New Twilight

Chapter 49

Edward and Harry approached the small cottage they'd rented for the fortnight; Edward turned the car into the spot and turned the engine off. They'd ended up spending more time in the restaurant than they'd anticipated, before getting a taxi to the first car rental place and now they had their own mode of transportation. Edward didn't want to be around too many people, not while he was on his honeymoon and in two weeks Harry would be changed, afterwards they would find another place if Harry really wanted to stay - and he did so the likelihood would be that in the next fortnight they would buy a property, somewhere like this actually, acres of land and seclusion and a house.

"Where are the others stayin' I didn't even hink ti ask?" Harry enquired as he got out of the blue car, opening the back door and grasping a hold of the bags, which were full of gifts they'd gotten from the family. As always the family had gone above and beyond, way too expensive but Harry absolutely loved them so he wasn't too bothered by the extravagance. It wasn't like Lily and James, they cared, and that was all that mattered.

Edward laughed in amusement as he opened the front door, "After three hours?" Harry made an adorable drunk; it made him feel slightly let down that he wouldn't get to see it again after he was turned. A vampire didn't have the ability to get drunk, they couldn't drink it without regurgitating it, that and it tasted absolutely foul and not in the good way - like liquefied mud if such a thing was possible to imagine.

"Only three?" Harry muttered in surprise, blinking owlishly at Edward before his eyes narrowed, "YOU are NOT carrying me over, I'm not a girl!" Harry protested as he realized what Edward was standing there to squeal as he was hoisted over Edward's shoulder like a sack of potatoes. "Put mi down! If I'm sick I swear Ill make sure it's on you!" he was only put down on the sofa after Edward wandered through to the living area.

"I'm no talking to ya right now," Harry said huffing as he crossed his arms over his chest.

"You just did," Edward said dryly, sitting down regardless of Harry's words knowing he didn't mean them. "I know you want to watch the DVD's Emmett got you," he teased,

Harry grunted but a grin quickly crept out on his face, "That's what you've decide we'll do on our honeymoon?" he teased him.

"I might not be able to read everything from that mysterious mind of yours, but I get enough to know what you've planned." Edward whispered into Harry's ear, as he pulled him close relishing in it.

"You just think you do," Harry laughed in devious delight, he loved that Edward couldn't read his mind. "I kinda hope that it doesn't end when I'm a vampire…you know?" he loved that he was special, different in his own strange way he'd never been different before, well unless you counted the opinion of the Potters and the fact he was a 'squib'. They couldn't have picked a more degrading name, oh wait, they had, and they called normal people Muggles he'd say that was worse.

"We will both find out soon," Edward replied, anxiety mixing in with excitement. He wanted to show Harry everything about him, hunting, but he was anxious about the blood, about Harry's strength to fight the bloodlust. He knew how good it was to drink from a human…an animal wasn't fulfilling but afterwards…when the regret kicked in…he never wanted Harry to feel that, not ever. He'd helped his family deal with the blood lust, but he hadn't done it alone - and if they went back to America - he would be quite literally doing it alone in a different country without help or backup. If anything happened then it would truly be his fault, and that didn't sit well with him. Harry wanted to stay here, and so he would, with some luck on their side Carlisle would give in to Esme just as he couldn't say no to Harry - so he wouldn't have to do this himself.

"Aye, we will," Harry agreed, standing up he rummaged in the bag and brought up one of the DVD's Emmett had gotten him. He freely admitted his collection had been forgotten for the past few months, nobody could blame him after what had been happening and all the emotions he'd been going through. Needless to say he hadn't been buying much.

"Were you truly okay with your siblings being there?" Edward enquired; he didn't want Harry looking back with any sort of anger, especially not on such a special day for both of them. When he got sick he'd assumed he'd never marry, never have a partner, although he would have had to marry a woman, he didn't think he'd have told his parents. Never have a family of his own, when his mother got worse to the point of dying he lost the fight himself and would have welcomed death. Then he was saved, shown what true family was and after a long time waiting found his mate and more importantly married him.

"Aye," Harry nodded, placing the disk in the drawer before closing it and making his way over to Edward and leaning against him. His anger wasn't at them, his anger was at Lily and James, for what they'd done to him but now he couldn't care less he just wanted to be left alone to live his life. "We're never gonna be the kinda brothers and sister we coulda been but it cannie hurt ti see em now and again kin it?"

"No, it can't and since they know you won't have to cut off any contact when they realize you never change." Edward replied, absently pressing play on the machine. He did wonder at cautioning Harry against getting too close since one day they would die, but surely Harry already knew this? Every human he had come into contact with would die at some point or another. It didn't affect them since they never got close to humans, Harry was obviously the first one the family had ever let close. One that had remained human longer than a few hours at any rate, since Rosalie and Emmett had been changed by Carlisle. Hell Rosalie had carried big burly Emmett for hours to get him to Carlisle to change him. Not that impressive since vampires were incredibly strong, but if a human observed it they would surely think they were seeing things; no way could dainty Rosalie carry such a big bulky man.

"Has that ever hud ti happen? Ya know, cutting off contact with people ye like?" Harry queried curiously. He knew a lot about his family, and he was officially family now, but there was also a lot he didn't know, they'd been alive for such a long time after all.

"To me? No, I suppose you could say it's happened to Carlisle, after he left the Volturi and before he turned myself and Esme, he wandered alone, going from one small town to the other, staying only a few years before moving on never once willing to risk exposure. He met Esme when she was just a child and felt drawn to her even then, but it was a paternal sort of attachment," he didn't want Harry to get the wrong idea after all. "Then he found her again, and changed her, but after he made his own family he didn't need companionship." he knew what it was like to be lonely, when he'd gone off on his own, become addicted to human blood he'd been alone then for ten whole years before returning for repentance and forgiveness. Of course, Carlisle being Carlisle had been all too happy to help him change his ways and forgive him for leaving.

Harry was only half paying attention to the movie, most of his thoughts and listening was on this topic of conversation they were having. "It's almost like they were meant ti be, like fate or destiny, ante it?" he hadn't really believed in all that stuff, but what were the chances of everyone in the entire world that Esme and Carlisle meet not only once but twice decades apart? Especially for a vampire who didn't stay in the same area any more than a few years at a time. What were the chances of him and Edward meeting? Especially considering that just a year previously he'd lived all the way around the other side of the world?

"Yes," Edward replied in agreement, "It is."

"Do you believe in all that? That we're you know, destined tae meet?" Harry asked turning to face him.

"We are destined mates; I believe there is one out there for every vampire, whether they have to wait a few years or decades maybe even centuries for them to be born. To believe that… I believe that they're meant to meet, somehow and someday." Edward confessed, scratching at his head sheepishly aware of how he probably sounded.

Harry moved to straddle Edward's legs, staring straight into those gorgeous eyes, they were gold since he'd fed recently, but normally they were darker, almost amber in colour. "Couple o' months ago I would huv said that was sappy," Harry confessed grinning wryly, as Edward's arms slid around him, holding him close as if he was scared Harry would disappear from sight. "I must be goin' sappy ma self but me comin' here of all places? And it wasn't even ma choice…too big to be a coincidence fur me."

"You're missing the movie," Edward told him, but there was a hint of challenging or taunting in his voice.

"I'll have forever to watch it," Harry said in return, lowering his face inches from Edward's. His green eyes flickering up towards gold, wanting to make sure that it was alright, but he was pretty sure it was fine, he had fed recently after all and shouldn't be having any more difficulty than usual.

Edward didn't wait; he claimed his husband's lips in a fierce fiery kiss, if Harry thought this was good, well he was in for a surprise after he was turned. Once Harry was a vampire he wouldn't have to hold back, in fact Harry would be the one that would have to, and Harry would be stronger than him for a while, until he gained control of himself and his newly found strength. The thought of what was awaiting him in just two short weeks excited him further than those warm lips currently attached to his own.

"What di ya say we christen the bed?" Harry asked, his breath puffing out against Edward's ear, green eyes gleaming wickedly. Hopefully without breaking it, they did have to stay here for a fortnight and he didn't want to be sleeping on the couch for the duration.

"I couldn't agree more," Edward replied standing up with Harry safely ensconced in his arms. Now Harry didn't mind this way at all, he merely wrapped his arms and legs around Edward to stop the feeling that he was falling, not that it would happen. Harry laughed as Edward used his speed to get them up the stairs quicker than he could blink. "Way ti go superman."

Edward laughed in amusement, shaking his head at Harry's antics, especially the image planted in his mind, him dressed up as superman changing in a phone booth, Harry had one hell of an imagination and it never failed to make him laugh. Dumping him on the bed, Harry immediately began to strip of the casual clothes he'd put on after the wedding, it had been too cold to keep a kilt on after all. Edward immediately began to do the same, by the time Harry had yanked his top over his head Edward was crawling over his body, chilling it with how cool he was.

"That's no fair, you huv an unfair advantage," Harry protested, the last part muffled as Edward reclaimed his lips again.

Then they both froze as Edward's phone pinged.

"Oh come on!" Harry grunted in frustration, talk about being phone blocked.

"It's Alice," Edward informed him, it was the tone he used for her, everyone in his family had a different one, reluctantly pulling away and grabbing his trousers, it must be important if she was getting in touch especially given what they were doing - and she probably knew it too.

"I'm going to kill her," Harry said resolutely, sitting up cautiously. He too like Edward realized it must be important for her to be getting in touch. "Just as soon as I'm strong enough!" he added.

"James Potter is back in the UK and he's looking for you, he will find you," Edward told him in frustration as he read the text message from Alice. 'Potter's back here, he's looking for Harry and he will find him, no matter where you both go, he's using magic. Sorry and Harry won't kill me he loves me too much! ;)' Edward rolled his eyes again.

Harry moved around to see the message as well, "Seers," Harry sighed wryly as he read the last part, his lips twitched despite the situation. "Well there goes my mood," he had deflated quite rapidly when the topic of James Potter was brought up.

"If he's using magic…do you think Severus has a way of concealing you from him?" Edward muttered thoughtfully.

"I huv nae idea," Harry said in contemplation, putting his clothes back on all the while appreciating Edward's sculptured form, he was absolutely breathtaking. "Text him and find out around five o'clock in the morning, that will make it a decent time over there. Although there's a possibility that bi the time it gets here he will have already found mi. I don't get how he can find me here but he couldnie over there."

"Too far away maybe?" Edward suggested, he was just in the dark as Harry he wasn't used to magic, and the fact he couldn't get in touch with the one person he knew who would irritated him something foul. "We'll know tomorrow."

"Do you think I should just talk to him? Tell him to fuck off and leave mi alone?" Harry questioned, pouting slightly when Edward began to redress, damn Alice, damn James bloody Potter, damn everyone and everything he could have been having the time of his life right this second - literally! "He's obviously not going to give in, and I don't want to waste my last fortnight as a human worrying about him and when he's going to turn up, I want sex, food and sleep in that order."

"If that's what you want to do then I'll be right there with you," Edward told him, "And probably the others, Carlisle had to stop them going after Potter the last time so having them all in the same room isn't a good idea."

"Or is, I widnie miss him," Harry replied immediately, it was probably the remnants of the drink talking there, although he wasn't drunk anymore, more like mildly buzzed now.

Edward just gave him a droll look, they couldn't afford to bring the attention of the magical world down n them. "Why don't you get some sleep? I'll let you know when I'm about to call him," Edward suggested changing the subject.

"Nah, I'm no tired," Harry told him shaking his head, which was surprising since they'd been up since before dawn. "In fact I'm just hungry now,"

"Fridge and freezer is fully stocked, with foods I'm sure you're more than familiar with." Edward told him standing up, texting away on his phone worried and trying to hide it - he failed spectacularly, Harry knew him well enough without needing any emotions to be splayed across his face.

"Well might as well not ruin the night completely," Harry said, oh how he hated James Potter with every iota of his being, he was also a little scared of what he was capable off as well if he was honest. He was finally moving on with his life and he had to ruin it for him? He didn't understand James had sent him away to the other side of the world to get him away…why did he suddenly need to see him? He was tired, tired of being scared, tired of hating. "You coming?" Harry asked only to be talking to thin air, turning around he smirked when he saw Edward waiting at the stairs a similar look on his face.

At least he'd distracted him for a short while.
