I quietly sat at the kitchen counter starring at my laptop screen and eating my cereal. Today was the day, the day I would collect my belongings and officially say goodbye to my life with Jeff.
"Good morning" said Nattie as she entered the kitchen.
"Morning"
"What are you looking at" she asked
"Places to live" I said
Nattie gave me a look "you know you can stay here as long as you want"
"I know but"
"But nothing" Nattie said as she got some juice out of the fridge.
I quietly closed the laptop and continued eating my cereal.
"You ready for today" she asked
I swallowed my cereal and shook my head "not really" I said
"I can come with you if you want"
"You have rehab Nat" I said
" I can cancel it"
"No, you have to get the knee better" I said "and besides Nick is coming with me"
"You think that is a good idea"
"Everything will be fine" I said "he is just helping me get my things"
"I know Mel but he um"
"What Nat" I said "just spit it out"
"Just be careful Mel"
"Be careful" I questioned "why"
Nattie looked at me with a look of concern
"I just don't want you getting caught up with him and you getting hurt again"
"Nat, we are just friends, that is it"
"Just make sure you keep it that way" she said sternly
"Nat, listen to me, Nick and I as a couple will never happen again, and he knows that"
"I hope so" she shot back at me
"He does" I fired back
"Okay Mel, if you say so"
Jeff poured himself a cup of coffee and walked towards the living room. He stood in the entry way for a few minutes looking around. Today was the day, she was coming to get her things. He did feel bad with how he reacted to her in the trainers room the other night.
He sighed and walked in, going towards the fireplace. On the mantle were several pictures of him and Melanie. He looked at each one, they were so happy, how things have changed. They had even made a spot for there wedding picture, which now would never happen, he starred at each picture one more time before placing them face down. He wasn't ready to take them off the mantle quite yet, but couldn't look at them right now.
"Goodbye Beautiful" he said as he placed the last one down.
Nattie had already left for rehab when Nick arrived to pick me up.
"Hi" I said as I got in the car
"Hey angel face" he said "you ready for this"
"I guess. I don't really have a choice" I said
He nodded and started to drive away.
"You know where you are going right?" I asked
"Yes ma'am" he said
The ten minute drive to my house, or now my old house was making me incredibly nervous. I should be planning my wedding right know, not planning on packing my things and getting my car. But maybe after everything, this chapter needed to be closed so another one can begin.
Nick parked the car in front of the house, only my car was in the driveway, Jeff's SUV was not so I knew he wasn't here.
"Do you mind waiting for me out here" I asked Nick
"No not at all" he said
I quietly got out of the car, walked up the walkway to the door, I took a deep breath, pulled the key out of my pocket, my hand was shaking as I opened the door and walked in.
By the staircase, was my suitcases and a few boxes, My things were already packed for me. It made my heart drop to my stomach. I walked to the kitchen to leave my key but the sunshine coming through the back door caught my attention. I walked towards the door and looked out at the back yard. Not too long ago, Jeff was getting down on one knee out there and asking me to marry him. I bit my lip trying to stop the tears from flowing. I quickly stepped away and went to the kitchen counter and placed my key on it. I looked around one last time and walked out back to the foyer. As I passed the living room, I looked in and immediately saw the pictures that were on the mantle were face down. The tears began to flow. I quickly wiped them away and grabbed my bags. I opened the door signaling Nick to come and help me. He quickly got out the car and walked up to the house.
"You okay" he asked as he grabbed my boxes.
I nodded yes and walked to my car that was still in the driveway with my bags. Nick followed with the boxes. He packed up my car while I went back to close the door.
"Thanks" I said as he closed my trunk
"No problem" he said "I will follow you back to Nattie's to help you bring your stuff in"
"Okay" I said as I got into my car.
Nick went to his car as I sat in mine looking up at the house.
"Goodbye house" I said "Goodbye Jeff"
"Hello"
"John its Stephanie, we got it"
'Really?"
'Really" she said "I am going to call Melanie and ask her to be at Raw on Monday"
"Okay, that is great"
"It is" said Stephanie "and Monday night this all comes to an end"
I pulled my car into Nattie's driveway and got out, Nick pulled in right behind me as I opened the truck. My phone rang.
"Hello"
"Hi Melanie, its Stephanie"
"Hi Steph"
"I know we said we wouldn't need you for a few weeks but can you be at Raw this Monday"
"Um" I started to say but she cut me off
"Its very important that you be there"
"Um, okay, then I will be there" I said
"Great" said Stephanie "we will see you Monday"
"Okay, see you Monday"
"What was that about" Nick asked as I hung up
"Steph wants me at Raw, she says its very important"
"Very important" Nick said
"Yeah" I said
"What can be so important that you are needed back so quickly"
"I don't know" I said "I guess I will find out Monday"
