Oh god, Deanna knew she liked girls. Always has. She liked their soft curves and hair, their nice scent and delicate features. Their hands, those were nice too. They way they walked with their hips, unlike men who seemed to walk with their dicks. Women were the physical embodiment of grace, even if some were a bit clumsy or rougher. To Deanna, they were all soft and graceful.

What she didn't know, didn't plan on or want in the beginning in any sort of way, was that she liked Cas, too. Deanna first saw her that day in the barn and it wasn't love at first sight, no chance in hell. It was, 'what the fuck are you and why did you drag me out'? It was fear and anger, but also a little spark of thanks. Castiel dragged beaten, broken and fragile Deanna Winchester out of Hell. She was able to see Sammy again, to live. It was the greatest gift anyone could give. But that didn't mean Deanna felt anything more than camaraderie (hardly even that). It just meant she was thankful.

Time weathered Deanna's guard, loosened her hinges around Cas. The angel gained humanity, began to understand what humanity meant and what it felt like to want to help others. She began learning slowly. There were many things she learned, like strengthening her bond with the elder Winchester. She knew just what Deanna loved and what made her feel just a little bit better; beer, pie and some soap operas. Most of the things she learned centered around Deanna.

Anyways, Deanna didn't really want to fall in love with Castiel. She wanted friendship, someone who would stay, for once. Deanna wanted something stable and firm, not soft and fragile. Love wasn't part of the deal, but it came to be anyways.

It came through Castiel's snores during the night, her brightened eyes when she saw something she recognized or learned something new, her lithe way of walking. It showed she had power and grace but chose not to use it. Castiel stuck through with Deanna, no matter how much of an ass she could be. She stayed and had no intention of turning away.

Deanna fell in love with the way Castiel woke her up in the mornings, when she slept in too late and brought her in a mug of coffee. Sometimes she brought in breakfast, but that was only when Deanna had a hard night and slept well into the morning. Castiel was there, like Deanna had wanted. She was staying and maybe that's another thing that made Deanna fall.

The two had been through so much together, along with Sam, her giant moose of a baby brother. Deanna and Castiel shared a history, one painted red and black by the blood of leviathan and human bodies alike. Death was always there.

If you thought about it, their story was kind of beautiful, aside from the body count and pain everyone in it went through. It wasn't worth losing all those people, people who were so close to Deanna. But Castiel helped with the pain, eased because she too felt the loss. It was nice to have someone else besides Sammy that knew what losing people so close felt like.

I guess it just made sense that Deanna fell in love with Castiel. It was kind of obvious it would happen anyways, I mean look at the two of them. Look at how they move around each other and stare at each other, like they believed the other had hung the moon. In Castiel's case, maybe she did. It was possible, although slightly crazy. Deanna would never know, didn't really care either way.

The best part about all this; Deanna's unexpected love and the story these two women share, Castiel feels exactly the same way. Sort of, she loves Deanna the way Deanna loves her but it was more or less love at first sight.

Castiel entered Hell, burrowing deeper for forty years and there she was; the Righteous Woman. Her body was distorted, sinister looking. Deanna's face was contorted and malicious, but Castiel looked deeper, into her soul. She saw something pure and warm, a protective harbor. A safe haven and she knew that she had to keep this woman by her side as long as was possible.

Deanna Winchester would be a lifeboat and Castiel would be the sea, carrying that lifeboat and its passengers to shore.
