Under Different Circumstances
Anniversary
I so failed at my own planning.

Under Different Circumstances
Anniversary
Jean-Pierre woke up that morning, earlier than usual. He set his cell phone alarm and the moment he heard it, he turned it off. He took a moment to watch his slumbering lover and let out a soft chuckle, when Vincent let out a loud snore. He caressed the younger man's cheek fondly and then left the warm bed, to prepare a lavish breakfast in bed, for the two of them. It was their one-year anniversary, today.
Jean-Pierre couldn't help but smile at the thought, as he made his way, to their kitchen and started taking out the necessary ingredients, to make French toast, before tying up his hair. He hummed to himself, as he cooked and once he loaded everything onto a tray, he made his way back upstairs.
As he put the tray down, by the foot of the bed and slid back under the covers, Vincent slowly started to wake up, roused by the smell of breakfast. When he finally opened his eyes, he found his husband smiling at him and a nice platter of food.
"Bon matin, mon coeur."/ "Good morning, love." Jean-Pierre whispered to him, as he scooted closer and kissed him good morning.
"Mmh, bonjour à toi aussi, mon amour."/ "Mmh, good morning to you too, dear." Vincent smiled sleepily at him, as they pulled away from their kiss.
"J'ai pensé qu'on pouvait déjeuner au lit, ce matin…"/ "I thought we could have breakfast in bed, this morning…" Jean-Pierre pulled the tray closer.
"J'vois ça, mais pour quelle occasion?"/ "I see that, but what's the occasion?" Vincent watched, as Jean-Pierre ceased all movements and gave him quite the incredulous look.
"Tu sais pas on est quelle date?"/ "You don't know what day it is?" He asked, slightly hurt.
"Bah, on est le 4 mai, pourquoi?"/ "Bah, it's the fourth of May, why?" Jean-Pierre looked chagrined and Vincent tried to think about what today could possibly be.
"C'est… c'est, ça fait un an qu'on est ensemble…"/ "It's… it's, it's one year we're together…" His lover said it in such a small, dejected voice that even though he giggled, he still felt bad for him.
"Jean… Jean, mon amour… I hate to tell you this, but we hooked up on the second, le deux." There was such a deafening moment of silence, he could have heard their neighbour's gold fish blow a bubble.
"L-le deux?"/ "Th-the second?" Jean-Pierre finally asked and Vincent nodded his head.
"N-non."/ "N-no."
"Et oui."/ "Yes."
"Mais… ch'tais sûr c'tait l'quatre…"/ "But… I was sure it was the fourth…"
"Non, mon amour, c'est le deux."/ "No, my love, it's the second." Vincent wasn't mad, but he was amused.
"Pourquoi t'as rien dit?!"/ "Why didn't you say anything?!" Jean-Pierre groaned.
"Well, j'allais dire de quoi, mais après j'ai réalisé, que depuis le début, tu faisais toujours de quoi les 4 du mois. I'll be honest, j'pensais que t'avais oublié au début, mais après, tu m'as demandé si j'étais libre le 4, pis t'avais l'air tellement content, que j'ai pas voulu casser ta bulle."/ "Well, I was going to say something, but after I realised, since the beginning, you always did something on the fourth of the month. I'll be honest, I thought you forgot, at first, but after you asked me if I was free on the fourth and you looked so happy, I didn't want to pop your bubble." Vincent caressed Jean-Pierre's cheek tenderly, but it did nothing to appease him.
"J'ai manqué notre anniversaire."/ "I missed our anniversary." He said.
"C'pas grave, chéri."/ "It's not the end of the world, love." Vincent reassured him.
"Si c'est grave! C'tait notre premier en plus!"/ "Yes it is! It was our first too!" Jean-Pierre was making a big case out of it and even though it was slightly annoying, Vincent was also incredibly touched, by the gesture.
"C'est juste une date, Jean, y'en aura d'autre des anniversaires, pis des occasions spéciales."/ "It's just a date, Jean, there'll be other anniversaries and special occasions."
"Mais… j'ai oublié…"/ "But… I forgot…" He sounded so pitiful, Vincent actually felt bad for him.
"T'as pas oublié, mon amour, tu t'es juste trompé de date, c'est l'intention qui compte."/ "You didn't forget, dear, you just got your dates mixed up, it's the intention that counts." Vincent smiled at him and kissed him lovingly. Jean-Pierre sighed and allowed himself this moment. They were silent, as they started eating and Jean-Pierre took the time to mentally berate himself, for having been convinced, for one year, they hooked up on the fourth.
"Fais juste pas te tromper pour notre anniversaire de mariage, là."/ "Just don't get mixed up for our wedding anniversary." Vincent joked.
"Non, t'inquiète, je sais que c'est le 8 août."/ "No, don't worry, I know that it's the eighth of August."
"… Jean, on s'est marié le 7…"/ "… Jean, we got married on the seventh…"
"…" Jean-Pierre was silent for a moment and Vincent couldn't help but laugh.
"C'est méchant ça."/ "That's mean."
"Pis tu sais que ma fête c'est le 28 août, oui?"/ "And you know my birthday is the twenty-eighth of August, yes?" Vincent teased him.
"Vincent, please, arrête…"/ "Vincent, please, stop…"
"Papa te l'a jamais dit, mais t'es né le 23 juin."/ "Dad never told you, but you're born on the twenty-third of June."
"Vinceeeeeeeent…" Jean-Pierre whined. Vincent looked at his husband and he looked so pitiful, he laughed and kissed him, on the nose. Jean-Pierre pouted a little and Vincent smiled.
"J'm'excuse."/ "I'm sorry." Jean-Pierre told him.
"C'est correct, mon amour, et tu sais j'te fais des farces."/ "It's okay, love, and you know I'm just teasing you."
"Chais…"/ "I know…"
"Bon, dans c'cas arrête avec le visage long et embrasse moi."/ "In that case, quit with the long face and kiss me." Vincent demanded. Jean-Pierre did as he was told and vowed to himself that next year, he wouldn't confuse his dates.
"J'espère que tu vas quand même accepter mes fleurs…"/ "I hope you'll still accept my flowers…" He added, as a side note. The only answer he got was another kiss, from his lover.
