Author's Note: This one was originally supposed to be about Klonnie but somehow is more focused on the rest of the siblings and their reaction to Klonnie.

A Snapshot in Time

Klonnie: Pregnancy

It only seems real when she places her hand on her stomach and finds a slight swell there. She is nearly four months gone at this point and nothing has driven the point home more than this.

She stands in the quiet (oh how she has craved the quiet) and splays her fingers over her skin. Her eyes close and she can feel it: a kind of energy that has always hummed through her body. Now it circles that swell in her stomach determined that no harm shall come to it.

She breathes in deep, squares her shoulders and then turns on her heels to walk back into chaos.

It's funny how every set of eyes in the room fall on her. Normally that would make her want to sink into the floor but now she stares back. Dares them to say onething.

Kol is brave enough (read: stupid enough).

"Now that is a lovely tale you have spun, darling," he spits, throwing his arm so that his hand points directly at her growing stomach. Part of her takes the action as a threat — he doesn't realize how close he is to flying through the wall. "But what proof do you have?"

Bonnie makes a face. "I suppose we could always do a paternity test. Do you think Maury covers hybrid DNA?" It's strange — it is only moments ago that this all became real to her and already she is prepared to fight against perceived danger.

Kol scowls.

Bonnie smiles.

Elijah is more reasonable. He has questions; she can see it in his face but she knows that he will be more delicate when he asks. "Forgive my brother," he begins (how many times a day does he utter that phrase?). "I am sure his doubt comes from the nature of your relationship with Niklaus."

"You mean mutual hatred?" Bonnie asks.

"Yes," he says with a nod of his head. "That."

Bonnie concedes that is enough to cast a shadow on her claims. She and Klaus — it was complicated before. Now…well, she has no idea how to even begin to explain. "I am not going to go into all the details," she says and ignores the roll of Kol's eyes. "Instead, I am just going to repeat the obvious: I am pregnant. Klaus is the father. This was far from planned…" In fact, she had been so desperate to forget the one night she has spent in his arms that she ignored the early signs of this pregnancy. "…but that doesn't change the reality of the situation now. I can't believe I am saying this but I need to find him."

There is no way she is letting him come to her — she is going to him.

She knows Klaus. He won't react well to this news. She wants to be the one to break it to him. She wants to be there to see his reaction so she knows what her next steps will be. He will not catch her off guard.

"I have no idea where the mutt has run off to," Kol says. He looks to Elijah. "Perhaps if Big Brother stands at the corner and whistles…"

Elijah glowers in Kol's direction. He might have said more but Rebekah proves to be the voice of reason. She steps between her brothers. "Enough you two," she begins. Her hand lands on Kol's chest. A subtle warning. "Clearly the witch has been through enough as of late — do you really want your niece or nephew's first impression of you to be one of bickering?"

"I have no care what the little puppy thinks of me," Kol replies.

Rebekah shoves him. Hard. It gives Bonnie a sense of satisfaction to see him on his ass looking up as his sister (she only wished she had been the one to send him flying). The blonde Original looks over at Bonnie. "Let's go find my big brother. I have a mighty need to tease him about contraceptives."

Bonnie blinks.

Her hand falls to that swell again and she promises herself that no matter what, her baby will be just fine.
