Their time at Hogwarts flew by and before they knew it, it was the 30th and they were packing up their bags once again. Harry had never realised how much he'd actually missed the castle, he'd spent nearly a full day with Hagrid on their second day there, reminiscing about times spent in his hut; introducing Draco to new stories from his Hogwarts days, as well as introducing him to Hagrid's rock cakes – which he did a good job of subtly hiding in the chair. Then together they all headed into the forbidden forest, not something Harry had thought he'd ever do again, and made their way to a clearing off to the left of the main paths.
A sudden noise startled Harry and without thinking he drew his wand and pivoted around, only to find themselves being approached. Draco had stepped back unconsciously, not meaning to particularly, but slightly hiding behind Harry, unsure of what the creatures in the distance were, and not having fond memories of the last time Harry and himself were in the forest.
2 minutes had passed, Harry still stood with his wand raised and at the ready; to Draco it felt like he'd been stood waiting for something to happen for hours. The creatures had slowly being moving forward, Draco still unable to make out what they actually were, when suddenly; Harry laughed aloud, lowered his wand and began heading forwards towards them.
"Harry be careful!" running forwards and grabbing his wrist Draco tries to stop Harry moving any further forward, still not sure what he's heading into.
"Draco? You can let go, it's okay" Harry had stopped and turned to Draco, seeing the worried look upon his face, he grabbed his hand, lacing their fingers together and started pulling Draco forwards. "Here, I'll introduce you, come on"
Closing the rest of the distance, Draco realised he'd been an idiot, they weren't beasts or monsters ahead of him, they were centaurs, four of them, who all looked quite happy to see Harry.
"Draco, this is Firenze, Bane, Ronan and Magorian, They all helped in the battle of Hogwarts, you might even remember Firenze taught divination for a while at the school, when Umbridge was meddling in things."
Draco just nodded not quite sure what to say to them, he remembered Firenze, but not from school, from the last time he was in the forest, he had saved Harry from the Dark Lord.
Noticing Draco's hesitation Harry takes up conversation with Firenze, leaving Draco to just stand and listen, hoping this stops him feeling quite so awkward.
"So Firenze, it's great to see you back in with the colony, what changed?" Harry might be wrong, but he thought Firenze was kicked out after accepting the job from Dumbledore.
"Ah well Harry, you see after the battle, where a few more of my colony members came and helped, they realized that the humans here aren't trying to enslave us, or use us a servant, instead to accept our help, keep us as equals, and benefit from our knowledge of the stars. This doesn't mean the colony are willing to go out and help every human out there, but they understood why I did what I did, and so I joined them again, it feels good to be back where I belong."
"I'm glad you're happy and safe, I never did get a chance to say thank you for saving me all those years ago, without you acting how you did, the world would be a very different place, thank you Firenze"
"O'right 'Arry I think that'll do, don' need ta be lookin' at whut coulda 'appened now, do we?" Hagrid nodded to the centaurs and started gently pushing Harry and Draco back towards the path they came from, once out of ear shot he let go of them "I never trusted Magorian, don't find yerself alone with 'im at all."
They spent the rest of that day sat in the safety of the kitchen, it was hard for Harry being around all the house elves who knew Dobby so well when he wasn't with them anymore, but it was still nice to be able to have them make up his and Draco's favourite meals, not having to worry about keeping up appearance around the students and staff upstairs when all they wanted to do was relax and not have to answer questions.
The rest of their days at Hogwarts were rather uneventful, Draco chose to make the most of their library and potions rooms while Harry chose to make the most of being back in his favourite chair in front of his favourite fireplace.
On their last evening in the castle Draco found Harry once again staring into the flames of the fireplace, so deep in thought he hadn't noticed Draco's arrival. Walking over and settling himself on the arm of the chair – which also happened to be amazingly comfy, somehow – Draco bent over and kissed the top of Harry's head, distracting him from his thoughts.
"What's in those flames that keeps you so occupied baby? I've not been able to get you away from them for days now"
Harry, who'd gone back to staring at the flames once more, just whispered "Sirius" before curling himself into Draco, all of his energy and spirit seeming to be gone.
