couple of hours? It could even be days," Katara answered uncertainly. Sokka sighed softly. As long as they weren't there too long, they should still be able to make it to their destination in time.
"Alright, the Solar Eclipse is still a bit of a long way off, so we should still be on schedule..."
"Solar Eclipse?" Bolin and Mako asked simultaneously.
"Yeah, that's the day we're invading the Fire Nation Capital. All fire benders lose their bending on that day," Sokka blinked after giving his explanation.
"Huh, in hindisght, I should of at least told you about that," Sokka added apologetically, shrugging his shoulders at Mako.
"We never had a Solar Eclipse in my time, so don't worry about it. I never knew it did that, though," the jacketed firebender replied, taking his eyes off of Korra only momentarily to glance at the Water Tribe Warrior.
"I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting claustrophobic in here," Toph announced, before pushing herself off of the cave wall.
"Toph knows what claustrophobic means?" Sokka muttered under his breath with a raised brow.
"Lin, you comin'?" Toph looked in her daughter's direction, the woman in question raising a brow in confusion.
"Huh? For what?"
"You're a Beifong too, right? And it looks like you can bend metal as well. That armor of yours is awesome by the way."
"Uh, thanks, I think..." Lin replied, a bit embarrassed by Toph's sudden attention. Coughing delibrately, she stood up from her spot in the cave.
"Well, let me know if Korra's condition improves any," she ordered Mako and Bolin, who nodded. Once the two relatives vacated the cave entrance, Sokka sighed while scratching his head.
"I better head out for a bit too. I still haven't gotten a feel of the town yet. We'll need to find a non-descript boat to get us out of here."
"Couldn't we just take Appa?" Aang asked the obvious question.
"We can, but the trip to our next destination is pretty long. It's better if we take a big enough boat for now," Sokka clarified, answering Aang's question as he got up and packed some essentials into his satchel. "And we have two new travel mates, by the looks of it. I doubt Appa wants to carry that many people all day."
"Your probably right," the younger Avatar answered with a light chuckle.
"I should probably go with Sokka and make sure he isn't wasting time window shopping," Katara input quite seriously.
"What about Korra?" Mako asked, worried. "Is there anything else you can possibly do for her?"
Katara sighed in sympathy. "I wish I could, but I've done all I can with the water. Right now, she just needs rest and we'll have to wait until she wakes up," she answered.
"Oh...Well thanks for your help. I'll...I'll stay with her. I'll wait for you guys."
"Have fun out there," Bolin added with a thumbs up.
"Bolin, why don't you go with them?" Mako suggested before the group was too far out of sight. Bolin's brows lowered in concern.
"Are you sure you'll be fine if it's just you watching her?"
Mako half smiled at Bolin's concern. "Yeah, bro, don't worry about it! I don't want you not having fun because of me or anything. Let me know how it is out there."
Without warning, Bolin pulled Mako into a bear hug before letting him go. "Thanks man. Don't worry, I won't be gone long!" With that, the younger sibling quickly got to his feet to jog after Sokka and Katara.
After a few seconds, Mako leaned his back on the cave wall so that he was parallel to the unconscious Korra.
"Eh, I know you probably can't hear me or anything, but I hope you get better soon. I know you've probably gone through a lot, what with the time traveling and all..." he glanced down at Korra, noticing that she at least didn't seem to be in pain. She looked quite relaxed, so hopefully that meant something. He brushed a wayward strand of hair from her face before sighing and staring at the ceiling.
"Man, who would have thought, huh? Time traveling, evil princesses, Two Avatars, or three if Zuko's story is anything to go by..."
For a second, his mind drifted to that fire nation princess. Now that he thought about it, he wondered why he hadn't heard as much about her as he did of Zuko. He was only aware that Fire Lord Zuko had a sister, but besides that, he didn't know much. She seemed like kind of a jerk if his first meeting was any indication, he thought with an internal laugh. He glanced at Korra again, hoping she'd wake up sooner rather than later. Seeing her helpless like that was a bit unsettling, knowing her personality was anything but.
"Maybe I just need to chill out," Mako muttered. Taking off his jacket, he placed it over Korra before scooting away a bit to lay on his back, his hands folded under his head. Before he knew it, he was dozing off, not realizing how tired he was.
At the back of his mind, he thought he heard a boat dropping anchor on the water, but he was already beginning to sleep.
A/N: Uh oh, what did that last sentence mean? Could it be foreshadowing or am I just messing with you? We'll see :).
