A/N: Okay, I know some people already hates the title itself and may end up hating the whole chapter. Hahaha! Well anyways, I'm going to shift gears for now. I'll be using third person's POV, just this one for now then be back to Rukia's POV in the next chapter I guess. Well, I wish you'll learn to like Senna ;)

Anyways, thank you for the reviews, alerts, favorites and follows! I totally appreciate and am grateful for them! Thank you very much!

P.S: Still no rereads and edits. Yeah, I'm lazy. I know.

Chapter 51: Of Name and Power [ Kuchiki Senna]

" Senna-sama, when are you going to come home?"

" I still don't know Rurichiyo-chan. I'm attending a lot of things here in Karakura." Kuchiki Senna said over the phone. She was currently in her room, leaning over the railing of her terrace which overlooked the koi pond his father was so fond of. It was a cold night and she had been fatigued exploring the Eco-park from earlier. " You know, Rurichiyo-chan…Ichigo's loosened up a bit today."

"Why? Did something happen with Ichigo-sama?" The little girl on the other line inquired.

That question made Senna pause to think, tapping her finger on the railing mindlessly. " I don't know." She added a chuckle. " Nothing. Never mind what I said."

" You should call us more often, Senna-sama. We are worried for you."

The little girl's words tugged a genuine smile on the Kuchiki's lips. " I know. I'm sorry Rurichiyo-chan. And thank you for not coming to hate me even when I haven't talked to you for so long."

" That's one year exactly." The little girl was sulking on the other line, her voice said so. " Do you remember our cousin we told you about? She's from Karakura too."

" Really?"

" Yes. Her name is Kujo Nozomi." Rurichiyo spoke in her usual formal tone. " If we remember correctly, Nozomi-chan is friends with a girl bearing a Kuchiki surname as well. Would that be the relative that you spoke of?"

" I don't know." Senna's interest was piqued by the information. " What's the name?"

" Kuchiki…" Rurichiyo on the other line stifled a yawn. " Uh…Kuchiki Rukia."

" You're sleepy now. It's time to go to bed Rurichiyo-chan." Senna coaxed.

" Yes. Good night Senna-sama."

" Sleep well, Rurichiyo-chan." With that, Senna dropped the call and looked up on the sky where stars twinkled brightly. " Small world." She muttered before pulling herself erect and returning back to bed. It was late now and she needed sleep as well.

The Kuchiki Family, for generations, had upheld a code of pride and nobility—holding their heads high with superior pedigree. Power. Wealth. And influence. These three meant everything to the world. And the Kuchiki name offers that and some more. But to the eyes of a young child, these things meant nothing. The world, through naïve eyes, was a massive playground where joy, contentment and love can be found. Freedom equated to those pleasures—the very things that Kuchiki Senna did not possess.

" What did you do?!" Came that cold voice of the Master of the Kuchiki Branch Household. Kuchiki Koga was staring at her daughter with piercing eyes. " How many times must I tell you not to cause problems with your tutors? How many times must I tell you to behave?"

The little frame of the raven-haired young Kuchiki squirmed beneath her father's sharp gaze yet she kept quiet. The ten years old Kuchiki Senna had abandoned her studies again today. There was no end to them and she wanted a break from the lessons. But her father had immediately heard about it and here they were in this situation.

" Senna." Kuchiki Koga spoke to his daughter in a staid fashion, apathetic and direct. " You must not disappoint father. You must do your best to become a perfect clan leader someday. It is a privilege that had suddenly come our way and we must not hesitate to take it. I may have not had the chance to claim that position. But you will be, someday."

The young Kuchiki nodded as she looked at her father with doe naïve eyes. " Yes, dad."

" Good. Now proceed with your lessons and be earnest in perfecting them. Only then will you be able to attend the Gotei Ball tomorrow." It was an order. No caress or adoration for the young child. Simply an order she must carry out. " Be sure to see over her." Koga ordered Senna's attendant dutifully standing beside the girl before leaving. It was the first time the father and daughter had seen each other for weeks. And it didn't even last.

With a longing glance towards her father's retreating back, the little Senna feebly turned her head to the other direction and walked towards the room where her tutors were waiting for her patiently, her attendant following behind. If she had counted correctly, she must have spent more time with these strangers than with her own family. " Sakura-san…" She addressed her attendant as she stopped in front of the door of her study room, small dainty hands gripping the cold metal handle. " Do you think my father hates me?"

" Why would you say that Senna-sama?" Kujo Sakura, Senna's personal attendant inquired with surprise.

Young Senna's grip on the handle tightened as her face became shaded. " Because he barely looks at me. If I didn't miss out on my studies, he wouldn't even come here for sure." There was the sound of betrayal in her voice.

Sakura's eyes mellowed with sympathy towards her mistress. " Senna-sama. I don't think the master hates you. He is merely busy with his duties."

" Okay." Came that flat response from the child. For a full minute, all remained still before the little heiress started talking again. " Sakura-san, you have a daughter right?"

" Yes, Senna-sama."

" What's her name?" Senna had begun tracing figures on the door, possibly doodles.

" Rurichiyo."

" Rurichiyo-chan?" The Kuchiki heir repeated the name before turning her head back to her attendant and giving the older lady a small sad smile. " Sakura-san, never let your child feel so alone." Then she turned the knob and pushed the door open. " And please bring Rurichiyo-chan here when you have time. It would be nice to have someone to play with."

Kujo Sakura was rendered speechless with her miss' words. The little girl was thinking things beyond her age. The weight placed on the young Senna's shoulder was too much to be borne by such young child like her. She was barely ten yet she's holding a lot of responsibilities. Then there was the issue of her father's cold attitude towards her.

Kuchiki Senna may be young but she wasn't stupid.

.

.

.

Gotei Ball was one event that Senna had been accustomed of going and had been always looking forward to. The one time where she would actually forget about her family worries and strict studies and loosen up a bit.

"Satoshi-sama." Senna heard her father's voice while she was passing down the hall. Her grandfather had already arrived to pick her up and bring her with him to the Gotei Ball. Out of curiosity, she squinted by the slightly ajar door and listened. It was bad to eavesdrop but she had nothing to do to pass the time while waiting for them to finish. She was already dressed after all and was very much eager to leave this constricting place they call home. The two gentlemen were seated on the couches inside the room, positioned across each other with a very thick atmosphere setting between them.

" Koga. It's been a while since we last saw each other." The elderly remarked with a sad voice. It was the same as always, the coldness of her father towards her grandfather who apparently always sounded so remorseful with their current familial situation. " You should take time to visit me at home in Tokyo from time to time. I only ask that of you."

" I don't see any more reason why we should be talking about this again, Satoshi-sama." My father remarked addressing his own father so distantly. " We've been having this discussion every time you come here, it's become boorish." He sounded so disinterested with the conversation, the first conversation he had with his father for a very long time.

" You are my only son, Koga. With your mother gone, you and Senna-chan are the ones I only look forward to see. A man my age longs for his family's company the most, more than anything else." Kuchiki Satoshi reasoned. It could even be considered a plea with the way the old man sounded.

The younger Kuchiki scoffed, indifference gone as he looked at his father with disdain. " If you keep up with that way of thinking, you'll only end up frustrated. We don't want that now, do we?" He tritely responded, a little impatient even.

An exasperated sigh came from the eldest inside the room." It was not my fault that I was born as the second son Koga. How many times do I need to tell you that being a clan leader should not mean everything to you?!" Kuchiki Satoshi rebuked his son. This was the issue that makes the father and son clash every time they see each other. One thing that never seem to end. It becomes a repetitive cycle and an old man could only take so much.

Kuchiki Koga gruffly shoot up from his chair and looked down on his father. " No. I do not care about being the clan leader." He spoke forcefully, voice rising slightly. Spite was the thing that fired his eyes. " But if it is the only way that you may acknowledge me anywhere near the level that you acknowledge Byakuya…then it must be of reason that I covet that position the most!" Koga declared indignantly.

" You don't need to prove yourself to anyone Koga! Lest of all to me! You are my son. How could I not acknowledge you?" The grandfather said with despair, sadness filling the void in his eyes as he stared at his son with pity.

" It is only you who thinks that." Kuchiki Koga commented before starting to walk to exit the room. " Have a good night, father." The last word was said with revulsion. He opened the door with more force than necessary and found his daughter huddled in a corner. " Senna."

The girl flinched as she looked at her father with nervous eyes. Senna scrambled to stand up straight and almost stumbled in the process when she stepped on the hem of her black hakama. " D-dad. I- I wasn't trying to…" She was explaining but trailed off the instant she noticed the coldness in her father's eyes.

Her father didn't say anything anymore as he walked away from her with a rigid posture. The girl let out the breath she was holding unconsciously when her father's figure had disappeared into a corner.

" Senna-chan." Kuchiki Satoshi was already by the door, staring down at his granddaughter with mellow eyes.

" Satoshi-sama." Senna bowed down respectfully towards the elder, keeping in mind to not act too cosy around the old man despite her love for him. Her father would not be pleased if he learned of it.. " Good evening."

The elder smiled fondly and caressed her hair with loving wrinkled hand. The girl slowly looked up to the elderly, looking into his misted eyes. "Shall we go, Senna-chan?"

With a childish grin, the young Kuchiki nodded her eagerly, loosening herself a bit. She was, afterall, looking forward to tonight's event.

.

.

.

" Yoh Senna!" The young Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez greeted the Kuchiki girl with malice in his eyes. He'd spotted his friend the moment she entered the hall with her grandfather, like always, and felt obliged to annoy her. " Wanna play?"

" You're just going to pull my hair again so how about no?" Senna answered firmly.

The blue-haired boy laughed with amusement, expecting this exact response from her. " Same old, same old huh? You're always no fun. With your granddad again?"

Senna narrowed her brown eyes. " You know, I always wonder why the two of us gets along even if all you do is make fun of me."

A rich laughter came from the young boy as he stared at the raven head with glee. " Because you're funny." He flicked the girl's nose lightly, gentle enough not to inflict too much pain on the frail looking girl. But he knew better than to belittle the girl. She could be a monster if you push the wrong buttons.

" Awww!" Exclaimed the Kuchiki heiress as she nursed her now red nose. " And you're violent! That's why the other kids are fleeing away from us." She informed him dryly. Then, she surveyed the place, finding familiar looking stuck-up nobilities filling the place and telling one another meaningless flatteries to inflate each other egos while back stabbing them when they turn around. She had lost her interest half-way and was about to look back to her friend until she caught something orange from a corner. " Who's that?" She clawed Grimmjow's forearm to get his attention while her eyes stayed on the young boy with an odd color for hair.

" Who?"

" The boy with orange hair." Senna told him.

" Orange?" Grimmjow followed her line of sight and spotted the one Senna was speaking about. " Kurosaki? Wow, that guy's actually here huh?" With the remark, he glided from Senna's side and went towards the young Kurosaki Ichigo who was leaning on the wall alone. Senna trailed behind him, not taking away her eyes from the young boy with bright colored hair. " Yoh, Kurosaki!"

The boy with orange hair and amber eyes looked up to the voice, eyes grew a little in size when a familiar face greeted him. " Grimmjow." He muttered, uncertain what exactly to feel about the development that had come his way.

With a confident and cocky smirk, the ten year old Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez came closer until he was already face to face with the boy a little shorter than him. " I never thought I'd see you here of all places. This is the last place I thought you'd show up."

The young Kurosaki scowled. " Shut up. It's not like I wanted to be here anyway." He leaned back on the wall, slouched himself, placed his hands inside his pockets and kicked in the air.

Grimmjow felt a finger unceasingly poking his sleeve and a whisper behind him. " Griiiiiiiiiiiiim…" That reminded him of another presence.

" What now Senna?" He asked the girl with slight irritation.

" Introduce me to him." The girl answered straight to the point as she grinned widely, eyes sparkling as she glanced back at the new face.

Rolling his eyes, the eldest of the three sighed in exasperation. " Oh Kurosaki. This is Kuchiki Senna." The blue head jabbed his thumb in the air, pointing at the girl behind him, speaking with actual disinterest as he introduced. " Senna, this is Kurosaki Ichigo."

The orange-head's face lightened up a bit at the name. " Kuchiki?"

" Y-yeah." Senna replied, uneasy but not exactly surprised by the interest the boy was showing when he heard her family name. It wasn't the first that it happened. Only a few wouldn't bat an eye when the name Kuchiki is being mentioned. However, what puzzled her was his next question.

" Do you have any relatives in Rukongai?" Ichigo asked with earnest curiosity, eyes having that unnamed glint with them.

The Kuchiki girl blinked several times before answering, a little mesmerized by the young boy asking the question. He was looking at her intensely that it made her conscious of him and brought a blush on her face. " Uh...none that I think of."

" That snotty brat not related to this chit, Kurosaki." Grimmjow interjected casually, looking at the boy with knowing eyes.

" Ohhhh." Kurosaki Ichigo looked a little dejected but immediately wiped it away from his features. " Uh sorry. I'm being rude. Nice to meet you Kuchiki-san." He held out a hand.

For a moment, Senna stared at his small hand before finally taking it into a handshake.

His hand felt so warm.

It was a nice sensation to hold on to.

.

.

.

The dining hall of the manor owned by Senna's family had a stuffy, suffocating atmosphere in it. Kuchiki Koga was at the head of the table while Senna sat on his right. For two people, the large polished wooden cherry table felt too vacant. The clashing sounds of silvers and porcelains filled the muteness inside the hall, even the servants waiting at the side for their master's beck and call stood rigid, making their own breath as quite as possible.

" Senna." The master's voice was resolute and commanding. It was the first time that someone had spoken since the beginning of the meal. But instead of breaking the ice, it made everything and everyone tenser.

With the sudden addressing, Senna immediately flinched and stopped eating to look up to her father, a little distracted with her anxiety. The silence earlier was more preferable, much more comforting. And she wished it hadn't ended so soon. " Yes?" She answered with all the politeness she could muster her heart beating rather rapidly. She hated not being in control of the situation the most. She may appear carefree but everything she did was calculated.

There was a searing pause before her father glanced at her with a despondent look under his eyes. " You must uphold your Kuchiki name at all times. Do not let people in the clan have something to say to criticize you. It is more than enough embarrassment for our family that you've been stripped off of your future title…" His voice was forceful and concluding, gripping his utensils tightly. "…by a mere peasant's daughter." Koga's eyes were no longer on her but were blazingly staring on the floor.

This was the first time her father talked about what happened in the meeting. He's been cooped inside his study room and had barely spoken to anyone unless he was giving them orders. He'd been frustrated with the outcome of the meeting. And Senna had no way of appeasing him.

" And be sure to keep your relationship with that Kurosaki kid well. He's the only one left who could uplift the standing of our family."

" Please don't talk like I'm only using Ichigo as a stepping stone." She honestly didn't like the ring of it. Her feelings for the young Kurosaki—she wanted to view it as pure and worth-fighting for, not a tool for these political marriage.

Kuchiki Koga gave her daughter a questioning look. " Oh? So you're saying that you like him?" He compellingly asked, not exactly interested but a little curious. For him, this was nothing but business between two families. He need not prod but felt obliged to do so. If his daughter responds, it's fine. If she doesn't, all the better. That would spare them from the unnecessary chit-chat.

There was moment of hesitation on Senna's part before she admitted. " Yes, I like Ichigo, otou-sama." It was the first time she had admitted it to her father and he didn't seem surprised. Or he simply didn't care. " I love him." She averred.

There was that dreadful pause from the head of the table. " Like? Love? What does it matter? Those are merely emotions that put a person's head in a temporary haze—gives them the illusion of a bright colourful world. It is not necessary for you to survive." The head of the household looked like he was about to blanched at the very idea. But his eyes were directed to a picture hanged on the wall across him. The picture of his wife.

Senna remained mum as she just stared at her father's form. He had always been a cold person to her and to everyone else. This was no surprise to her. She began to wonder if her father did love her mother—when all he could do is to stare blankly at her picture in the few moments that he could spare her. Then she decided to speak in a cheery voice, taking it upon herself to lighten the mood. " But at least…don't you think that it's good enough that I don't have to force myself in this marriage since I actually liked the guy I'm being arranged with? It spares you the headache."

He gave her a curt nod and picked up the napkin on his lap, lightly dabbing his lips clean before standing up. " Not that it matters anyway. Just remember to let logic prevail…not your emotion. Lest, you'll end up as a laughing stock of the society. Our family does not need that." With that, he turned around and regally exited the dining hall.

The raven-head girl was left alone. Sadly, she averted her eyes from her father's retreating form and stared at the food left uneaten on her plate though her appetite was long gone.

-000-

" Kuchiki-san?" Inoue Orihime's voice was sweet and gentle but underneath it, there was that slight touch of anxiety. She stopped a few yards away from the raven-haired girl who had her back on her.

Hearing her name being called, Kuchiki Senna spun around; tearing her gaze away from the well-trimmed school garden behind the campus. Most students from her alma mater liked the rooftop but she had always loved the garden, though small it was well taken care of. A smile was tugging her lips as her eyes fell on the rather listless sophomore—the girl that was once a good friend but now, because of an unfortunate event from a year ago had grew distant and wary of her. " Hello Orihime-chan." She greeted before walking towards the nearest outdoor bench and sat there, making herself comfortable. " Come, sit here." She tapped the space behind her a few times.

The school sweetheart's hesitation was obvious as she eyed the space warily, her grey eyes wavering for a moment before she bit her lower lip and slowly made her way towards the offered spot. " Uhm…thanks." She said rather uncomfortably, scooting deep into the other side of the bench.

" I'm not going to do anything to you, Orihime-chan." Senna assured in a sweet voice as she looked at the girl with shaded eyes.

" N-no…I'm not thinking like that…I-I was just…" Her denial stopped as she opted to be silent instead, not exactly knowing what to say to make things better. When nothing but silence followed, it was Inoue Orihime who gave up first, unable to bear the tension that had suddenly build up between them. " S-sorry. I didn't mean it that way."

" Nah. It's fine. I sorta understand." The Kuchiki's voice was nonchalant, not betraying anything that she was feeling inside. If anything, it made her more intimidating.

" Uhmmm…" Inoue fidgeted in her spot, stealing wary glances towards Senna who had her head looking up in the sky now, having that far-off look on her face. " W-what did you want to talk about?" She had no idea why Senna had decided to ask her to meet in this place alone. The last time this happened, things went downhill for both of them, especially her. It marred the image of Senna that she had created inside her head.

" Hehe…" The ebony-haired girl laughed playfully before grinning widely her way. " No reason. Just wanted to chat." Came that most unexpected answer.

" Oh…haha…" Came that nervous laugh from Orihime then nothing but silence followed. She didn't exactly know what to say. Or what to do. So she sat there, stiffly and anxiously. Back in middle school, she had always looked up to Senna but always had difficulty dealing with her because the Kuchiki girl, unlike Rukia-chan, was unpredictable to the core. One could never guess what the girl was possibly thinking.

Senna, on the other hand, casually stretched arms forward, letting out a comfortable grunt as she did so. " Well, there is one thing that I wanna ask." She turned her head towards the bossom-blessed girl beside her. "About Rukia."

Inoue veered her head towards the speaker as well, tilting it in the process with a confused look occupying her face. " Rukia-chan? What about her?"

A shrug came from the Kuchiki girl as she pulled herself up and began strolling around leisurely, letting her hands sweep across the growing leaves of the plants in the area. " Well, I just wanna hear your opinion about her. Let's just say I'm curious." She halted sauntering and gave the bubbly girl an expectant look, compelling her silently to speak.

Orihime mused for a moment what to tell her. It wasn't exactly Senna's character to needlessly delve on one person's background unless she's really interested. And her interest is rarely piqued by people in general. To the ones she holds no interest, she simply ignores their existence. But ones she shows any indication of interests on a particular person, she either smoothers them with adoration or trample them unintentionally. However, remembering that Kuchiki-san and Rukia-san were relatives, she settled with the former possibility. " Well…Rukia-san is…she's really kind and strong. She's very admirable I guess. Rukia-san is a very nice and kind girl." She spoke with fondness in her voice and ended with a pleasant smile on her face. She may have been jealous of Rukia's intimateness with Kurosaki-kun but there was no need for her to mention that now did she?

" Hmmm…" Senna had been tapping her chin thoughtfully. " Is she really close with Ichigo?"

" Huh? Uhm…" Averting her eyes from the girl across her, Inoue Orihime stammered her response. " Well, Kurosaki-kun had been the one to helped Rukia-san and Nozomi-chan get back together as friends. Oh! Nozomi-chan is Rukia-san's best friend. She used to study here but she transferred to Hokkaido because her uncle is there. Well, Kurosaki-kun is just the kind of guy who will help those in need regardless of who she is." When she returned her eyes on Senna, she was surprised of the kind of look the ebony-haired was giving her. One of mischief and amusement.

A wry smile appeared on the Kuchiki's lips. " You still like Ichigo, don't you? After all this time?" There was slight hilarity in her tone, like she had discovered something amusing.

Inoue Orihime's eyes became glossy as she looked at the girl with perplexity. " I…uh…" The auburn head was obviously flustered and even if she wanted to cover it up, it would now be an impossible task.

Senna shook her head and held her hand up on the other girl. " Nah, it's fine. We've been through this before and the last time we did, it didn't end up well for both of us." The girl with auburn hair looked dejected as she remembered that fateful day as well and decided it was best to keep quite instead than to speak of the wrong words. " But Orihime-chan…" Senna cooed and smiled at the girl sympathetically. " I'm really sorry but this time, I really have to tell you with finality. You have to give up on Ichigo. It will be for your own good."

" I know that, Kuchiki-san." Inoue stated with grief, her voice slightly quivering as she stood up from her seat. "…but…but you should know too tha—" She stopped when she had noticed Senna's shaded feature.

" I really wanted to apologize for what I did that time to you. I wasn't being myself back then."

This time, it was Orihime who shook her head. " L-like you said with Tatsuki-chan…I did forgive you."

" Thanks."

" What are you trying to do, Kuchiki-san?" Inoue suddenly blurted out and even wondered why she asked such a thing. But it was too late to take back now and she instead waited for an answer.

A moment of silence passed before the sullen look on Senna was lost and she gave the auburn-head a huge grin. She reverted back to her causal self. " Nothing." She nonchalantly answered, hands on her back as she rocked herself on the heels of her shoes. " But Orihime-chan…I think you should totally try it out with Ishida-kun. He's a great guy I think. Smart, serious and all that. A little prude maybe but he will do. He will totally work for you! And he likes you. But I think you know that already."

A rich blush appeared on Inoue's face hearing the other girl's unsolicited opinion out of the blue. " Well…that is…Ishida-kun and I…we…uh…"

Kuchiki Senna simply chuckled at the girl's flustered response. " You're just too transparent Orihime-chan. And funny too. But since you already have Ishida, don't you think it's time for you to forget about what happened a year ago? And by that, I mean completely forget. Like act like it never happened."

The girl with auburn hair gasped for air as her eyes widened at Senna's words before looking away. Inoue took a step back and clutched her chest for comfort. She didn't give the raven-head an answer. She couldn't.

Senna understood her actions as she let out a huff and glanced up at the sky, seemingly to be in a daze for a few seconds before she looked back to the auburn head, telling her. " Let's go back? Tatsuki-chan won't like it if she learns that I brought you somewhere all alone—somewhere she'll surely consider secluded. You know, Tatsuki-chan really is an unforgiving woman." Senna mused to herself. Then she grinned childishly to the karate champ's best friend. " But it was great chatting with you Orihime-chan. Let's do this again some other time…over some tea and cookies perhaps? English people seemed to be fond of those. I've been in England for a few months and found their culture rather interesting. You should check it out too." With that being said, she spun around and walked away from the garden not even bothering to wait for Inoue Orihime.

-To God be the glory!-
