Okay, I am late. Seriously late. I should have focused on compiling a few advance chapters instead of just posting the last one.
Regardless, I would like to thank Jessica Jayme Bell (Happiness is relative!), MajorCartooniac (I'll try to fit it in soon, then), and guest (I don't like M'gann much right now, either. When she genuinely tries, she doesn't bother me. She's not the most mature person, but she's growing. Mental powers really change a person's outlook on life, and I think that's most of why she comes across as she does—but she definitely went for La'gaan because she was hurt, not because she thought he was a better choice. You can ship whoever you like. Nothing's set in stone just yet).
"I'm sorry."
The blonde girl rolled her eyes. "Don't be. They both need to hear it."
No, this wasn't the stage for M'gann and Conner to listen to reason yet. They needed to reach their own conclusions first. And unfortunately, probably wrong ones.
Still, they were both good people and Ari had seen them recover before. Back when they'd been fictional and amusing, not a solid chunk of emotions and pain.
"Are you hungry?" Nightwing asked. "Looks like supper might not happen, but we have plenty of snacks. And drinks, too, since you need to replenish some fluids. What do you want?"
"Um, I'm . . . fine, water would be . . . fine."
Artemis's sharp eyes were glinting as her friend rummaged through the fridge and pulled out three apples. Nightwing handed one to Ari, but he practically lobbed Artemis's at her head. "Still got it," Artemis smirked.
Ari caught an expensive-looking water bottle and tried to ignore them. She couldn't. It was a petty squabble, but it involved people. She was drawn toward it. It was like seeing the climax of a familiar movie. She couldn't ignore something so strangely important.
That was why she was worried.
