Surprise surprise, I'm back :) I guess I can try my best to update again. I just read all of your reviews and felt so touched about how much you liked my story. I guess I didn't think that many people read it to be honest. I don't even know if any of ya'll will see this to be honest, but I'm back! For now at least. I've still only just come to this site so please give me a moment to adjust before badgering me to update like crazy. I'll just promise to do my best. Anyways, I hope this chapter is sufficient
"Yes yes, see Hiro has a rare disorder known as low latent inhibition." Dr. Frances spoke in a low voice to Aunt Cass and Tadashi. Little Hiro was sitting around in the waiting room, seemingly analyzing little toy block with bright letters painted on with cheap paint.
"Low whatzit?" Aunt Cass asks, eyes wide in shock. Tadashi frowned at this and nodded his head in understanding, having read about said disorder in his psychology books before.
"Low latent inhibition. See, Hiro views things as pieces rather than the whole." The doctor explained to a slightly still confused Aunt Cass. She looked to her eldest nephew for a simpler breakdown.
"What he means is that…see that clock on the wall?" Tadashi asks, pointing to the large grandfather clock out in the waiting room. Aunt Cass nods, unsure of what this had to do with Hiro and his apparent disorder. "Well you and I just see the clock for what it is on the outside. Hiro sees everything. The gears, the knobs, dials, everything. He can picture the entire interior, piece by piece, right?" Tadashi explains, looking to Doctor Frances for approval.
"Precisely. I couldn't have summed it up better myself." Dr. Frances nods.
"Okay okay, well what do we do about this doctor?" Aunt Cass asks, hands covering her mouth in concern.
"There isn't much to do here. It won't affect Hiro in the long run and it certainly won't limit him at school. He will definitely be a curious child to say the least. My recommendation is to just treat him normally." Dr. Frances says with a smile after having flipped through his clipboard.
"Alright then. Thank you doctor. We'll see you in six months then?" Aunt Cass smiles.
"Sounds good. Take it easy." Dr. Frances dismisses, calling out for his next patient. Tadashi and Aunt Cass walk over to Hiro who jumps at the sudden noise of footsteps behind him.
"Dashi! Aunt Cass! We're still getting ice cream like you promised, yeah?!" Hiro asks, jumping up excitedly.
"Of course champ. Let's get a move on before it closes." Tadashi laughs, scooping the little kid into his arms and gesturing Aunt Cass to meet them in the car. She smiles and moves to settle their bill before hopping into the car and driving to their regular ice cream shop.
"Man I wonder what they put in ice cream to make it taste so good." Aunt Cass hums, licking at her strawberry cone.
"Well in yours pacifically, there's strawberries, heavy cream, milk, sugar, eggs, corn syrup, and vanilla extract. Possibly some salt, but not a lot." Hiro says chirpily, finishing off his own cone.
"Specifically Hiro, not pacifically." Tadashi corrects with a fascinated smile. He knew Hiro's brain was wired this way, but it never failed to amaze him to see it in person.
"Right. Superficially." Hiro corrects, growing sheepish. Aunt Cass smile at her nephews and drove on home.
The next day when Tadashi got home from school, he saw Hiro halfheartedly playing around with his usual toys.
"Imagination block?" The elder sibling tried, sitting down next to the cross legged kid.
"It's true, isn't it?" Hiro asks, fiddling around with a toy car Tadashi wasn't aware he had.
"What's true?" Tadashi asks, confused. He wanted to ask where the toy car came from, but knew it wasn't the time. For now he'd have to tell himself Hiro knew better than to steal from Daycare.
"I'm weird." Hiro blurts, looking up at Tadashi with his big, brown, youthful, innocent eyes. Tadashi was taken aback and placed a hand to his chin in thought.
"What exactly brought this on?" He asks Hiro carefully.
"Today at Daycare, we were supposed to write about an object. Mine was a desk. I wrote about the hinges it has to pull the drawer part out and about all the other things that apparently made Mrs. Hollander need to call Mr. Clayborn and make them talk forever." Hiro says all at once.
"There's nothing weird about that Hiro. It makes you unique, not weird." Tadashi says firmly.
"Unique? Meaning?" Hiro asks, less upset and more perplexed.
"Different and original. You're not weird, you're you. And that's not anything someone should make you feel bad about, okay? Mrs. Hollander just doesn't understand completely yet." Tadashi explains.
"All the kids said I was a freak." Hiro replies somberly, dragging the toy car across the floor.
"Why do you think they said that?" Tadashi asks.
"Because I took apart some toys there built it into this. Mrs. Hollander said I could just keep it." Hiro explains, gesturing to what Tadashi assumed he'd be; the toy car.
"I don't think this is the work of a freak. This is the work of a genius." Tadashi muses, seeing the impeccable quality of the toy.
"Really?" Hiro asks, mot having seen it that way.
"Oh absolutely. I don't think I've ever seen a toy car this cool before." Tadashi smiles wide, happy he was making a difference in Hiro's behavior.
"You can have it." Hiro offers, childish grin overtaking his once somber features.
"Oh, that's okay. I'm sure you'd rather play with it." Tadashi says, heart warmed at the gesture.
"It's okay. I made three. I gave one to Mrs. Hollander because she let me keep one and left the other one in the toy bin. I can play with it over there." Hiro explains. Tadashi smiles even wider, shaking his head.
"You're something else, you know that?" Tadashi chuckles, taking the car and placing it on his desk. He figured it would help inspire him for years to come.
