AN: Mass Effect and its characters are property of BioWare, I just try and make you laugh. Original characters are of my own creation.
It's sad...what I can write when under the influence of...take a guess. More to follow if I have time this weekend. Much love to all my readers!
"You cannot prevent the inevitable" Shea heard the echo as she stood looking across her property, directing her gaze toward the brewery on the other end of the compound. "You're attempts to stop the cycle are in vain. You cannot prevent the harvest."
"Bullshit!" She growled. "I can and I will. You pompous motherfuckers may think you are all knowing, but you're not. And history has proven even the mightiest have a weakness and so do you!" A tightly balled fist strikes the wall in frustration "You will not take my family. You will not harm my friends. I will stop you!"
"You will try...but you will fail. You're only way toward salvation is to join ..."
The gathering biotic storm surrounding Shea in her anger would've made even Aria proud. The girl let loose a ball of destruction that obliterated the reaper's holographic display before her " Asshole, you talk to fuckin' much!"
A sharp kick brought Shea out of her dream, "Shit that hurt." Shea hissed as she pressed her hand on her abdomen, as if that action would lessen her pain.
Noticing her bondmate's erratic movement during her slumber, Lenea had anticipated her to wake abruptly, as she had been having the same dream the past few evenings. A gentle blue hand smoothed the blonde brows. Despite Shea's enjoyment of hair dye, in her last checkup she show elevated glucose levels and increased blood pressure. As a result, Dr. T'Lanin put Shea on a new regimen of nutritional supplements to reduce the stresses now being put on her body. Though she was able to sleep better and more frequently, her slumber was often accompanied by strange and rather vivid dreams. More often than not they were mundane, and focused more on her family life-past, present and future-but sometimes she would find intermixed a vision of the Reapers. With such advanced knowledge of them, Shea could only hope that her actions with prevent the destruction the reaper threat posed to the galaxy.
In the early morning hours just before dawn, Lenea sat beside her sleeping bondmate while she read a novel on her datapad, took in the features on the human. Though in a deep sleep, Shea's body appeared much too tense, the muscle in her strong arms flexing as she clenched and unclenched her hands while grasping her pillow. The furrow in the human's brow prompted the Asari to act. Setting the datapad down on the bedside table, Lenea gentle caressed Shea's left temple before slowly initiating a meld with her beloved. The scene Lenea saw in Shea's thought did not surprise the younger T'Loak. She saw the young woman reacting in a violently defensive manner toward the reaper hologram of her mind's eye. To Lenea, and all Asari who had the pleasure to bond with the human, it was obvious that this young woman would fight to her dying breath to protect her friends and family from harm. Nothing would stop her.
Though proud of her defiant bondmate, Lenea quickly worked to replace the images within to woman's psyche, giving her instead visions of their expected child.
Thick blonde locks framed an angelic face. Green eyes gazed up to meet the exhausted mother as she lay in the hospital bed to receive her newborn. Shea was full of love and adoration of her youngest, her first son. The twins, having graduated to speaking in elementary fashion thanks to their parents and extended family, each fought to be the first to greet their brother.
"I wanna see...I wanna see!" could be heard from both girls as Aria and Stacey stood toward the back of the room, holding the anxious two toddlers.
Aria spoke softly to Dana, in a voice so gentle and caring that one had to do a double take to confirm who was speaking "Keep your voice down girls. Your little brothers hearing is very sensitive. We need to use our inside voice okay? Can you do that for Auntie?"
Dana's emerald eyes locked onto the ice blue of her aunt...the toddler's voice dropping to a loud whisper "Like when I play hide 'n seek wit' Daddy?"
"Yes."Aria smiled, settling the sweater on Dana's shoulders that bunched up as the child wiggled about.
"Okay!" she whispered, nodding her head quickly.
"Have you decided on a name" the proud voice of the children's grandmother, Jennifer, softly echoed throughout the room.
"Ryan." Shea looked at her mother. "Ryan Daniel Nelson"
The mention of the name brought tears to Jennifer's eyes. Despite her long absence from Shea's life, her daughter still decided to name her first born son after her grandfather "Are you sure honey?"
"Yea, he looks like the pictures Dad showed me of Granddad as a baby." Shea smiled, leaning back towards the gentle embrace of Lenea, who stood watch over her weary bondmate. Directed her gaze toward the far side of the room...directly at the Turian who stood silent in the doorway "What...did you think I was naming my first son after you? Seriously?"
"Grizz is a very fine name." The tall Turian shifted to stand on one foot "Even for this scrawny little guy."
Shea smiled "That's more like a dog name than a human baby name."
Aria smiled apologetically at her loyal guard "Sorry big guy. Who knows, maybe you can pick his nickname or something. I hear humans are big on those"
"It is fitting that your our first grandson is named after his great-grandfather" Delaney put great emphasis on our, her arm wrapped comfortably around her bondmate's waist "He is a cutie Jen."
"He is precious." Glancing at the doctor, Jen's face grew serious as she addressed the medical professional "How long before they can go home?"
"Well, while the baby is small, he is very healthy and given how early is was delivered, he is still rather large given the circumstances. However, do to the nature of the procedure for early delivery, I will want Shea and Ryan to remain here for at least another week before I will be comfortable sending her home. "
"I understand caution, but why so long?" Lenea asked.
"We just want to be on the safe side, given Shea's history with her first pregnancy we just want to be cautious."
"Better safe than sorry I guess." Shea huffed "It's not so bad babe, least we get to stay on the ship, it's a home away from home anyway."
"That it is." Lenea smiled "We will need to return to the Citadel anyway, so this would just lengthen our time there."
"Hey, going to the Citadel's not so bad either Shea, Lidanya wants to see the children anyway, this will give her an reason to excuse herself from military duties for a few weeks."
Aria smirked, her eyes bright with interest "Just how long will we be on the Citadel?"
"A month, why?" Shea asked.
"No reason...Just asking."
"Riiight." Shea nodded, not believing the pirate queen for a second.
Shea's breathing became more settled, a smile gracing her calm face as her sleep resumed a more relaxed state. Lenea settled in behind the human, who now on her left side facing the window, embracing her as she too succumbed to a peaceful sleep.
AN: Been awhile since my last post, life happens and writers block sucks, so thank you to everyone who remains an avid reader. I hope to update more frequently this month. And, as for the dream sequence, I was thinking more along the lines of Lenea allowing Shea to rest and dream more peacefully on her own than directing the dream's content. After all...Shea would still control want she dreamt. Your support and patience mean a great deal, and your feedback is priceless to me, so please review or message me. I am always eager to see how I'm doing or to interact with my readers. I miss all of you guys, and feel so bad for not updating as often as I'd like. Hopefully with the slow summer season coming up, I'll be able to have more time to right. (People don't travel to the desert when its 115 outside!)
