A/N: So I'm back, back again! (backstreet boys tune in my head) Well, London was awesome and I was tempted to steal those crown jewels but it was impossible. BUt holy crap, they're big! Tower of London was pretty boring though. It was great in all. Hope you like anyways song: Seattle- Jason Walker. Thought it fit. Anyway, thanks for reading!
Oh and, apparently I'm supposed to say I don't own this or whatever, or so I've noticed reading other fics, but seriously, it's fanfiction, why should I say I don't own it when that's obvious?
Lexie saw Deb in the hallway and waved.
"Hey." Deb said, and then she really looked at Lexie closely. "What is wrong with your face?"
"Jackson proposed." Lexie stated, still in shock herself.
"Oh my God, let me see the ring!" Deb squealed. She grabbed Lexie's ringless hand. "Where is it?"
"I didn't accept his proposal." Lexie said softly.
"You did what?!" Deb yelled, and people turned their heads. "Sorry." She murmured.
"I... I don't know."
"So, let me get this straight. Prince freaking Charming offers you a ring, and you say 'no thanks'?"
"I just said no."
"Oh my God, what the hell is wrong with you?"
"I don't know."
"What do you know?" Deb asked, clearly really frustrated.
"I know that I said no and he walked away and I didn't get any sleep tonight."
"You are so stupid!" Deb said.
"I know." Lexie said. "But what should I have said?"
"I don't know, how about hell freaking yes?"
"I can't marry him already!" Lexie replied. "We've been together for what, less than a year!"
"So?"
"So that's too short!"
"It is not!"
"Yes it is!"
"Are you guys... Broken up?"
"I don't know."
"Do you want to be?"
"Of course not!"
"Does he want to be?"
"I don't know!" Lexie said with a sigh. She hoped that was not the case.
"What do you know?"
"That I am a mess."
Who else would be
Calling me at 3 am
Just to tell me
You're still there
The sky's still falling
Tell me what you
Need to hear this time to make it count
And to get you out of
Lexie walked past Meredith and Meredith stopped her.
"Hey, I heard that Jackson proposed!" Meredith said.
"How do you know that?" Lexie asked, hoping this was not all over the hospital already, not before she could talk to him.
"Good news travels fast." Meredith shrugged.
"So you didn't hear I said no?"
"I did... Bad news travels faster." Meredith replied. "How are you doing?"
"Not really great."
"If it's any consolation, I kept rejecting Derek all the time so it's probably in our DNA that we are afraid of commitment."
"That does not make me feel better. Like, not at all."
"Sorry." Meredith apologized.
"It's not your fault."
"So, what happened?"
"He proposed and I said no. You know that."
"I do, but after that."
"Nothing."
"Like, nothing nothing or something nothing?"
"Nothing. We never talked after that."
"Well, are you guys broken up?"
"I don't know, okay?"
"What do you know?"
"Nothing!" Lexie yelled.
"Sorry."
Seattle, I don't know why
You stand under the clouds expecting to stay dry
Can't you see the day you'll ever win
That battle
Is the day they'll take the rain out of Seattle
Jackson came into the hospital and then he immediately realized he had not shaved. He was growing a beard again, and he knew Lexie hated that. Lexie. She was in his every thought.
He noticed that people were staring at him and also realized word of the proposal had gotten out. Lexie had probably told Deb who told someone else. That girl could not keep a secret.
He saw April, probably the last person on earth he wanted to see.
"Are you okay?" She asked sympathetically.
"I'm fine." He lied.
"If you need anything, just say the word."
"Thank you, April."
"No, thank you." She said, brushing her hand on his lower arm.
He finally got why people thought her to be annoying at times. She was pitying him. He hated pity. He had been pitied enough. Especially by her. Damn April freaking Kepner.
He's still got that
Hold on you that makes you crazy
Your bags are packed
But you don't really plan on leaving
Why do you wait?
All that city does is bring you down
And you could get out of
There was one person however, he dreaded seeing more.
And there she was, walking to him with a frown on her face.
"Hi, mom." He said softly, pretty scared of her. He also realized she now had the power to tell him her infamous 'I told you so'.
"Son." She scoffed. "I heard what happened-"
"How?"
"The walls here have eyes and ears. And they don't keep any secrets. Are you okay?"
Jackson frowned. That was not the reaction he'd been expecting from his mother. "I'm trying to be."
"Did she say why...?"
"No, she didn't. I'm guessing we still have to talk."
"It will all be okay, son."
"I sure hope so."
"I know so." Catherine said with a soft smile.
"Thanks, mom."
"Your mother knows best. Remember that."
"I will." He said with a slight chuckle.
Seattle, I don't know why
You stand under the clouds expecting to stay dry
Can't you see the day you'll ever win
That battle
Is the day they'll take the rain out of Seattle
Lexie stood there for about a minute until she finally knocked on his door.
The moment she did it she immediately regretted it.
"Come in." He called from inside.
She walked into his office and closed the door behind her.
"Hey." She said softly.
"Hey." He said back.
"How- what... Hey." She stuttered.
"What are you doing here, Lexie?" Jackson asked with a low voice.
"I came to talk. I figured we should talk. Unless you want me to leave. I'm sorry, I should leave."
"We should talk." He agreed.
"Okay." She let out a breath and sat on the chair right across from him.
"Why?" He asked.
"I could ask you the same thing."
"I thought you were happy."
"I was."
"Then why?"
"Because, Jackson, it is not the right time. At all."
"Then when is it the right time?"
"After we've been dating for at least, I don't know, two years?"
"Lexie, I don't need that much time to know that I want to be with you forever. Why do you?"
"I need to be sure. Anything could happen. We could start hating each other after the first year or one of us could meet someone else and run off!"
"I don't want someone else."
"But how do you know?"
"How don't you?" Jackson asked. "Is it that you don't want to get married or that you don't want to marry me?"
"Neither." Lexie said.
"Is it? Is it really? Because to me it seemed like I was giving you everything you always wanted! But you rejected it! And I think that is because you didn't want it with me!"
"No-"
"Yes, Lexie. I just wished I figured it out before I fell as hard for you as I did."
Lexie tried to blink her tears away. But she failed miserably. "I am so sorry."
"Yeah, me too."
"Tell me what I can do to make it better."
"You can't. I'm sorry for pushing you to be something that you're not."
"And I'm sorry for not knowing what I want." She dried some of her tears. She could swear there were tears in his eyes. Jackson, who never cried, was crying. And she had done that. She. She was afwul. She had been slowly tearing his heart apart by being with him, and now he was tearing up.
"It's not your fault." Jackson said.
"It's not your fault either."
"It's no one's fault."
"I'm sorry." Lexie said.
"Yeah, me too." He replied sadly.
"I love you." She said one last time.
"I love you, too." He replied. "And this sucks."
"This really sucks." Lexie agreed.
Seattle...
"Why can't you just love me enough to marry me?"
"I'm sorry." She sobbed.
He held out his arm and she sat on his lap. "It's okay."
"It's not."
"I just don't get it." Jackson said. "All you ever talked about was settling down and when I am offering it all to you, you shoot me down. Why?"
"I don't know what's wrong with me. I just know that I can't do it. Not yet."
"You should have been ready by now."
"I know. I just need more time!"
"But I'm done waiting around for you!"
"Why? Why can't you just wait for me?"
"Because you are never going to be ready, I know that, not for me anyway."
"I am sorry." She said. "I-"
"It's not your fault."
"Don't ever doubt that I love you, Jackson Avery, because I do."
She kissed him goodbye. She then stood up and walked to the door.
"Goodbye, Lexie." He said.
"Goodbye." She said back.
Then she walked out.
That was the moment it hit Jackson.
It was over. It was really over. Yesterday he had thought they would be together forever and now they were broken up.
Fall, fall, falling
Oh, the sky keeps falling
And it gets so heavy on your heart
Fall, fall, falling
Oh, the tears keep falling
And you keep staying where you are
Lexie was watching him from inside an exam room. She saw Deb and Meredith join her.
"Is it true?" Meredith asked. "Did you guys really break up?"
"Who told you?" Lexie asked.
"Tina did." Deb said. "She came to us crying telling us what happened. She said it broke her heart."
"It broke mine, too."
They stood next to Lexie who looked out of the glas window at Jackson.
"What am I going to do now?" She asked.
"I don't know." Deb admitted, already tearing up.
Meredith looked at her weirdly. "Deb, are you okay?"
"No." She sobbed. "It's just so sad! They were so great together and now it's over! Just like that! I think I need to lay down."
"It's over." Lexie whispered. "It's only now hitting me that I can't walk to him and kiss him or hold his hand like I used to. I can't go home."
"You'll stay with me." Meredith insisted.
"But he's my home."
"It'll be okay." Meredith said a little loud, trying to make sure Deb stopped sobbing.
"I need to see Henry." Deb said suddenly. "I am so sorry, Lexie."
"Me, too."
Lexie was still looking at him while Deb left. He was just talking to Dr. Hunt.
"Dr. Avery is single!" She heard a nurse calling out to another nurse in joy. "Yay!"
That is when she fell to her knees.
"It's over." She said, looking up to Meredith.
"I know, Lexie, I know."
"I broke his heart."
Meredith had never been fan of the relationship but right now she wished with all her heart that everything would be okay. Because it hurt. Seeing her sister hurt.
Seattle, I don't know why
You stand under the clouds expecting to stay dry
Seattle, I don't know how
I'm supposed to help you if you won't leave town
Oh, can't you see the day you'll ever win
That battle
Jackson was still working when his mother burst into his office.
"Son, are you okay?" She asked. "I heard some of those afwul nurses talk about what happened."
"No, mom, I'm not okay."
"Do you want to be with her?"
"Of course I do."
"Then what are you doing? Go get her back!"
"There's no use."
"Your father had to propose to me four times before I accepted-"
"And look how well that turned out. He ran away, mom. No is no."
"But he gave me the greatest gift in the world. He gave me you."
"But your marriage didn't work out." Jackson said. "No is no. There's no use chasing after her."
"I'm sorry that you feel that way. But it was not just your father's fault. He was just too much of a coward to fight for me. Just like you are too much of a coward to fight right now."
"I'm not, she doesn't want me, she made that very clear."
"She said that?"
"Not in those words, but it was clear."
"Then I'm sorry."
"It's okay."
Catherine got paged.
"I'm sorry son, goodbye."
Is the day they'll take the rain out
The day they'll take the rain out of
Seattle
Seattle
Catherine arrived in the conference room. She saw the names Lexie and Jackson written on a board.
"Okay, we all know about the break up and we're having a bit of trouble here." Cristina said. "Who is in whos side?"
She wrote 'Meredith' under Lexie and 'Catherine' under Jackson.
"Jackson is our boss but we've known Lexie longer." Cristina explained. "So we're dividing people up so we don't have to choose."
"Write me down under Jackson." April said, and Cristina did so.
"Lexie." Deb called out and Cristina wrote.
Cristina wrote her own name under Jackson.
"Wait, you're not on my team?" Meredith asked.
"No, he's our boss, Meredith."
"We're our own boss."
"He has more power." Cristina argued. "Though I did raise 3. Well, whatever, I can just say she's not who I raise her to be."
They divided more people. Derek and Arizona were with Lexie, as was Owen. Alex and Callie were with Jackson. And it went on.
They were a family at that hospital, so it wasn't just a matter of two people breaking up. It was like a divorce. Even though the kids don't want to, you always pick a parent.
Cristina smiled at her board. She did okay.
Oh, can't you see
You'll never take the rain out of
Seattle
Seattle
The end
A/N: just kidding. SO they broke up. Bummer.
I really think this is my favourite chapter yet, like I always said, I love tragedy. (not in my own life, there's enough of that already) I hope you review or something,
thank you my new followers and favoriters or something, it's nice you like the story so far!
I want to wrap it up since I have an idea for a new story (also grey's), but I want to give this a good end so it will definitely be a few more chapters.
LEt me know what you think should happens next!
Thanks 92Dil, IcarusCal, Bekaroo, Japrilwillsurvive and whoever still reviews, hope you enjoyed and have a nice day!
