Maddie Phelan, 14, D3
I enter the room. I have learnt skills these last threw days that I really didn't know I would process. I walk up to the swords and notice that the Gamemakers start to take notice. I doubt they are use to tributes from district 3 showing them anything thing with weapons.
I notice a line of dummies all lined up waiting for me. But I don't head to them, instead I head towards the target boards. Typically you can't do this with a sword because it is too long and heavy.
I spin and spin. Really I don't know what I am doing, but I decided it would be best to just go with it, if I get a high score then great, if not, then it's also okay. It doesn't really matter in the long run anyways, I am from district three, and no one would want to sponsor me.
I let go and it flies off.
It hits the board, sticking out and wobbles slightly. I look closely, and see it is just slightly off centre point.
I smile. It was good enough, and I am sure if a tribute was standing there, it would be fatal.
I really didn't want to stick around, so I built a quick fire to show I would be able to keep warm, and I did it under 20 seconds, which is really fast in general.
I then get up and leave without being dismissed. I didn't see why I needed to stay.
….
My mentor didn't even acknowledge me as I walked back in and took a seat with my escort.
He nudged me and asked how I did however.
"I didn't do too bad", I whispers back to him. "I expect better then Lee anyway", I continue quickly glancing at his mother our mentor, who seems to be drinking heavy loads.
Maddie…. With a 8", Caesar said moments later.
I gasp. "I got the same as a career standard", I said surprised.
our mentor scoffed. "Lower career standard".
"she got more then you if I remember correctly", our escort interjected in my defense making my mentor sneer and turn her back on us.
Lee Roberts, 13, D3
I head into the room and the Gamemakers greet me.
"Mr Roberts. Begin when ready", the one closest to me says.
I nod and look around the room. I really did try and figure out what I was going too do, but every time I tried I just went blank.
I went over to the wood, and showed them how to make the perfect fire. And explained why if I was trying to survive I would need too.
I then went onto describe the poison that could hurt me in each fruit, though I am pretty sure I messed it up at one point, because some of them started to whisper and laugh in the back.
I swallowed hard, not really knowing what to say now.
"Excuse me. Mr. Roberts, but… do you have any skills using weapons. Your mother is the victor. Anything she may have shown you", stands an elderly looking women.
My cheeks burn.
"Oh erm…", I mumbled, but never did finish my sentence. I walk over and take a look at the selection of weapons.
I look over and decide to pick up some small knifes. I start throwing them all over the place hoping that they hit their targets. Some do, but most just fall to the floor. I blush a fire red.
"You may go Mr. Roberts", sighed the same elderly lady, seemingly disappointed in me.
…
My partner got a 8. Which is actually quite rare for a district 3. My own mother only got a 7, so I am guessing she is hoping I will pull something out of the same range.
Lee… with a 4… calls out Caesar.
My heart drops.
My mother puts her hands in her head.
"I wonder if those sponsors I gained will stay after this four. Maybe I can tell them that you're playing it that way, so the careers don't see you as a threat" she babbles.
Kailani Cove, 14, D4
I walked into the room with my head up high.
I scanned the Gamemakers, taking in each of their many expressions.
"Hello", I greet. "I am Kailani Cove".
"You may begin miss Cove", called the guy with the long grey beard.
I walked over to the weapons. So many to choose from. I decided to start with child play. I took a spear and threw it hard at the dummy. I then took the hammer, and lobbed it, making it hit another dummy in the head, removing its head. I then used many of the small blades and carved rude words into the dummy's, all aimed at each of district member.
I chopped off the arms with the swords and showed I could do hand to hand combat, but ripping one of the dummies to pieces with my bare hands.
I stop and then explain to them, my knowledge of the tropical fruits and the dangers some of them could have of me. I told them how will try and use these fruits to kill my opponents, my alliances they would call them, towards the end, and if they realize just cut of their head.
"Well lets hope they realize", chuckled one of them from the back.
I give my fake evil grin, showing teeth.
"You may leave now Miss Cove", the guy with blue eye make-up in the corner said.
-
I sit next to Max. He seems excited. But doesn't speak.
I notice my opponents did well, Kenna only scored an 8, but that is still good enough for career standards. But Ruben and Athena both scored 10. I hoped I could match them. I knew I was good enough.
"Kailani… scores a 9" called Caesar from the tv screen.
My eyes narrowed. It's a very good score. But I wanted at least a 10. Max taps me on the back though. "well done sweetheart".
Max Greene, 17, D4
I smile my stupid grin when I walk into the private training room.
"Begin when ready Mr. Greene".
I instantly walk over to the spears, and pick them up. I throw it easily and it pierces through the head of the dummy. I throw another and it enters to crotch.
I smile at the Gamemakers and I can see the female's gush and blush. "so handsome", I hear another say.
I then head over to the tridents.
"Excuse me ladies… and gents", I smile. "But I am yet to see a games in which these bad boys are placed", I say indicating the trident. "If I impress you with this, can you gaurntee it will be there, or would I be wasting my time", I ask with yet another smile.
Unfortuently none of the ladies answered like I was hoping, but instead who I think was the Head Gamemaker stood up.
"You will have to wait and see , but please do continue", he proposed.
I start running, and boy am I fast. I throw the trident and it hits the legs of the dummy. I then leap at the dummy, and pull out my knife I had tucked in, and slash it's throa. I do a flap and land on my feet.
I feel pleased with myself.
"Thank-you , you may go", said the head Gamemaker.
I bow, and leave.
…..
I watch as Kailani gets a 9. I always knew she would do well. I have trained with her in the academy for years. I also know she doesn't know half of my potential. I did most of my training at home, I only really went to the training centre because I knew it made me look good to others and Katrina.
"Max receives a… 9", calls Caesar.
I grin, and I can see that Kailani is surprised.
"Well done Max. I guess I can take you more seriously now", see says quite honestly.
"I guess you can", I reply with a cheeky wink.
