Logan POV
I walked the halls with Beth. Well, Beth walked slowly. Walking slow and talking slow is the only thing the surgery affected. Her hands still move at the normal speed they did. She still has perfect eyesight. Just talking and walking. Even then, she can still talk because she knows American sign language. I've picked up on a lot of it since I've been with my family. Leo knows some too.
"Y-y-you c-can walk ahead," I turned my head to look at Beth.
"Yeah right. So, I can get into trouble if you fall and hurt your head," I said and Beth smiled.
That's the one thing we have to be careful off. If Beth hurts her head she can be at risk for damage. Her brain is too vulnerable right now, especially since her skull is still healing. I can't smack it, or push it, I can barely even touch it.
We walked into Quinn's class. Quinn walked up to us and took Beth's hand. She led her to a desk right next to hers. Beth rolled her eyes and sat down. I sat at my desk and took my things out. I watched as Beth slowly took her things out. Quinn helped her before going up to the front of the class. She gave us our warm up and then we all started to write.
"Why is she sitting there?" Michael a boy in our class asked. He looked at me.
"Because she had surgery you idiot," Kat another student in the class answered.
"Okay, enough. Quiet down," Quinn said. We went back to our warm up and then answered the question.
We did popcorn Reading in the class and then worked on finishing our group projects together. Quinn worked side by side with Beth who had missed class. Beth was just going to read and write a two-page essay instead of a project.
"So, what surgery did she have?" Michael asked. I looked up and saw him in his group.
"Probably appendix removal," someone in his group said.
"I heard it was a nose job," Daisy, a cheerleader say. Everyone in there group looked at Beth.
"I-I-It was a-a tumor re-removal," I heard Beth say. Everyone looked up and at Beth.
"What?" Daisy said.
"She had a tumor in her brain and it was removed," I stated. "Her brain is healing. If you ball up a piece of paper and hit her with it, it can hurt her brain. If you push her head it can hurt her, that is why she is sitting there."
"If any of you were in the same situation you would be sitting next to me too," Quinn stated.
The class went on and I saw some people whispering to each other. I could see Beth slowly reading out loud in a hushed voice so that Quinn can hear. Quinn would nod her head every now and then.
"Did you know?" I looked up at Sarah who is in my group.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Like the twin thing. Did you know or feel like something was wrong?" She asked. Everyone in my group stopped working on the poster and looked at me.
"We're not actually twins," I said. They looked shocked. "I mean we consider ourselves twins just because we're so close in age, think the same way, and look alike, but were not. We have different moms. My mom never told our dada about me until I was twelve. That's the year I started to live with them."
"What happened to your mom?" Daniel asked.
"She's dead," I answered and continued my drawing on the poster.
Everyone went back to their work. We finished the project ten minutes before the bell rang. I went towards Beth's desk and sat next to her. She looked at me and raised an eyebrow as if to ask me what was wrong.
"Why does everything bad happen to you?" I asked her she smiled and shook her head.
"M-maybe be-because ev-everything bad that hap-happened to you, hap-happened when y-you were little," Beth said. I looked at her knowing that she was talking about my mom and Declan. I nodded slowly.
The bell rang and I helped Beth pack her things before I grabbed mine and we went off to our next class.
BETH POV
The stuttering sucks. The walking sucks too, but I am getting better. Aunt Brittany works with me on walking and we do some sort of physical therapy in her dance class. She teaches the dances too. We stretch and all. Work on walking and balancing. She says I'll be dancing again in no time.
"How is everything going," my mom said as she came into the kitchen.
"Good," I said and she smiled.
"You're getting better," she said and then signed Is Quinn helping you? I nodded and she smiled. I shook my head as I worked on my homework. There's a lot. I have a week's worth of makeup work and this week's homework. I'm trying to get it all done this week. Everyone knows that I'm a tiny bit behind. Quinn is helping me during class and sometimes even during lunch.
My first week in the hospital I tried to do my work, but I couldn't. I was tired and had a headache. Now, I can do it all. I mean that first week I was supposed to be on bed-rest. I just didn't want to be on bed-rest, I was stubborn. I am stubborn.
"How much more do you need to do?" My mom asked.
"J-just a l-li-little," I said and my mom ran her hand through my hair.
"It's better than it was last week," My mom said. Her fingers moved slowly over the incision that the doctor made in my head for the surgery. It's mostly healed now, just the skull part needs to heal.
"W-what are w-we doing for thanksgiving?" I asked.
"Family dinner like always. Your grandparents are coming over here. They'll be in the guestroom," she said and I nodded as I did my work.
Hopefully in a few weeks everything will be better. I won't be stuttering, will be walking straight without much help, and everything will be back to normal. Hopefully, everything will be back to normal by Christmas and Hanukah. Oh, let's not forget all this stupid homework. It al needs to be done by then. I'm not letting my grades go down because of a stupid tumor in my head. Nope, nothings gonna stop me now. Nothing will get in my way.
