Chapter 48

The Love Hypothesis

*A/n Hey guys, so I know this story is taking forever, I just hope I haven't bored you guys too much. This chapter Sheldon meets Amy's parents, similar to a one shot I recently wrote, made purposefully to get my creative juices flowing. So for any of you still reading this fic, here's the next chapter, and I will try not to convey my sadness in it due to the fact that I was not at Comic Con, yet again, this year.

Previously…

"Are you okay?" she asked him finally as they pulled into her parent's driveway. His hand was still holding hers and he looked her in the eyes firmly before smiling gently at her.

"Of course I am, Amy, your parent's are going to love me." She wasn't too sure about that, but hopefully he was right.

Currently…

When Mr. Fowler looked through his living room window that afternoon, he was not expecting to see his daughter's car in his driveway. It was rare that she come visit, but he was ecstatic. He whipped his body around to see his wife coming out of the kitchen with her usual confused frown plastered on her features.

"Jayson, who…who's here?" She stuttered, but got no reply as her husband quickly strode towards their door and almost flung it open. Before him stood Amy at Sheldon's side, and both of them looked more than just nervous.

"Amy!" Jayson greeted cheerily, pulling his daughter into one of the bear hugs he would always give her when she was a child.

"Dad…" Amy giggled as he held her. "I thought you weren't going to be here today." All Amy's nervousness seemed to dissipate as she closed her eyes and focused on her father's embrace. She could feel her mother's confused stares but tried to best to ignore them. She could also feel Sheldon shuffle in his spot beside her, and just hoped he was okay.

"Well, little girl, it's certainly been a while since you've been here. Do you really think I would miss you coming here with your handsome man here? Now that would be unfatherly like." Jayson chuckled, letting Amy go with one last pat on her back. Once Amy stepped away, all eyes turned towards Sheldon.

He gulped, feeling more nervous than ever. Would they try to question him about what took him so long to meet them? What if they didn't like him after all? He had sounded so confident minutes ago in Amy's car, but now he wasn't so sure.

'Say something, Cooper' Sheldon pushed himself silently, his eyes darting from Amy's mother to her father and back. He couldn't meet Amy's eyes, couldn't show her how unprepared he seemed. Couldn't admit to being wrong about this.

'Anything will do, just say something' his mind continued to move at the speed of a locomotive and his thoughts seemed to be going haywire. He didn't think he'd ever gone so long without speaking.

"Mr. Fowler…" Sheldon managed to stutter, and before he could get further, Amy's father chuckled once again and pulled Sheldon in for a sideways hug, causing Sheldon to take a deep breath.

"Call me Jayson." He ordered, patting Sheldon on the back like he did with Amy. When Sheldon looked at her, she was giving him one of her warm smiles and he felt a large portion of his nervousness fade away.

"And you, Ms. Fowler?" Sheldon asked courteously, as if meeting people's parents was his profession. Amy's mother was quiet for a moment before hesitantly sticking out her hand to Sheldon and mumbling her name.

"I'm Sam…" And without hesitation, Sheldon took her hand and shook it firmly, maintaining eye contact. Amy wasn't totally caught off guard by their interactions, Sheldon had been doing way better physical wise, but she didn't think he'd be this way to her parents.

"Amy, I hope you're here to tell me this young man here got you pregnant, I'm not going to live forever you know." Surprisingly, Sam winked at Amy before walking back into the house, something she had never done before. Amy was momentarily speechless before shaking her head and following her mother into the house, leaving the boys in the doorway.

"What, Mom? No, okay, Sheldon did not get me pregnant." One more Amy had to watch as the hopeful grin across her mom's face fell, replaced with yet another frown of disappointment. She hated not being able to make her mother happy sometimes.

"But we do have some other news." Sheldon spoke up from his place by the door. Without an invitation inside, he stepped past Amy's father and stood by her side, taking her hand in his. He always loved how their hands seemed to be made to fit together like this.

Amy looked up at him in a shocked silence, and he looked down to her with his deep blue eyes and a small smile on his face. It seemed as if he was trying to will her to stay strong with his eyes, but all his stare was doing was making her knees go weak. He seemed ready to tell them their news, and if he was, so was she.

Clearing her throat, Amy turned towards her parents and gripped Sheldon's hand even tighter. With a big grin, Amy let their news tumble out of her mouth in a fast frenzy.

"We're getting married!" She practically jumped up and down in her spot and Sheldon grinned when he looked down at her once more. She was so cute when she was excited about things, he couldn't help pulling her closer to him and kissing the top of her head gently. When he looked back up, both Amy's parents were looking back at them with their lips curled up.

"That's great news, kid!" Mr. Fowler said with tears in his eyes. Sheldon released Amy once more so she could hug her father, and he was left to mingle with her mother in the meantime.

Ms. Fowler was eyeing Sheldon skeptically, which looked somewhat creepy since she still had that smile against her lips. He wasn't sure what to do in that moment, but he had an idea what was going through her head.

"Come on, Sheldon…" Amy's mother trailed off, taking a step closer to him. "You can tell me if you got my daughter pregnant, I won't tell." Her voice was a whisper now and Sheldon felt the need to squirm under her stare. If he thought he had felt pressured before about having kids with Amy, he sure did now.

Despite his nervousness, Sheldon swallowed and decided to announce what he had been planning for since their recent engagement.

"I'm working on it, I promise." Though Ms. Fowler's smile faded slightly, it was still evident and surprisingly, she wrapped her arms around him for a quick moment.

Sheldon temporarily forgot that Amy was by his side and had heard what he had said, but realized this once he saw the smirk playing on her lips. Though he tried his best not to, Sheldon blushed and meekly opened his mouth to say something, but was cut off by Mr. Fowler.

"You know what, Amy? Your mother and I are pretty busy, you two go on and don't forget to call us about wedding plans!" Sheldon watched as her parents shared a knowing look and this time, it was Amy's turn to blush; covering her perfect cheeks in just the right amount of heat. Sheldon didn't think he could ever get over watching her in such a state, she was just too perfect.

"Alright Daddy, we will! Talk to you guys soon." Amy offered, quickly hugging her parents goodbye and dragging Sheldon out of the house. Sheldon could practically feel her parents' happiness and felt humbled to have made them feel such a way. Life was great when people didn't question ever decision you made.

Sheldon's head was spinning by the time he and Amy got into her car to leave. Why on Earth had he said that in front of her?! He didn't have a problem making love to her, but he couldn't deal with a child on top of these wedding plans. Plus, his mother would kill him if he got her pregnant before they wed.

But as he studied Amy's face as she drove, his eyes trailed down her face to her jaw line and her neck. He still couldn't believe she was his, and every single time this realization hit him, he was stunned into a state of pure bliss. Sitting back in his seat, Sheldon smiled to himself and griped Amy's free hand in his.

Amy broke the silence not long after with a question of her own that Sheldon had been expecting her to ask. "Sheldon… did you mean what you said back there?"

Immediately Sheldon nodded his head and turned to look her in the eyes while they were stopped. With another deep breath, Amy worked up the courage to bring up her other question.

"You know, we haven't done that in a while…" she trailed off, not exactly confident that she would get the answer she was expecting. She didn't know why, he seemed to be excited for their activities as of late, no matter what they were. Still, she had her doubts, but was glad he proved her wrong once again.

"Well, what are you waiting for?" He answered quietly, giving her a small smile. Nodding, Amy turned her attention back to the road while deep in thought.

The rest of the way home Amy went five miles over the speed limit.

"So while we were in the car, I texted Missy…" Sheldon said as he and Amy walked into their apartment. He was feeling better about starting to try with Amy now that he had his sister's advice, but she didn't need to know about that.

"Oh yeah? And what did she say?" Amy asked in return, genuinely interested to hear about Sheldon's family.

"She told me the date for the wedding, which is exactly two months from today, mind you, and that the rest of the wedding plans were going well, and all we need to do is arrange our guest list, get our clothes ready and figure out who's actually going to be in the wedding."

"I've always wanted to have a fall wedding," Amy said rather dreamily, moving towards Sheldon slowly. "As for the other things, I think we got that covered. What do you say we celebrate? After all, planning a wedding is a lot of work…"

Sheldon smirked at Amy's attempt to get him into bed with her. He knew that's what she wanted; she had wrapped her hands around his neck and was now kissing his collarbone. His hands almost automatically snaked around her and pulled her closer in response. He could feel her hot breath against his skin and shuddered in anticipation.

"I won't argue with that logic," Sheldon said, rubbing his hands up and down her back. Though her cardigan felt soft under his finger tips, he couldn't wait to take it off of her.

"Good," Amy mumbled, coming up to give Sheldon a kiss on the lips. He welcomed her without hesitation and began gently nibbling on her bottom lip, causing her stomach to jump.

By now, Sheldon's hands had found their way further down Amy's body into her pants and he gently cupped Amy's bottom in his hands.

Things escalated rather quickly from that point and within no time Amy found herself in her bed with Sheldon hovering over her, waiting to enter her and please them both.

"Are you sure you're okay doing this without any kind of protection?" she asked him, worried once more that Sheldon wouldn't be ready for such a step. All he did was give her a smile and nod.

Upon her acceptance, Sheldon and Amy both had a lovely evening of love making and dining indoors, relieving them both of the tension of the day.

Right before bed, as Amy was preparing a late night cup of tea; she turned to Sheldon and broke their comfortable silence with her curious nature.

"Have you figured out which one of the guys you want to be your best man at the wedding?" Sheldon looked at her like she was crazy for a moment; did she not realize that he would clearly pick his best friend?

"I have, but is this about you not being able to choose one of the girls? I told you, whomever you choose doesn't make a difference to me, and I'm sure Bernadette won't mind when you choose Penny over her."

Amy looked appalled after he said that but paused before saying anything further. Maybe Sheldon was right, but that still didn't change the fact that she didn't know who to choose. Who does one go to in one of these situations anyway?

"I suppose I can talk to them about it at our next girls' night, it's only a few days away." Amy told him with a shrug, handing him his finished tea. Sheldon hovered over it for a moment and let the steam wash over his face before he looked back up to her with a content look on his face.

"I love the way you make tea," he complimented her, seemingly forgetting their previous conversation. Amy blushed at his sweetness and took a sip of her tea before sitting down on the couch next to his spot.

"Do you think I'll have enough time to get the dress ready before our wedding?" She asked him with her eyes half closed. Sheldon loved when she looked so sleepy, she was always so cute. He wasted no time walking over and sitting next to her, a little closer than they usually were.

"I think you'll have plenty of time, so stop worrying so much, okay?" Amy thought it was sweet how he was looking out for her like that, so she nodded and leaned into his side while her hands were still wrapped around her mug.

"I'll try." Sheldon couldn't help but notice how much Amy's was yawning, so he took the mug away from her hands and set it on the table. Without the mug her hands instantly felt the cold, although they were still really warm from her beverage.

Surprisingly, Sheldon took her hands in his and managed to keep them warm. She looked up at him then and her lips were met with a gentle kiss from him. Cuddling with Sheldon before bed was always the best sleep aid, and soon the two forgot about their tea and headed off to bed for a good night's sleep.
