Raid the Cave!

Star strained and grunted as she carried dozens of objects all around her room stuffing them into a backpack. Marcia and Liger stood to the side watching Star, in her panicked frenzy, not sure what to do. What does one do when their best friends spellbook gets stolen by a crazed birdman who had a giant spider and eagle as henchmen?

Marcia walked over to Star, "Look, Star, this is a stressful situation, I get that. But would it kill you to slow down for a second? You're going kinda overboard."

Several things spill out of the bag including a typewriter and soda.

"I mean, do you really need to pack this vintage laptop and this purple-y, bubbly tea thingy?" Marcia questioned gesturing to the typewriter and soda.

Star simply grabs the objects stuffing them back in the bag.

"Why don't you try some breathing exercises?" Marcia suggested

"I don't have time to breathe," Star all but growled in a deep dark voice.

Marcia and Liger look at one another and blink taken back by Star's dark tone.

Star picks up her large backpack and it immediately rips, things spilling out.

Even with the bag barely usable Star still tries to carry it.

"I can't waste a...sec...ond!" She strained trying to pull the bag.

The bag is too much for her, and she ends up falling back. Star yelled and flailed her arms looking very much like a turtle that had been overturned onto its shell.

"Need some help there?" Marcia offered in a somewhat sarcastic tone.

"No! I am a strong, independent warrior princess." Star said

Star pulls out her wand using a magical blast to force herself into the air. She comes back down landing right side up.

"At the very least, you should give your mom a call," Marcia walked over to Star's mirror, "Someone has to fill her in."

Star ran over quickly fixing the curtains over her mirror.

"No-no-no! You cannot call my mother. She'd kill me if she found out about this. Ludo stole my book! He...He took Glossaryck! I made this mess. And I'm gonna be the one who cleans it up."

Marcia sighs facepalming herself. She gives a side glance to Liger.

"I'm going to have to go with her aren't I?"

Liger nodded his head.

Marcia followed Star through a dimensional portal. Their destination? Buff Frog's home. Star barely squeezed through the portal landing on her face.

Marcia gave a small smirk crossing her arms. "Told you your backpack was too heavy."

Marcia helped Star stand up as they greeted a startled Buff Frog.

"Buff Frog, I need to know where Ludo's hiding. I think he's planning something big," Star said

"Yes, I know. Did you not get my letters?" Buff Frog questioned

"Letters? You mean these?" Star held up several pieces of paper covered in various scribbles and drawings consisting of Ludo, corn, and a skull and crossbones. It was pretty much illegible and it also didn't help that everything was written in crayon.

"I thought the babies were sending us fan art," Star said

"Yeah, I mean it is all written in crayon," Marcia pointed out.

"Oh, so I not go to school for learn fancy handwriting. Sorry!" Buff Frog said offended

Buff Frog pulled out a rolled up piece of paper, unfurling it on his table.

"I make this map when I infiltrate Ludo's lair. I mark secret entrance here."

"Thank you, Buff Frog! This is exactly what we need!" Star said

Star grabs the map rolling it back up. She tries sticking it into her large pack but can't reach around the girth of the bag. She starts to tip backwards but luckily Buff Frog holds her up.

Star gave a sheepish laugh, "Uh, double thank you."

"You do not need big bag," Buff Frog removed Star's bag.

"I tried telling her that," Marcia said

"Hey!" Star whined as her bag was pulled away.

"Only need wand," Buff Frog stated

"Hmm," Star hummed staring at her wand.

"By the way what is with large furry creature?" Buff Frog asked

He pointed behind Marcia to Liger. The large cat was licking its front paw, but paused as he was called out.

"That's Liger, he's kind of like, I don't know a pet?" Marcia said

"Giant scary cat will be good against Ludo's rats," Buff Frog said

"That's the plan," Marcia said

The entrance to Ludo's hideout was being guarded by two monsters, one that resembled a bear and another that resembles a squirrel.

"Huh?"

One of the guards looked quizzically as something approaches from the distance. They continued to stare as the object got bigger and bigger. What was this thing barrelling towards the monsters? It was one angry princess along with her best friend.

Star let out a war cry followed by magic blasts as she rides a Waricorn. Marcia followed close behind riding Liger. The two barrel right through the entrance, and for some reason the guards were unfazed.

For some odd reason, Ludo's hideout seemed to double as a corn processing warehouse. Towards the center of the cave was a large corn grinder milling the crops. Star shot out a metal panel from a chute in the ceiling creating a makeshift surfing board. She and Marcia hopped on the metal board using it to ride down to the bottom of the corn grinder. As they reached the bottom Star shoots out the bottom door allowing the girls to enter the next room, which was filled with confused monsters.

"Huh?"

The two girls gave their enemies no chance to defend or attack.

"Cupcake Blast! Tiara Tornado!"

While Star fired off magical blasts Marcia used her karate to attack.

Marcia ran at a monster performing an amazing move flipping the larger creature over herself knocking the monster out.

"Whoa…." Marcia gasped amazed she was able to do that.

"Marcia, that was cool," Star spoke also amazed by Marcia's feat, "Have you been working out?"

"No, but that was cool," Marcia said

"Stardust Daisy Devastation!"

Star finishes the girl's raid with a blast of daisy pollen taking out the rest of the monsters. Star grabs a gnome-like monster picking him up by his beard.

"Where's Ludo?" Star questioned in a threatening tone.

"Who-do?"

"Don't you play dumb with me. I know he's here!" Star shouted

Star's interrogation was interrupted by an elephant monster entering the room.

He was wearing a shower cap a towel draped around his waist as he held a scrub brush. He was also dripping water on the floor signaling he had just recently gotten out of the shower.

"Hey, guys, I know it's lame, but we gotta make a chore chart or something. That shower is grody-!" He paused seeing the fallen monsters strewn about the room. "Oh, no. Violence."

"Okay, what is going on here?" Star questioned dropping the gnome.

A bird woman monster lifted her head replying, "We're not, like, fighting monsters. We're 'alternative; monsters."

Marcia picked up an ax and sword. "Then what's up with all the weapons?"

"We found them here when we moved in. They're perfect for tearing fashionable holes in clothes."

A mole monster grabs the side of Marcia's poncho and uses a spear to tear a hole in it.

"You're one of us now."

Marcia frowned, she just made that poncho. Good thing she had a backup at home.

Seeing as the monsters weren't really a threat, Marcia and Star explored the cave with no issues. Well maybe one issue, they couldn't find a single trace of Ludo.

"This place really is abandoned," Marcia said

Star groaned, "This was all a waste of time. Oh, poor Glossaryck. Who knows what horrible things Ludo's doing to him?"

"Star, I know you don't want to hear this but maybe it's time to call your mom and-!"

Star covered Marcia's mouth. "For the last time, Marcia, we're not calling my mom!"

"Oh come on Star! You need to think rationally right now! You're not seeing the situation clearly," Marcia said

Marcia's words seemed to spark something inside of Star.

"Seeing clearly? That's it. I'll use the spying spell!"

"Since when do you know a spying spell?" Marcia questioned

Star cut her eyes away from Marcia avoiding eye contact, the guilt of what happened to Marcia's guitar on the night of the dance still pretty fresh.

"Uh...since I learned it. A while ago. You weren't there," Star quickly said, "Now hush hush, I need absolute concentration, no distractions!"

Marcia pretends to zip her lips throwing away the key, she looks to Liger who was keeping busy by using his hind legs to scratch himself.

Star pulled out her wand and starts to recite the spell.

"I summon the All-Seeing Eye to tear a hole to let me spy. Or was it 'in the sky'?"

With her small slip up Star creates a large bubble, which pops sending Star and Marcia flying across the room.

"I'm gonna feel that on in the morning," Marcia groaned rubbing her head.

Liger walked over to Marcia licking the girls head, messing up her hair.

"Oof! Ow," Star sat up shaking off the spells rebound, "Well, that wasn't it. I summon the All-Seeing Eye-"

This time Star created four giant eyeballs that had spiders for legs.

"Aah! Eww." Star gagged

Third time's the charm.

"I summon the All-Seeing Eye to tear a hole into the sky. Reveal to me that which is hidden. Unveil to me what is forbidden."

This time it works as the All-Seeing Eye appears.

"Oh cool," Marcia whispered

The large eye opens revealing one of the monsters in the cave dyeing a pair of jeans.

"What? Ugh, not you." Star moves the eye trying to locate Ludo and Glossaryck.

Next it shows Marcia's parents about to kiss.

"Ew! Gross! Star turn it away!" Marcia shouted

Star quickly moves the eye off the couple. Janna comes into view, the teen pouring some oil outside the door of one of the classrooms at school.

"Janna, you scoundrel," Star giggled

Who did the eye show next? It was Tom cutting his toenails by using a large electric saw.

"Ugh!" Both girls groaned a tad disgusted.

"That's an image I did not need to see," Marcia said

Star was having trouble jumping from person to person not locating Glossaryck.

"Come on Star you can do it, I know you can just concentrate," Marcia quietly cheered

Star took a deep breath, "Concentrate. Concentrate on Glossaryck."

The All-Seeing Eye refocused opening to the scene of a cave. In the cave was Spider and Eagle sleeping on the ground. But also Glossaryck is there meditating on top of the spellbook.

Star gasped, "Glossaryck! Don't worry, I'm coming to rescue you!"

Glossaryck turned to face Star, turns out he wasn't meditating but chowing down a pudding cup.

"Wait. Is that...pudding?" Star questioned

"A whole tub of pudding," Glossaryck stated

"Where are you?" Star asked

"In flavor heaven!" Glossaryck exclaimed

Marcia slapped her forehead.

"No. Physically, where are you?" Star pressed

Glossaryck looked down, "...On the ground."

Marcia slapped her forehead a second time.

Star sighed getting just as frustrated as her friend, "No. Where are you in the universe?"

"Oh. Right. I'm in a cave. On the ground," Glossaryck said

Marcia went to slap her forehead for the third time but Liger put a paw between her hand and forehead, so she only came in contact with plush fur.

"Glossaryck, come on!" Star shouted

She reaches out to Glossaryck, but her hand bumps against the window of the All-Seeing Eye. The surface of the eye ripples just like when the surface of a body of water is disturbed.

"The spying spell doesn't work that way," Glossaryck said

Star didn't give up and presses her hand against the window closing her eyes. As she tried harder to break through, the hearts on her cheeks start to glow. The barrier starts to bend in becoming more malleable like rubber.

Glossaryck observes her actions intently while still eating pudding. Star opens her eyes, and they were glowing too, she gives one final push and her hand breaks through the barrier.

"Hm. I have never seen that before," Glossaryck said

Star strained to keep her hand on the other side, "Just...grab my hand!"

"Oh, no can do. Sorry. I belong to the book, and the book belongs to Ludo now," Glossaryck said

"Ludo stole you!" Star shouted

"Well, that's out of my hands," Glossaryck said

"Come on, Glossaryck, I can almost reach you. Come on!" Star said

Glossaryck simply nodded his head not reaching for Star at all. "Yes, you are surprisingly close."

A sadden expression overtakes Star's face.

"Glossaryck, don't you want to come with me? I thought we were...friends."

"Friends? Well, that's such a simple concept," Glossaryck said

Marcia gasped finally getting up from her position on the ground.

Star stops glowing and the All-Seeing Eye starts to close.

"Glossaryck, come on! My mom is gonna ground me for, like, a thousand years!" Star shouted

"Yes, probably, but you'll be fine. Or not. Anyway, your spell is collapsing," Glossaryck nonchalantly said

"But I need you!" Star said

"Maybe this is what you need," Glossaryck said

Star couldn't hold out any longer and pulls her hand out just as the eye closes vanishing.

"Star!" Marcia ran over checking her friend. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, my hand's fine."

To prove her point she held up her hand wiggling her fingers.

"That's not what I meant. That blue-skinned jerk," Marcia said

"Well it looks like Glossaryck is no longer on the team," Star said

"Glossaryck never really struck me as a 'team player' anyway. Just remember you're not alone Star you'll always have me," Marcia smiled holding her hand up.

Star smiled giving Marcia a high five, the two laugh and Star throws an arm over Marcia's shoulder the two girls giggling as they side hugged.

Their short bonding was interrupted as elephant monster and bear monster enter.

"Oh, my gosh. It is her. We just realized you're Star Butterfly! We're your biggest fans!" Elephant Monster gushed

The two monsters run up to the princess bowing before her.

Star and Marcia look at one another before turning their confused gazes to the bowing monsters.

"Um, I think you're confused. Monsters hate me," Star said

Elephant Monster shrugged his shoulders, "Well, sure, it's not popular to like you, but we're not about that."

"Yeah! You're the rebel princess!" Bear Monster cheered

"Rebel princess?" Star said

"Yeah! You do things your own way! Like us!" Bear Monster said

"Please, shoot us with a spell! Rip some awesome holes in our jeans! Something!" Elephant Monster said

Star looked to Marcia who just shrugged her shoulders.

"Um, I guess I could cast something. How about...Super Strawberry Shake Quake?"

An energy blast made of strawberries hits the monsters. The two get up covered in burns, their clothing ripped, but they were also now berry scented.

"Wow! That is awesome!" Bear Monster laughed

Elephant Monster pointed at his pants. "Look at this sweet rip!"

"Let's go show the guys!" Bear Monster said

"Dude, I can't believe we met Star Butterfly!" Elephant Monster said

The monsters run out the room excitedly cheering the entire way.

"That was….different. So, what now?" Marcia questions

"Now I call Mom," Star said

Marcia stood silently off to the side out of the view of Star's mirror as the princess talked to her parents. She gave silent encouragement to her friend as she broke the news to her parents.

"So...that's pretty much it," Star said finishing her story.

The King and Queen were silent, mouths open staring at Star in total shock.

"Oh, no, this is really bad, huh? I messed up! I really messed this one up! I am so sorry, Mommy and Daddy!" Star cried

Her parents stare at one another before looking back at their daughter.

"Uhhh…" Was the only sound King Butterfly could make in this situation.

Queen Butterfly composed herself before speaking. "Sweetie, it's...it's okay."

"But the book of spells! Our-our-our family history! It's all gone!" Star said

"Don't worry. It's just a book and a little magic man," King Butterfly spoke trying to reassure his daughter.

"What matters is you're safe," Queen Butterfly added

"But isn't there anything I can do?" Star asked

"Don't 'do' anything. We'll handle this. You just sit tight," Queen Butterfly said

"Good night, sweetie," King Butterfly said

The video call ends and the mirror cuts off.

"Whoa. That went way better than I expected," Marcia said

"Uh...yeah. I guess so," Star said

"Now in any logical situation I would say you should listen to your parents and sit tight. But knowing you, you won't just sit tight," Marcia said

"Your right a rebel princess doesn't sit tight," Star said

"So what is this rebel princess gonna do?" Marcia's necklace flashed and her pupils narrowed, "What's the next adventure?!" She asked excitedly

Star laughed, "Marcia you've been really what's the word….daring lately."

Marcia's brief excitement fades and her calmness returns, "Yeah, I've been noting that too. Not sure what's gotten into me."

Star picked up a notebook opening it to a blank page. "This is the next thing I'm doing, because a rebel princess does things her own way. Mega Narwhal Blast!"

Star fires narwhals out of her wand. The aquatic creatures flop around the room with no real purpose.

"Narwhals!" Marcia cheers

Her necklace glows again and the brunette dives after one of the creatures. She giggled as she rolled around chasing the narwhals.

Star laughs before twisting the top part off her wand revealing a pen. She writes on the cover of the notebook, "Star's Notebook of Spells".

"Chapter One: Mega Narwhal Blast."
