Chapter 39

Bella's Point of View

"Since I let Sam be alpha, I follow the shots he calls." Jacob said.

"Since you let Sam be alpha?" I asked.

"I didn't want to be in a pack Bella. Let alone be its leader." He said.

"Wow. Chief Jacob." I said.

"Opted it out. But every choice has its consequences." He said.

"You should know." I looked away from him.

"Some more others though." He said.

I looked back at him. His eyes were focused forward on where he was walking.

"Don't start." I said.

"Everyone has choices. You're just going to have to accept mine." I said.

"You can love more than one person Bella." He said. I didn't realized that we had stopped.

"I've seen it. With Sam, Leah, and Emily." His voice soft but toughness followed.

"Well, I'm not a wolf so I can't imprint." I said.

"It has nothing to do with imprinting. In your case it doesn't." Jacob said. I looked at him finally able to catch his eyes.

"It all depends on what your heart says." He said. Our heads were close and I could see he was leaning in to get closer.

"Jake." I said.

"Don't worry. I promised I wouldn't until you asked." He said.

"Yea well, you're going to be holding that promise for a while chief." I said.

He smiled and we continued our walk in silence. When Jacob returned me to Edward I was glad to be in his arms again. Although Jacob's were strong and warm it was something about Edward's hold that I loved.

"Well, did it work?" Jacob asked.

"Yup. Bella's scent was masked perfectly." Jasper said.

"Good. Well, the pack is ready. Is there anything else we need to know about these new vampires?" Jacob asked.

"No. you know everything. One thing to keep in mind is their strength." Jasper said. I shuddered a little bit.

"I will spread that to the pack." Jacob said. He turned to me.

"Call if you need anything." He said. I nodded and he took off running.

"Alright, well can I go home now?" I asked turning to Edward.

"Well Alice wants you back at the house." Edward said.

"Ugh, what could Alice want now?" I asked. Edward and Jasper smiled.

"I mean don't get me wrong I love Alice, but the girl is just too perky." I said.

The boys laughed and we headed back to the jeep. On the way back home I started drifting off to sleep. I wasn't sure why I was so tired.

"Bella?" Edward said. I turned to him.

"Are you sure you want to go through with this?" Edward asked.

"Go through with what?" I asked.

"The whole vampire thing." He said. I rolled my eyes.

"Don't start this. You sound like Jacob." I said.

"Well, there's one thing him and Jacob have in common." Jasper said. I smiled.

"Yet they don't get along." I said.

"Maybe they're too much alike." Jasper said.

"Never compare me to that." Edward snapped.

"Hey don't do that. You know I love you both so stop." I said.

"Ok. Fine. But I will never be friends with him." Edward said.

"With Bella around, you will probably end up in the same house." Jasper said. I laughed and we rode the rest of the way in silence.
