Chapter 36: Being a Hero's a Dying Art
After some flying back to Olympus Coliseum, the heroes landed back onto Hercules' home and prepared to enter in the Games. First, the heroes walked over to Hercules who was standing out front to greet newcomers.
"Oh, welcome back, Sora!" Hercules greeted. "Getting ready to enter the Games?"
"You bet!" Sora answered.
"Then I wish you luck. Maybe we'll face off against each other sometime." Hercules added as the heroes made their way into the Lobby and speak with Phil.
"Guys, are you ready for the first competition?" Phil asked as the heroes nodded in agreement. "Good! Now let's go over a few rules: first, each round will be split into seeds, and have specific challenges for each. Second, after beating the main part of the competition, there are two sub-campaigns- Solo and Time Trial. And the last one, don't use Summons. You have to fight with your own power! Understood?" Sora and Aqua acknowledged his instructions and stepped into the field of battle.
ROUND 1! JUNGLE VICE!
The first round had Sora and the others fighting against a group of Powerwilds and Soldiers. The round just went by simply as the heroes split their focus on taking down the Powerwilds, blocking their combo swipes and countering with a vengeance. After the monkeys were disposed of, the Soldiers fell just as quickly as the group celebrated their victory in the first round.
ROUND 2! MONKEY AND MAGIC!
Soon, the second round began with Sora and the team facing off against a Powerwild, 2 Red Nocturnes, 2 Green Requiems, and 5 Yellow Operas. Donald dominated in the round by freezing down the enemies with a well-placed Blizzard spell, as Aqua shattered their frozen state with a fierce downward slash. Goofy managed to demolish the Green Requiems with a spinning attack to keep the healers from recovering the enemy health.
ROUND 3! BIG FEET!
The third round was when things started to get tricky. The team didn't have to just deal with 4 Powerwilds, but the Hammerlegs of a Guard Armor as well. The Powerwilds went down quickly, but defeating the Hammerlegs required some tactful blocking and hitting down hard with the Keyblade. Eventually, the giant feet were disposed off and Sora's group moved on to the next round of the competition.
ROUND 4! MAGIC ALERT!
Not much was to be said of this round, as Sora and the team managed to quickly take down the careening Heartless spellcasters in a matter of minutes before pressing onward to the halfway marker.
ROUND 5! NIGHTWALKERS!
While Donald and Goofy diverted the attention of the Powerwild Heartless, Sora and Aqua struck at the Large Body Heartless from behind, keeping a close distance so they could keep track of the target's back. As they blocked its berserk attack, Sora landed the killing blow to take them to the next round of the competition.
ROUND 6! HARD HITTERS!
Although it seemed easy to dispute this part of the tournament because of small Shadows and Blue Rhapsodies that were taken out quickly by Aqua and Donald's combined Flare attack, the Guard Armor Gauntlets still hit hard as Goofy helped knock the floating arms back down to the ground for defeat.
ROUND 7! INDOMITABLE!
In the next round, Sora and his friends faced off against two Large Bodies and a swarm of Green Requiems. As the group was fully aware taking out the larger Heartless would be difficult if the healers were around to help the Heartless recover damage, Sora took the green Heartless down with a spinning circular throw of his Keyblade while Aqua used her Shot locks to defeat the Large Bodies without trouble.
"We're almost done!" Donald chirped up as he twirled his stave around proudly.
"We can't let our guard down now," Aqua added cautiously.
ROUND 8! WILD CORPS!
This time instead of just the feet or arms of the Guard Armor, the team had to face off against both dark limbs while defending themselves against the combos of Powerwilds. However, the battle went by quickly as Sora and Goofy utilized a new attack in which they threw their weapons at the enemies at the same time before sending Goofy flying around like a human battering ram to take the severed limbs out as they cinched their spot in the final round.
FINAL ROUND! SHADOW BATTALION!
For the final round, Sora and the heroes found themselves facing off against the torso of a Guard Armor as well as Yellow Operas and Blue Rhapsodies as Donald and Goofy took care of the spellcasters, Sora focused on taking down the spinning torso with flurries of Keyblade strikes before it began to spin around creating a friction force field to protect it from being hit.
"Don't let it touch you!" Sora warned as the team rolled away for cover, taking out the spellcaster Heartless with them until the torso let its guard down and the quartet went in for the kill to end the tournament.
Stepping out from the field, Sora, Aqua, Donald and Goofy stood upon the audience stands as they posed in victory for completing the Phil Cup.
"We did it!" Donald and Goofy cheered as Sora and Aqua smiled enthusiastically.
"Well, you four ain't that half-bad. You just might have the makings of a real hero in you. So I think you should take this with you," Phil said as he handed the group a scroll for a new spell. {You have obtained the power of the stars. You have learned the Gravity spell!}
"Aw, c'mon, Phil," Hercules laughed as he turned towards his teacher. "I know they did great for their first tournament, but you can stop pretending you're impressed for them."
"Ahem!" Phil cleared his throat as he continued. "Anyway, the next tournament won't be as easy, so keep your eyes peeled!"
"Alright then; we'll see you later Herc," Sora said as the team headed back out to their Gummi Ship and set out back through the warp portal for their next destination. After traveling through the empty vacuum of space, the heroes found themselves discovering a peculiar ship on their radar.
"What's that? It doesn't look like a Heartless ship."
"Whatever it is, it's certainly not friendly. We've gotta take it down." Donald suggested as they tailed the suspicious ship towards a planet ahead. "We've got it now, it's headed for that moon in front of us!"
However, Goofy froze and stammered in concern "I don't think that's a moon, fellers."
"Whaddaya mean-" Donald questioned before he saw the sphere up closer, and realized what it really was.
"We've got to get out of her now!" Aqua cried out as Donald fiddled with the controls in a flustered manner only to find they were pulled in by the station's tractor beam.
"Whatever's waiting for us, we've got to be ready to fight!" Donald spoke up as they found themselves inside the cold enemy space station.
(World Name: Death Star. The giant sphere shape loomed over a grey streamlined ship with retracting wings as fellow versions of the same ship were soaring the distance as the words 'Death Star' across the station.)
