*Note* these is the second part of "Happy birthday, Petra.
There weren't many soldiers around the castle, most of them were already sleeping and some others were in a warmer place. It was almost midnight and winter was hard; there were only a few places where the scouting legion members could gather around a fireplace to get warm.
Nevertheless, for Levi things were different. He was in the kitchen, alone with his thoughts, enjoying the remaining warmth of the room. It was a normal day for him, or at least that's what he wanted to think. He nevee celebrated his birthday and This year wasnt an excemption. It's just that he had never actually cared about it.
On some ocasions, Erwin or Hanji had done something to celebrare, just like a couple hoursbefore, when they had a little toast in the Comander's office, but Levi has never been too fond of those celebrations. It was just another day for him, a day when he just becomes a little older.
Suddenly, the sound of the door opening took him out of his thoughts and he turned to see who it was.
"Finally! I was looking do you al over the place, Captain" a girl with cinnamon hair entered the kitchen.
"Petra, what are you doing here? You should be sleeping.
"Well... I didn't want to let your birthday pass just like any other normal day.
"Tsch..." his glance softened and for an instant he allowed himself to stare at her figure in front of him, approaching.
"I've got something for you" she sat next to the Captain and handed him a box wrapped with a beautiful paper. It was very colorful.
Levi opened it with lots of patience
. He was dying inside to see what it was but he controlled himself. Little by little he took the wrapping off and as soon as he saw what it was, his eyes werefilled with tears, his troath became dry and he turned to see the girl, who was happily looking at his reaction.
It was a beautiful tea cup, delicately decorated with cherry blossoms on the sides.
"How did you know?" he manage to say.
"I notices the way you looked at the cup the other day, so I figured it was a cup what you lost. That and your singular way of holding it." Petra said the last part between cute laughs.
"Oh..."he felt some what ashamed because of the meaning of Petra's words and because he wasn'tused to show his fellings to anyone, although Petra was an excepción for all his rules "Thank you...This is the best gift ever." he looked at the cup in his hands
"I'm glad you liked it. I got it from the city just before returning from my days off a couple weeks ago"
Levi put the cup on the table and hugged Petra, who was very surprised after that gesture. He was holding her thigh and in a very intense way, as if something inside of his chest was vibrating, or perhaps it was only his heart or the felling he kept inside for so long. She held him too after felling it and they both remained silent for a couple moments until they separated, looking in the other's eyes.
"This shouldn't be happening..." his voice was serious but his eyes said otherwise
"What, exactly" she answered without thinking.
"Dammit' you know what I'm talking about, you too..."
"Yes, I feel it too... For a long time, but I never thought.." there was silence.
"To hell with that..." he broke the silence and kissed as they were sitting, one next to the other, with the only company of the candle lights in front of them.
It was a kiss that explained everything they had been hiding, a kiss that didn't want to lose any more time, the kind of gesture that overflows with tenderness and passion
They both had longed for this for a long time but circumstances were never appropriate. Even a couple weeks before, when Levi gave Petra the music box as birthday present, he felt the urge of kissing her while they were hugging, but he could only softly caressed her hair, hoping that somehow she would understand the reasons behind his actions.
But now everything had changed, they were in the middle of an unforgettable moment, perhaps the best birthday gift he could ever wish for, the first year they should spend together.
