That night once everyone was a sleep Castiel made his way over to his things but rather than sitting down to play he just looked at them, wrapping his arms around himself once more in an unconscious gesture of comfort. His brain was turning over all the things he hadn't wanted to think of all day, and he didn't want to think of them tonight either. As such he didn't want to be alone. The bunker still scared him when he remembered he was alone at night. And tonight he didn't think he could make himself forget with committing his memories to paper. But what to do? He then remembered that Dean wasn't sleeping enough, and seemed that this was because of his behaviour. So if he went to join Dean, then maybe he would sleep more? That could work. Because while Castiel didn't want to be alone, he was also trying to be a good angel, so if being with Dean got the righteous man to sleep more, then he would be doing his duty, and not just succumbing to his own desire to have company.
With that decision made he turned to the sleeping quarters and made his way to Deans room. Opening the door silently he sneaked in and sat on the chair in his room swinging his legs backwards and forwards as he thought some more. While he was now in the room with Dean, how would the human know? He did not have an angels senses after all. With that he stood and made his way to the bed and climbed up so he was sitting beside Dean. He then reached out to touch him, just so he would know he was there. At the feel of his hand Dean grunted and flung his arm out. And before Castiel knew what was happening he found himself engulfed in the humans arms and pulled down so his head was resting on Dean's chest. It wasn't the same as the feel of being wrapped in Gabriel's grace that he missed so much, but it was close. With a sigh of happiness at finally finding the comfort he so desired but had been refusing to allow himself Castiel settled down, curling himself up with Dean and closing his eyes as he absorbed the warmth the man gave him completely forgetting that the reason he had allowed himself this was to help Dean to sleep.
Dean woke the next morning feeling more rested than he had in days. He was about to jump out of bed and find Cas, as he was well aware that he had over slept, when he felt a small body lying next to him. Looking down he realised that finding Cas really wasn't that hard, and certainty didn't require getting up.
"Morning Cas." He mumbled sleepily to the fledging who seemed to have his eyes closed and a small smile on his face. Was he getting better now? Dean wondered, he hoped so, he wasn't sure how much more he could take of the silent treatment. But when all Cas did was open his eyes and stare at him he guessed he was going to find out.
"Still not talking, hey buddy? Okay, that's fine." Dean tried to reassure the fledging, he also wanted to make sure that Cas knew he could come and sleep with Dean whenever he wanted too. Thinking about it, he imagined Cas missed having Gabriel around when they all slept.
"you know, I'm, um, I'm glad your here. I like having you with me. It er, helps me sleep better." Dean finally managed to get out, feeling like damn idiot. Though as he watched a very small smile appear on Cas' face at his sentence he decided it didn't matter if he felt like an idiot, just as long as the kid was good.
"Come on lets get up and make breakfast." Dean finally ventured to say. He was hungry, and it seemed that he had seen some of Cas come back. Maybe if they did some of the things they used to do together before Gabriel left, Cas would come back some more. He could only hope so. He missed him more than he thought possible.
Castiel opened his eyes and looked at Dean when the man awoke, he wasn't sure what to do now. He had come to Dean's room to make sure he slept, and it seemed that it worked. But what now? Dean suggested he help make breakfast when Castiel was just about to get up and return to his books, but instead he stopped and thought over the idea, he needed to make sure Dean ate as well as slept. As such when Dean rose from his bed and headed from the kitchen Castiel followed along behind. Helping Dean with breakfast would not make him a bad angel, he was just making sure his charge ate after all.
