Hi,
Another chapter and one of my personal favourites, the inspiration for this came from my cousin who knew a girl who did this so I thought why not? And we have a little bit of everyone in this chapter so...
Just to confirm the prompts for this story are shut. I have reached 100 and I don't plan on taking it further. I am however accepting prompts for Missing Moments. See other chapters for a synopsis or please PM me and I'll explain it to you.
Thanks to all who have commented so far
And let me know what you all think
Chapter 39-Haircut
When Katy's fifteen she gets her first haircut without Jamie's supervision-the after effects shock the whole family.
Danny had taken to watching Jamie pace up and down, up and down the floor of the main room checking his watch every so often. "Relax" he felt compelled to say watching "She's not an idiot-she's going for a haircut not The Test"
Jamie shot him a withering look. "I'd be worried" Erin said coming into the room with the roast potatoes "Take it from me Jamie the last time I let Nikki go to the hairdressers on her own she got her whole hair cut off"
Jamie shuddered. Danny shot Erin a reproachful look. Wow did it feel strange for him to be in the right for a change.
"She's fifteen" he said taking another sip of his wine "I say let her have her independence-at least she hasn't eloped yet" he pointed at Erin "Joined the Marine's or gotten a tattoo-it's a haircut Jamie-it could be worse-it'll grow back" he shrugged
"Nikki" Jamie called and Nikki stuck her head out of the door "What?" she asked and Jamie smiled bitterly "If she sends you a picture and you think it's bad tell me so I can prepare myself" Nikki nodded and the door swung shut.
"You haven't told him you've already seen it then?" Thom asked from where he was rocking baby Connor of to sleep and Nikki shook her head "Are you insane?" Jack cut in from the corner JJ sat in his lap while Theresa was stirring something "Man would have a heart attack"
"Is it that bad?" Frank asked from where he was making sure Sean and Alex (who weren't great cooks on the best of days) weren't burning the roast.
Sean pulled a face "It's Katy Grandpa, you know she likes the big, bold and beautiful" Henry who had been sat down watching Theresa stir the gravy looked confused "She goes to a catholic school" he said nodding at his great-granddaughter in law's methods "She can't do anything to drastic"
Nikki laughed "Katy goes to the same school I do" she says "And trust me she puts up more than a fight than I did, I doubt that will only give her the incentive to do more damage, Uncle Danny's right she could have done a lot worse-the other day she was on about a tongue piercing"
Frank sniffed in despair, he remembered naturally the time a fourteen year old Katy had got her belly button done and had great pleasure in watching Danny cart the man (who was piercing underage kids) to prison.
He never told Danny that however. He had some standers. But it seemed that Katy was determined to make sure that the quiet like Reagan household combusted. His youngest grandchild was a hurricane destroying whatever she could reach. Heaven help the world when Katy Reagan entered it.
"Can we see this picture then?" Henry demanded and everyone laughed "Nope" Jack said grinning and Alex cut in "It will ruin everything"
Oh good Frank thought irritably, that was exactly the news he was hoping for. He once again rethought the decision to use the good china.
The diner went alone surprising well-if you counted the looks sent between everyone. Jack was inches away from laughing and Jamie really didn't like it.
And then the door opened.
"Dad" Katy hollered making everyone wince, she slammed the door shut and clomped into the dining room.
"What do ya think?" she said twirling around and Jamie honestly couldn't think of a single thing to say. Katy's long blonde hair had been heavily layered and the top part a whiter blonde than before. The bottom part however had been dip dyed a shade of…
"Blue?" Henry asked unable to control himself "Why the hell is half your hair blue?" Katy sighed as if Henry was being difficult on purpose "I wanted to" she pouted twirling a finger around the baby blue locks "What ya think dad?" she asked twirling and Jamie stared.
He forced down vomit with considerable effort "It's nice" he said smiling and Katy squealed hugging him before dancing into the kitchen to get herself a plate.
"Jesus Christ" Danny said his eyes wide with a combination of shock and glee. "It's fine" Jamie said through gritted teeth. "No it's not" Linda said gently "But it's nice your pretending it is" Jamie made a non-committal noise.
"At least she's happy with it" Danny tried and Jamie shot him a withering look. "It's Ok" he said again.
"Hey kid" he shouted and Katy popped her duel coloured head back in "Yeah" she said and Jamie forced another smile on his face when he saw his daughter's blissed out expression "It look's nice" he said and Katy flashed him a perfect smile melting Jamie's insides.
"Thanks" she said before disappearing.
He was dying inside he really was, but listening to his daughter gleefully skipping around the kitchen Jamie Reagan swallowed down his disappointment and ruefully shook his head. If his daughter smiled like that again-well he would just have to get used to it.
He supposed Danny was right-it was just hair.
