Chapter 52
Disclaimer: I don't own Sherlock or anything.
Author's note: I am unbelievably sorry for the long wait any of you readers (if you're even still out there) have had, seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if you'd all just given up on this fic. I am so sorry, but I had exams, and like a week after my exams finished I started work at my first job, I'm a waitress in a restaurant and it's kind of scary but cool because I feel independent and stuff, so it's been a little crazy. I will attempt to post more and quicker, but it'll still be slow, I'm just… becoming an adult and gaining responsibilities right now that I need to prioritize, which I'm sure some of you may understand. Anyway, thank you for your patience and I adore you and I hope you enjoy this chapter xxx
The night before their last day of their second year at Uni John sat at his desk, studying for his last exam, he put his pen down and looked over to Sherlock, who was sat on their bed reading a magazine to do with science or something.
"We're a third of the way through our studies." John pointed out.
"Congratulations, John, you can do basic maths." Sherlock said but had a playful smile on his face.
John got up with a roll of his eyes and went to sit beside Sherlock on the bed "You know what I mean, silly, I mean it's going kind of fast. We've done two years, we have four years to go, then we will be out in the big bad world all on our own." He said.
"Yes, that is what happens when your education finishes." Sherlock flicked over a page of his magazine.
"Yeah, but it'll be kind of weird and scary, to have to absolutely support ourselves and be proper actual adults rather than students." John said "But it's a good scary, I can't wait for it to just be you and me against the rest of the world." John bumped his shoulder against Sherlock's and his husband finally looked at him.
"I'm excited too… though kind of dreading it and almost glad that we still have two thirds of our courses to go, to be honest." Sherlock explained.
"Why would you dread it?" John asked.
"Because as soon as you're done with this course you're going to join the army… and I won't see you as often as I do now and that's daunting to me. Though I am certain I can find something to entertain myself with, mainly crime solving and building my reputation as a consulting detective. But I will miss you very much, so I cherish this time we have together." Sherlock said.
John sat in silence for a few moments then looped his arm through Sherlock's and said "I'll miss you too."
Sherlock smiled gently and rested his head against John's. John kissed Sherlock's temple and said "Now I have to get back to studying, which will be good for you because I swear, studying makes time go so slowly, it's so boring!"
Sherlock laughed and watched as John went back to the desk to study.
That weekend it was finally over, their second year of Uni was finished, their exams for that year were over and it was time to go home for the holidays. But before that it was a weekend of partying and celebrating the freedom of a six week holiday to come.
The year before John and Sherlock hadn't gone to any parties, though John had been invited to a few, but this year John was given an invitation by Lily and Jacob to one of their friends' parties where anyone could go, it was open for any Uni students, it was at one of the students' house shares.
"Wear something cool, Sherlock." Lily said.
"Cool?" Sherlock raised an incredulous eyebrow from where he sat on a bench outside the Uni with John, Lily and Jacob.
"Yes, cool, no suits or shirts, just keep it casual for once, if you're wearing a suit you'll stick out like a sore thumb, and you don't want to look too posh in that neighbourhood at night or you might get mugged." Lily said.
Sherlock groaned "Why do we even have to go!?"
"Hey, I said you didn't have to go, I can just go with Jake and Lily, but whatever happens I am going." John said stubbornly.
"Fine, fine, I'll go, I don't want to be alone all evening, I get bored." Sherlock sighed.
John smiled smugly then said "Don't worry, Lily, I'll pick him out something nice to wear."
As evening came it was time to go out, John wore blue jeans with a band shirt that he got from online. Sherlock wore a navy polo shirt and some grey trousers, he also had a black hoodie.
They put on some aftershave and went out to their first Uni party.
As they arrived at the red brick terrace house you could hear the thundering base of the music from outside and there were already plenty of people hanging around the street and walking in and out of the doorway, there were beer cans in the road and the bushes and things like that, it was already ten so the party had been on for about an hour. John took Sherlock's hand and led him into the house where in the living room they found Lily and Jacob cuddled up on the sofa "Hey, guys! Glad you're here! Go get yourselves some booze and come sit with us! We're about to start playing spin the bottle!" Lily slurred loudly.
John smiled and went to the kitchen and grabbed two cans of beer, he handed one to Sherlock then led him back to the living room.
Sherlock's senses were buzzing, there were so many people in this house and so much going on, he gripped onto John's hand and watched everything with almost manic eyes.
John sat them down on the carpet and opened his can and began to guzzle down the beer.
"Woo! Go Johnny! He's already drinking like a soldier… or is it sailor…? I forget." Jacob said.
Sherlock opened his own can and drank a bit. But soon enough John had finished his can and was drinking from Sherlock's.
"Steady on, mate!" Jacob warned John.
"Oh, come on Jacob, exams or over, it's time to loosen up and party! And this music better bloody get better because I want to dance later!" John shouted over the music.
Sherlock put an arm around John and said "Calm down, love."
"I am calm." John nuzzled into Sherlock's neck then took another swig of beer.
Two hours later Sherlock was laughing his head off as John gave him a lap dance, it wasn't really working because he was too drunk to stand very well and kept falling into Sherlock's lap.
"This is so hilarious seeing them both hammered." Jacob whispered to Lily, they had both sobered up a bit, while John and Sherlock had drunk more. John drank to loosen up and have some fun while Sherlock drank to perhaps start enjoying this stupid party more.
John finally just fell into Sherlock' lap and they snogged sloppily.
Lily moved over to them "Come on, fellows, let's get you back to your dorm before these public displays of affection turn into a display of exhibitionism." She pulled at John's shirt to help him up.
They both stumbled out of the house, leaning against each other, and Lily and Jacob walked them back to the University.
As they walked through the uni grounds John jumped up onto a bench and shouted "I LOVE SHERLOCK! YOU GOT THAT, WORLD!? I. LOVE. SHERLOCK!"
"Alright, I think the world knows now, come on down off that bench please." Lily said.
"This is why people shouldn't mix drinks." Jacob said "Seriously, beer followed by cocktails, bad idea."
Lily nodded and the soon managed to get the husbands back to their room, but Sherlock seemed extremely flattered by John's declaration and kept hugging him as they walked and therefore making them stumble.
Once in their room Lily and Jacob pushed them onto their bed and said "Get some sleep, boys." and left.
In the now silent room Sherlock and John wrapped their arms around each other and said "Love you" in unison then giggled at their chorus of that declaration.
The next morning Sherlock awoke to a horrendous headache and the sound of somebody being sick in the bathroom. He reached a hand out in bed and deduced that it was in fact John being sick in the bathroom due to the cold space he found on the other side of the bed.
Sherlock got up, did a little waddle forward, then backwards again as he lost his balance slightly, and then tried walking again. He made it to the bathroom and said "G'morning…" as he opened the door to the sight of John crouching by the toilet looking green and exhausted.
"Is it? I think this is a… bad morning." John groaned and threw up again.
Sherlock slowly sat down beside John and rubbed his back and once he had stopped being sick Sherlock said "I suppose we knew this would happen with the more we drank."
"I know… I know… god… why though? I just wanted to have fun." John whispered and rested his head on Sherlock's shoulder.
"You could have had fun without the alcohol, John." Sherlock stated.
"Oi. I know that… I just wanted to have a uni party experience…" John explained.
"Oh, I know you did." Sherlock said then stroked John's hair "Well how was the experience for you?"
John huffed a half-hearted laugh and said "Don't remember a bloody thing…"
Sherlock chuckled "I think I recall you giving me a lap dance… not a good one… and standing on a bench saying you love me… those seem to be the highlights as I recall them."
"Oh Jesus… a lap dance?..." John shook his head in dismay at his own actions.
"Yes, it was funny rather than sexy." Sherlock said.
John sighed and leant into Sherlock's side "Let's go back to bed and sleep off this hangover."
"What a wonderful idea." Sherlock smiled weakly and they both made their way back to bed where they snuggled up under the covers and drifted to sleep.
