Night Thirty-Nine:

A/n: mNA~! i'M SOOO SORRY! I meant to update this months ago! And I just forgot! I'm so sorry~! Is anyone still reading this?! Anyways, let me know your thoughts~! Happy readings~!

The next night, I was up early enough to get ready for my classes on my own. After my bath, which I shortened by a considerable length, I slipped into the familiar but foreign uniform. I had to admit that I rather liked the sleek white look of the Night Class uniforms. I was brushing through my hair when there was a soft knock at my door. I didn't have to look to know that it was Takuma and Kuran that was behind that door.

Insurance. Making sure I don't use my power of persuasion on Takuma again. I sighed, yawning as I stretched. Truthfully, I hadn't slept well. I kept tossing and turning, so I was tired as if I hadn't slept in days.

"Miss Tomita, you're going to be late." Takuma said with a slight worry to his tone. I smiled, setting down my brush. I pulled my thick, brown, curly hair into a ponytail, securing it with a light red ribbon.

"I'm already up. I'll be out in a second." I called out, looking over my shoulder.

"Do you mind if we come in?" Kuran said after a slight pause. I frowned, taking another moment to answer, and then sighed as I shook my head, looking back at my reflection while I was careful to keep a masked expression on.

"Sure. I don't mind." I answered, forcing a small, civil smile on my lips as the door opened slightly, and then two stepped in.

I looked at Takuma, his blonde hair still hanging into his ever green, kind eyes, and then at Kuran, his dark brown hair also hanging in his red-brown eyes, and then looked down as I finally noticed one of my boots was unlaced. I quickly bent down, and began to lace it up more securely.

"The crossing is about to begin. You may want to hurry." Takuma suggested after a few moments of silence after I had already stood, and began to gather my school books. I nodded, straightening out as I faced them.

"We better hurry over then." I said simply, smiling slightly. I was quick to follow after the two.

The crossing over for the Night Class was highly different when experiencing it from the inside. Kuran and I waited near the back of the class.

"They would prefer us to be up front,as their leaders, but…" He paused with a sigh, and an amused smile as he raked his elegate fingers through his hair." But it's a hassle. They tend to fawn too much." He finished. I nodded slightly, glancing at Kuran.

"How long until the gate opens?" I questioned, and then looked around.

I wasn't the only tired. Some of the other Night Class students were rubbing their eyes, and yawning. Some even had their eyes closed, as if falling asleep on the feet. Others kept themselves awake by looking at their books, or making light conversation.

"Usually until most of the Day Class students make their way to their dorms." Takuma explained, smiling slightly. I nodded, glancing at him and Kuran, and then looked forward.

"Ah~! So the rumors are true! You are in the Night Class now!" I jumped slightly when I heard Aidou's voice call out to me. I glanced at him as he suddenly stood beside me, smiling widely." And good Morning to you, Lord Kuran!" He said almost immediately, bowing to Kuran, who nodded simply.

"Hanabusa, don't go causing trouble so early." Akatsuki said. I looked at him, my heart racing as always. He always wore his uniform so casually. He glanced at me, smiling ever smally. I smiled smally back, looking forward.

Don't get distracted Sakika.

I thought to myself, shaking my head as I heard Yuki's voice call out to the Day Class fangirls, calling for them to get back, and not to push, and a million other things as they began kyaa'ing, and yelling out the names of their respective crushes.

From this side, it's almost amusing.

I thought to myself, surprising a grin as the gates opened.

"Just smile, and look forward. Most of the people out there are after the guys anyways. Though, there's a few boys out there too." Takuma explained, smiling. I nodded slightly, and then began to move forward.

The clamoring died down for a moment before it began once again. I hadn't noticed that Aidou and Akatsuki had moved forward on their own, and the loud clamoring got ten times as loud as Aidou stepped through, and began flirting with the girls.

As I walked forward, I heard some whispers about myself, but I ignored them as I continued walking.

"Sakika? You're a part of the Night Class now?" Yuki questioned. I stopped slightly, and looked at her with a slight smile.

"I'm surprised you weren't informed, Yuki." I felt annoyance that Kuran had answered for me, smiling softly at Yuki, who blushed, and bowed deeply.

"I must have forgotten." She said with an embarrassed laugh, rubbing the back of her head.

"Don't you guys have classes to attend." Zero said in a low tone. I couldn't bring myself to look at him, but I could certain feel his gaze on me. I looked at him through the corner of my eyes, and sure enough, he was looking at me with a masked expression. I relaxed slightly, and then nodded as I looked forward.

"Right. We should go on." I said simply, looking forward, and walking ahead.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~

Surprisingly enough, I settled into the Night Class rather well. Most of my classes were very easy, and it seemed like these classes were simply a farce, as most of the vampires used it as social time anyways. Except for ethics.

Although, this was taught by a rather stern looking man with black hair, and an eyepatch over his eye. It took me a moment to recognize the man as Togua Yagari, the top Vampire Hunter in the world currently. I was rather surprised to see such a acclaimed Vampire Hunter teaching the Night Students, and he seemed equally surprised to see me in the Night Class.

"Call me Master Togua." He said simply, his eyes looking at me with a masked expression as I handed him my slip of paper that introduced me as a new student. All the teachers were expected to fill out, and I was to return it to Kuran, who would give it the Headmaster at the end of the day." Respect the rules of the class, and I'm sure we'll get on just fine." He told me with a strained smile. I nodded, and then found a seat near the back of the class.

Togua Yagari was exactly how my father had explained him, but I couldn't help to wonder how he would treat me considering my new position. I hadn't seen any Hunters since my awakening, so I was just a bit tense. When class was over, and I went to retrieve my paper, I was more tense than ever.

"I would have never suspected you were truly a Pureblood Princess. You're father used to speak so highly of you." He told me, handing it back. I nodded simply, glancing at Takuma and Kuran as they both paused at the door, waiting for me. I then looked back at Yagari.

"It surprised me too when I found out." I said simply. I didn't want to say how much I looked forward to becoming a Hunter, finding it a bit distasteful considering everything, but I was almost certain that that message came through clearly anyways without me saying anything.

"I see. Well, I should have you know that I except you to pay attention as well. I don't have any tolerance for slackers. I'm not giving you any special treatment." He said after a brief pause, his blue eye looking at me critically. I nodded simply, feeling too awkward as I took the slip of paper, and hurried out of the class.

Before I had arrived here after my awakening, I had no idea the full extent of how much other vampires seemed to respect purebloods. Sure, I had seen it with the servants back home, but I never truly thought about it. Perhaps it was mostly because I expected that kind of treatment coming from servants. Being back at the Academy, I fully understood the position I was in.

Most students were friendly towards me. Even overly so. Whenever I asked for something, some seemed to scramble to give it to me. Even with the firendly atmosphere, it always seemed to have a sense of… Distance as well.

"Lady Tomita, would you allow me to carry your books? I'm sure you must be tired."

"Lady Tomita, if you need anything don't hesitate to ask. Vice President isn't the only one capable of helping you."

"Wow! You're so pretty! I had seen you in The Disciplinary Committee before, and I always knew you were special!"

"I'm glad you see you are doing so well. How are you finding this Academy?"

"Do you have enough Blood Tablets? If you're low, I wouldn't mind sharing some of mine! I remember my first time being here, I went through so much! I understand the pain."

"You look well. I want to personally welcome you to the Night Class!"

After hearing this so much in one night, I began to feel sorry for Kuran. Having so many friendly faces around you, but never knowing if they truly were your friends, or simply being friendly because they knew they had to be, or simply wished to gain affection in order to have special treatment in one area or another. It was almost… Lonely. And he had to deal with this on a daily basis.

I wanted to get away before I went insane, but I braved through it. At least until it was lunch time. Students broke off into their own groups, and went off to relax. I sighed, taking this time to walk outside, and enjoy the moonlight.

"It's a beautiful night." I jumped slightly when I heard Akatsuki's voice call out behind me. I glanced at him, and then nodded slightly as I sat on the ground. He stood right next to me, leaning against the building, his head tilted upwards for a moment before looking down at me, and then scooting down to sit next to me.

"I guess so." I replied, smiling softly.

"Are you adjusting well to your classes?" He questioned. We caught gazes with one another, holding it for a second. I felt my heart flutter, and I had to look away to control my blush.

"Yes. The classes are really easy, and the v…. People are…. Much more receptive than I thought they would be." I cleared my throat after speaking, feeling much more awkward than I thought I should have been.

"Yes. The Night Class students aren't all bad once you give them a chance." Akatsuki replied with a hint of amusement to his tone. I blushed slightly, and refused to look at Akatsuki.

He chuckled lightly, and I felt his hand brush against mine. I gasped slightly, surprised that he would make such a move. I looked at his hand, his fingers just a fraction of inches away from my own fingers. I then looked up at him. Atkasuki looked at our hands, how close they were, and then drew his hand away. I felt disappointed, but didn't comment. I looked away quickly.

I sensed Zero. I looked around, being sure not to be noticed by Akatsuki, and sure enough, Zero was standing off by a tree, just watching. His expression was unreadable. He just stood there, leaning against the tree with his shoulder, looking at me with his eyebrows drawn together, and his mouth pulled into a frown, but it wasn't an angry expression, or even hateful. Rather, he just looked like he was trying to figure things out.

"We should go. Classes are about to begin, but… I thought you might like one of these before hand." I forced myself to look away from Zero, and at Akatsuki outstretched hands.

I smiled slightly when I saw a blood tablet, I quickly reached out, took it, and popped it into my mouth. I was surprised how much it tasted like blood, if only somewhat chalky, but it quenched my thirst.

"Thank you." I said softly, taking his outstretched hand, and stood up.

I looked back to see if Zero was still watching, but it seemed as though he had turned away. By his side was Yuki Cross, who seemed to be reprimanding him on something. I sighed, looking forward as Akatsuki dropped his hand from mine, but continued to walk by my side.
