Chapter 51: The Mad Doctor

"Hello Shade." He spoke with a German accent. "Hello doctor." Shade said, half trembling in his voice. "What's the matter Shade? It looks as if you've..." "Seen a ghost, yeah, you've said that every time you came in here." The doctor remained silent. His smirk was gone. He pulled a small gray device out from his jacket pocket."Oh god no." Shade whispered in fear. "It's very impolite to interrupt, Shade." The doctor pushed down on a the gray device. There was a beeping noise coming from Shade's straightjacket. Then His eyes went wide. Shade threw himself down onto the padded floor, thrashing around and screaming out in pain. "I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY! MAKE IT STOP! PLEASE!" Amy couldn't believe her eyes. Shade had just crumbled down at the push of a button. The beeping noise stopped and Shade stopped screaming and thrashing around. He simply laid there, on the padded floor. His vision began to blur, his breathing became heavy. The doctor stopped. "Let this be a lesson to you, you filthy mongrel. I am in control here. My word is law in this facility. You will behave as nothing more than a loyal subject to me, the ruler of this kingdom. Got it?" Shade continued breathing heavily and tried to sit up. The doctor slammed his boot into Shade's throat forcing him into the padded floor. "GOT IT?" Shade was trembling, and trying to get out a breath. "Yes." He groaned out. "YES WHAT?" He pushed down on Shade's throat harder. "Yes... Sir." Shade's voice trembled at that last word. The doctor smiled and took his foot off of Shade's throat. "Good." The doctor started walking out of the room when Shade mumbled something to himself. "Fucking bastard..." The doctor spun around in rage, holding the gray device. "What was that?" Shade began to shake. "N-Nothing." The doctor sighed. "You never really learn, do you?" He pushed down on the gray device again. The beeping noise began. Shade flung himself onto the floor screeching. "STOP! I SWEAR I'LL NEVER DO IT AGAIN! JUST STOP IT!" The doctor laughed, before releasing the button. "I'm sure you wont do it again Shade." He then walked out of the room, the door sealing behind him. Amy leaped out from behind the couch and ran to Shade. "Shade! are you OK?" "No..." He moaned out. "What the hell was that?" She almost screamed. "The-The liquid." Amy didn't understand. "What liquid?" He turned the back of the straightjacket to her, revealing six small metal chambers, stapled into the back of the jacket. The tops of them were flat and made of glass. Inside, she saw a red liquid swishing around. "But you said it was purple." Amy stated, still investigating the strange device. Shade's voice was weak. "It's purple when it's activated." Amy pulled him up so that he was sitting against the wall. "What does it do?" Amy asked. "You know that liquid you were poisoned with by that Audino?" Amy nodded. "Well, it's basically the same thing, but with an acid material that burns through muscle tissue. Which burns like hell..." Amy wanted to think this was all a dream. Soon they'd wake up in Shade's bed, and it would be morning, and none of this would have ever happened. But it would not happen like that. They'd still be sitting here in the padded room, in the asylum, in god knows where. "Amy..." Shade spoke softly. "It... It hurts." Shade's eyes began to brim with tears. Amy was shocked. She never expected to see Shade break down like this. She immediately threw her arms around him, embracing him in a hug. "Thanks..." He spoke weakly. It made him feel better. "Isn't there a way to get this thing off?" She asked as she gestured to the straightjacket. "Yeah but..." Shade's voice drifted off. "But what? What's the way to get it off?" Shade looked down at the waist of the jacket. There was a black rectangle with a thin slot in the front of it. He sighed. "There's a key card. It unlocks the hinges and releases me from the jacket." "So where is it?" Shade sighed again. "It was on the doctor, I tried to knock him down and steal it, but the gray device kept me from doing so. He ordered a guard to put it in his office." She frowned. "Damn... Is there a way I can get it?" Shade thought for a while before speaking. "Well..." His voice was a bit normal now. "I suppose you could sneak into his office and grab the key card." He chuckled. "Great, so where is this office?" Shade was a bit shocked. "Wait, you're serious?" She nodded. "Yeah, where is the office?" He shook his head. "I cant let you do that." She frowned. "Why not? We can get you out of here!" Shade shook his head again before saying, "No, there are at least fifteen guards between here and the office, you'll die if you try to go there. As your bodyguard I cant allow it." Amy was insisting. "What's the alternative Shade? sitting here and waiting to die?" He sighed again. "I'll go with, or without your consent." She started for the door. "Wait!" He shouted to her. She turned around to face him. He sighed once more. "Fine. If you must go, at least let us decide a plan." She nodded. "Alright, how will we do it?" They sat down and brainstormed ideas. None seemed to be good, at least not safe. Amy then had an idea. "How many guards are out there?" Shade shrugged. "Fifteen, give or take a few. Why?" Amy smiled. "How about I go to grab the key card, and you cause a distraction? a violent distraction, which is bound to draw a few more guards into the room, lowering the risk." Shade smiled. "It sounds like a good plan, but the doctor only comes in here every other day." Amy sighed. "So we have to wait for him to come here?" Shade nodded. "Seems that way." "I guess we can keep each other company until then." Amy said, right before yawning. "It must be getting close to night time." Shade nodded. "Which means the lights will go out soon. Lets get to bed." Then, without warning, the bright lights in the padded room vanished, allowing the darkness to take over. Except for the area that Shade's rings lit. "Come on, lets go to sleep." Shade and Amy walked over to the couch and laid down together. Amy wrapped her arms around him as he laid there. He smiled and spoke. "Guess it's roll reversal night?" Amy smiled. "Yeah, you're in my arms now." They both joked with each other for a few minutes before falling into a deep sleep.
