Chapter 19 Katherine!

-December 6th-

Emma, dressed in a black pantsuit with a white button-up collar shirt and black heels, walked into the police station. Her father stood up when she walked into his office.

"Sheriff David," she addressed him, "I would like to speak to the prisoner in the interrogation room."

David nodded, "Yes Madam Deputy Mayor."

**Flashback to October 23rd**

Emma walked out of the bathroom, "Regina, did you see my badge?"

No answer.

Emma walked down the stairs, "Regina?"

Still no answer; she walked all over the house, "Regina! This is not funny!"

Emma got aggravated and walked back upstairs to see a note on her nightstand. She walked over and picked up the small envelope with her name on it written in her wife's handwriting. She opened the envelope and read the letter in its entirety.

My darling Emma,

You probably thought that I forgot your birthday. Think again, you and our son have the same birthday, so it is impossible for me to forget that. When you read this, I want you to put on the adorable outfit that will appear on the bed after you read this entire letter. I have a special surprise for you at my office. It was a special project that was going on while I was working from home. I can't wait to see you in a suit. ;)

All my love,

Regina

After she shook her head, she looked at the bed, and sure enough, a black skirt suit with a powered blue V-neck shirt was on the bed. Emma looked at her jeans and t-shirt then at the suit.

"What the hell does she have for me?"

Emma waved her hands, and her outfit changed to the suit, black heels, and the powered blue shirt. Emma walked downstairs, grabbed her keys, and left out the front door.

She arrived at the Town Hall, and she parked her car next to Regina's where the handmade sign that read "Emma, park here" was placed on a covered sign. Emma got out of the car, locked it, and walked in.

"Surprise!" Emma was greeted with her family, close friends, and her twenty-one-week pregnant wife who was also wearing a black suit but she had a red V-neck shirt.

Regina addressed everyone in the room, "Thank you all for coming. Emma, come here dear."

Emma walked toward her wife and began questioning, "Babe, what's going on?"

"Emma, since we returned to Storybrooke, I feel as if you had been…how can I say it? I feel as if you have been demoted from Queen to Captain of the Guard let's say. So, I feel it is time for you to be my equal once again. I had this special project going on, and I talked to the Governor. The Governor gave me the answer I hoped for and now, Emma, you are now going to be known as Deputy Mayor Emma Swan-Mills."

Emma was in shock, and everyone in the room applauded. She didn't know what to say or what to do.

Regina smiled and took her hand, "Come see your office, Madam Deputy Mayor."

Emma smiled attempting to hold tears at bay while Regina led her in the same direction of her office.

Emma got confused, "Um…babe…this is your office."

Regina turned to Leroy, "Grumpy, will you do the honors please?"

Leroy smiled and pulled the protective sheet down revealing the new titles, Regina Swan-Mills, and Emma Swan-Mills Mayor and Queen of Storybrooke.

"Damn it," Emma said as tears streamed down her face, "I didn't want to cry."

Regina kissed Emma's cheek, "Happy Birthday, my love."

**December 6th Police Station**

Emma walked into the interrogation room sitting in the chair with its back to the one-way glass. David led Claire into the room, sat her down, and cuffed her to the bar under the table with her hands still handcuffed to where she could rest them on the table. David left the room and closed the door behind him.

"Well," Claire began, "if it isn't Madam Deputy Mayor coming to grace me with her presence."

Emma rolled her eyes, "You are full of shit. Just because I am no longer here doesn't mean that you have easy access to try to escape. Think again. I came to give you a warning. Touch my family with your magic or your friends from the other side; your ass is grass!"

Claire evilly giggled, "My ass is grass? Please, you and your empty threats didn't stop me yet, Madam Deputy Mayor. Your daughter is still vulnerable, and you along with the rest of Storybrooke should be afraid."

Claire held out her hands on each side. Shadow creatures rose from the shadow the chair gave and pulled off the enchanted cuffs. They also pulled off the handcuffs.

"Bye Madam Deputy Mayor now is the time to put my plan in action. Toodles," Claire whisked herself away in a cloud of maroon smoke.

Emma's eyes widened, and David ran in, "Emma, what the hell was that?"

"Those," she swallowed hard, "those were the shadow creatures that almost took Katherine almost two months ago."

David knelt next to his daughter, "What do we do?"

Emma exhaled, "I want every patrol car out searching for her, when you find her, call me."

David nodded and left the room. Emma whisked herself away in a cloud of gold smoke back to her office.

Now in the twenty-eighth week of her pregnancy, Regina was having back trouble. Pillows, massages, back rub …nothing would help.

Regina leaned back in her chair and rubbed her very swollen belly, "Can you little ones give Mommy a break? Her back hurts very bad."

Emma opened the door to their office, startling her, closed the door, and plopped herself on the sofa. Regina rolled herself over to the couch and decided to probe the pissed off wife.

"Hello, you're far away. Where are you?"

Emma grunted, "In a place where no psychotic bitch 's after my family."

Regina giggled then began to question, "What happened?"

Emma sat up, took her wife's hands in hers, and decided to drop the bomb, "Those shadow creatures that almost took Katherine almost two months ago; they helped Claire escape."

"I need to lie down."

Emma helped Regina up, and the brunette carefully sat then lied down on the sofa.

"Babe, I have every patrol car that we have out looking for her."

Regina's out of whack hormones began to take a toll on her; she snapped, "Your father and the members of the Royal Guard turned police officers out looking for a magical person…I feel so safe and secure!"

Emma rolled her eyes and exhaled, "Damn it, Regina, what do you want me to do? You want me to go back to being the Sheriff? They are doing the best they can. Katherine is having a blast with Tink, Nova, and Blue. Henry is off at school with my mother. We are doing the best we can."

Regina began to cry, "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you. My back hurts so bad that it feels like it would snap at any moment. No, I don't want you to go back to being the Sheriff. I love having you here with me. We are a team again like we were in the Enchanted Forest."

Emma smiled then kissed her wife on her forehead, "Yes, we are, and we always will be."

The office phone buzzed, "Madam Deputy Mayor…"

Emma called out, "Yes?"

"The Sheriff is on line one, and he said it's an emergency."

Regina and Emma exchanged some worried looks at each other.

Emma replied without breaking eye contact, "Send the call to me."

The phone rang, and Emma walked to her desk. She pressed the button for conference, and she began talking.

"Hey, dad, what's the update?"

"Paul found Claire. She is in the forest at this old mansion."

Emma and Regina exchanged a thoughtful look then Regina realized, "I know where it is. You know in the forest where that clearing is to where you can overlook the entire town?"

Emma nodded, "Yeah…"

"The mansion is about a ten-minute hike north from there," Regina gave her directions, and Emma returned to the phone call, "Dad, meet me at the clearing overlooking the town. I'll need you before I go to Claire alone."

Regina closed her eyes as tears began to form threatening to escape.

"Are you sure you want to go without a backup?"

Emma concluded, "Dad, no offense to you but Claire will be able to wipe the floor with you. I want to keep my family safe."

When Emma said 'I want to keep my family safe,' she turned and looked at Regina who was in tears at this point.

"Dad, let me go, I need to be with Regina right now. I'll see you in about fifteen minutes. Call me if anything changes."

She picked up and hung up the phone then went to sit on the sofa getting Regina to lay her head on her lap.

Emma ran her fingers in her wife's hair, "Regina, listen to me. I'm going to help my dad and the rest of the officers get Claire. They need magical reinforcement."

"If I weren't a beached whale, I would go help you," Regina sobbed then Emma giggled, "You are not a beached whale. You are my beautiful very pregnant wife with twins on the way. You know I would love for us to take Claire down together, but I want two healthy baby girls born on time and not early."

Regina groaned, "I have to take it easy. I can't get overly stressed. This sucks."

Emma placed her hand on her wife's swollen belly. She felt the twins move to her touch and she smiled.

"I know, but think of it this way. In exactly two months, the twins will be here. We still need to name them."

Regina smiled, "I've been thinking about using the first letter of our first names for each one."

"I like that," Emma said then looked at the clock, "Shit, I told dad fifteen minutes, and it has been twenty. I'll call you when I can."

The brunette nodded, and Emma kissed her cheek. She got up and whisked herself away in a cloud of gold smoke.

David was pacing the clearing and Emma appeared."Let me guess; she started crying on you."

"Yep and I had to do a lot of sweet talking," Emma said as they began the hike to the mansion.

David chuckled, "I remember when we were expecting you. Your mom would go through these mood swings. I had to tread lightly because it was like a switch. One minute she is all loving and caring then the next she is biting my head off."

Emma giggled, "Yep, everything you said times two and that's my Regina right now."

They walked together, and they saw Paul outside the mansion. Paul motioned for them to go to him that the coast was clear. Emma and David quickly made their way to him and crouched down.

David questioned, "Anything new?"

Paul shook his head, "No, it's like she is waiting for something…"

"She is waiting for someone. She knows that I'm here. So, I will go in and have a word with her."

"Emma, be careful."

Emma walked to the front door, and it opened automatically for her. She walked in, and the doors closed behind her. She noticed a light down the hall and followed it into a large parlor room. The doors closed behind her and all the furniture disappeared.

"Hello, Madam Deputy Mayor," Claire appeared in the center of the room, "I was wondering how long it was going to take to get you to follow me. I told you that your enchanted cuffs were no match to me."

Emma fired back, "The reason you got out of those things was because of your friends from the other side. If you didn't have them, you would still be in that jail cell, and you know it."

Claire smiled, "So you think you're going to come and arrest me again?"

"No, I know I am here to arrest you again. Your shadow creatures know that gold magic can destroy them so they will think twice this time."

Claire laughed, "Oh really? I think it's time I show you what I'm made of."

Claire summoned a black fireball in both hands, and suddenly a gold cloud of smoke came out of nowhere in front of Emma. Emma's eyes widened because she feared it was Regina coming to her defense.

"Leave my Ma awone you mean wady!"

"Katherine don't…" Emma tried to stop her daughter, but the intensity of her Katherine's anger fueled her magic and shocked Emma so bad it sent her flying backward hitting the hardwood floor.

Emma was struggling to get up. Katherine fired a giant ball of gold magic toward Claire, and the black fireballs hit Katherine square in the chest sending her flying backward. Emma moved to where she was able to catch her daughter. The massive ball of gold magic hit Claire in the chest. Both Emma and Claire fell to the ground. Claire and Katherine were both out from the blast.

Emma held her daughter and attempted to wake her, "Baby girl…it's Ma! Can you hear me? Kat…Katherine!"
