The two Remaining members suddenly heard a scream on their trek. It was Minato that said slowly, "What was that…?"
"Sounded like a girl screaming…" Gakupo snorted a laugh. "Maybe we're lucky and it was that Katie Heart chick."
Minato smirked at the remark. "Heh. Maybe. But we should check it out. Sounded like it came from that way." He pointed towards the scream.
"Towards the grotto? We just checked there for her and she wasn't there," Gakupo reminded him. He shrugged. "But it's worth a shot. One more failure on our end and Yumi'll go nuts."
"I don't want the same thing that happened to Hisoka happen to me…" Minato treaded the way through the lush overgrowth. Gakupo was in front of him, mowing down the overgrowth with his katanas and making a safe path to the grotto. "I can't remember the last time I've seen so much…"
"Green?" Gakupo finished. He shook his head. "Me neither. It seemed such a long time ago…" he stopped his chopping and sheathed his swords back on his back. "We're here."
Minato raised an eyebrow at the ground and knelt down. He scooped up the soil and bounced it in his palm. "I don't remember it looking so dead…" He showed it to Gakupo. "It looks like someone set it on fire."
"Yeah…but there's no smoke damage." Gakupo turned around to the lake and his eyes widened. "U-Um…Minato…?" he smacked his teammates arm to get his attention faster.
"Wha—? Oh my…"
The lake was glowing an electric green around its edge. The trees around it had turned white and illuminated like the moon onto the lake and the ground around it.
Minato went to the glowing water and scooped some up into his palm. In a matter of seconds, he yelped and threw his glove into the lake. The water burnt a hole through. He turned to Gakupo and said, "I don't like this…"
"Neither do I." Gakupo saw something in the corner of his eye. When he looked over his shoulder his eyes widened. "There she is…" he whispered. A few feet away from him and Minato was Katie Heart, laying on the ground, unconscious.
Minato faced the same way as Gakupo and smirked. "Well, I'd be damned…"
Gakupo slowly approached her. "I think she passed out."
"Be careful!" Minato called after him.
Gakupo nodded in acknowledgement and continued his approach towards her. He slowly unsheathed one of his katanas and held it defensively. He stopped when he heard a very soft moan come from her. He quickly drew his other katana when Katie twitched and drew her feet in. He jumped backwards when suddenly her wing burst out of her back.
"Gakupo!" Minato yelled in alarm.
Gakupo spun around to his partner. He watched a spark erupt from the ground and the ground caught on fire. The flame zipped around them to make a large and high ring of fire. He and Minato turned back to Katie.
Katie slowly pushed herself off of the ground and held onto her right eye with a sudden hiss of pain. She slowly took it away and slowly faced the two. Black veins were growing from the bottom of her eyes and acted like her face was shattered by their pattern. She slowly brought her head up and opened her eyes. Her right eye was glowing the same green as the lake and the pupil shrank to a slit like a cat eye. She wielded her Keyblades and went into a fighting stance. "Leave…me…alone…" she snarled.
Minato brought out his lance and pointed it at her. "I'm afraid we can't do that."
Katie's eyes slowly went to Gakupo. Her glowing eye's pupil shrank and she growled. "You. You were with that kid that looks like Xigbar. At the Caribbean."
Gakupo raised his eyebrow. "Xigbar—? You mean Hisoka?"
"Are you with the Organization in any way?"
"What Organization?" Minato questioned. "We are the Remaining."
"Let me ask again…" Katie threw Darkness' Master at their feet. They yelped in surprise when the ground shook underneath them and the shot into the sky on a mound of rock that burst out of the ground below their feet. They landed flat on their backs. Katie took her Keyblade out of the ground and pointed her Keyblades threatingly at them. "Are you…working with the Organization?"
"What Organization?!" Gakupo yelled, losing his patience. "We don't know what you're talking about!"
Katie's eyes narrowed at them then snorted. "I guess you aren't connected to them at all then…" On Chaos Ripper tip grew a small, dark orb. "Yield!" Spikes of darkness shot out of the Keyblade and zoomed towards the two Remaining members.
They rolled away from the spray of fire and shot up to their feet. Minato waved his lace and crystal barrier formed around him and Gakupo. The spikes of darkness bounced off of the barrier and boomeranged back to Katie. Katie growled and shot up to the sky, making the bullets of shadows miss her completely. She zoomed overhead of the two.
"Fire!" A large dark fireball barreled towards them.
Gakupo flinched under the heat and pressure he could feel of the Dark Mega Flare on his shield. His eyes widened when he heard it crack and hiss. The next thing he knew, the crystal barrier shattered around him and the fireball crushed him into the ground. He screamed in pain.
Minato grinded his teeth and broke his barrier to get to Gakupo, who was rolling in pain at the burns eating his skin. Katie stepped between them. "Get out of my way…" he growled. "…Monster."
Katie gasped at the name and her eyes watered. Her glowing eye's pupil somewhat went back into a normal shaped pupil. "I-I…I'm not a monster…"
"Yes, you are!" Minato yelled. "Look at what you did, ya beast! You nearly burned him alive!" he motioned at her eye and her wing, then her black veins. "Just look at you! You're turning into a monster, Master Katie. There is barely anything human about you anymore."
Katie's pupil shrank back to a narrow slit. "I…am…not…a MONSTER…!" she screamed. She charged Minato.
Minato jumped to the side and flipped to Gakupo's side. He waved his staff over his teammate and a chime filled the air. Vines of light wrapped around him and a flower of light bloomed above him. His burns healed and his eyes snapped open. Minato helped him up and they both jumped out of the way of a flaming Darkness' Master. The Keyblade returned to Katie's hand and she fired a Blizzaga spell and Firaga spell towards them. Gakupo wielded his katanas and sliced the fireball in half and batted it back to Katie. Minato ducked away from the ice shard and casted his own Blizzaga spell. A bolt of lightning zapped after it. Katie cut her Keyblades in the air like an x. A gust of powerful and razor-sharp wind rushed at the spell and shattered it like fine china. She dropped to the ground to make the lightning bolt crash into the wall of fire behind her.
Katie growled and her hand glowed red. She rocketed into the sky. She shot the red light the ground around Gakupo and Minato, making an odd circle around them of foreign and runic symbols. She raised her hand to the sky and closed it into a fist. As if on cue, red lighting hit the ground around the two and the circle burst into flame, causing a large explosion. It mixed with the flaming wall around them. She blocked out their bloody-murder screams. Katie descended back down to the ground and made her wing return back into her back. Her eyes softened from their stone cold gaze when she saw the two struggling to get up onto their feet.
"Katie…? Is that…you…?"
Katie's voice froze at the voice. She reluctantly turned around to see her group, horror written on their faces. And Riku's expression almost broke her heart. "I-I…I'm so…I'm so sorry…" she said behind hicks.
